The tour is very interesting and our guide explained every detail of the tea process really well. I recommend going before 12pm to see all the production live. At the end there is a tea tasting.

I've drank tea for 50 years, now I know what I have been drinking for all that time.

Fascinating, honest, educational, traditional, enlightening. I've drank tea for 50 years, now I know what I have been drinking for all that time and I will drink it with a greater understanding and appreciation. I booked via Viator which I'd do again, although people did rock up and pay. Space is limited although there a tour starting evey 30 mins or so. We had to wait 20 mins, but not a problem as the views are amazing and the shop is an education in itself. You see the whole process of tea making. Much if the equipment is 70 years old but there's some modern machines too, like the machines that sorts the leaves by colour. Great guide showed us arround. Ended with tea tasting. There's no pressure to buy and the shop could be far more commercial (no tea towels for sale - the only disappointment!). The factory is a 10-15 ride from Ella so best get the driver to stay, it's normal and they expect to. From leaving our hotel to returning took about 2 hours. I thoroughly recommend it.

A fascinating insight into the tea making process

    Jonathan_W, Mar 2025
We did this tour immediately after the plantation tour and the two complement one another well, both offering different insights into the two sides of the tea production journey. Seeing how labour intensive each step of the process is definitely makes me appreciate my morning cuppa much more. A really interesting and well organised visit and thoroughly recommended.

    Immersive and informative factory tour

    Chris_C, Jan 2025
Fantastic tea factory tour! Surprisingly informative and up close experience. Siva was our guide and enthusiastically explained tea science and chemistry. Then we toured the factory. I was pleasantly surprised they let us walk the factory floor and explore the machines and examine the tea at each stage. This tour has a lot of hazards, so you need to be careful of unprotected factory equipment, heavy machinery, hot surfaces, and hot rooms. The tour finishes with tea tasting and an explanation of the marketing terms to understand what type of tea you are drinking.

It would have been nice to get the tea plantation tour and the factory tour in one. We only did the plantation tour and it felt like only half the story. It also felt very rehearsed and angled at getting tips. The experience felt a bit disjointed - the guide you are introduced to only walks you from the main tea shop to the tea fields where there is another person that gives you a rehearsed speech and then a retired tea picker comes and sticks a mottu on your head and you pick leaves. A missed opportunity to share more about the history and create more of an appreciation for the importance of the tea industry.

    Response from Host, May 2026

Thank you for taking the time to share your detailed feedback. We’re sorry to hear that the experience felt disjointed and not as comprehensive as expected. We appreciate your comments about the plantation and factory tours, as well as your thoughts on the presentation style and depth of information shared. Your suggestion about combining the plantation and factory experience and offering more historical and industry insight is very valuable. We will certainly take this into consideration as we continue to improve the overall visitor experience. We’re grateful for your visit and hope to have the opportunity to provide a more complete and enriching experience in the future

    Nothing special, not worth it.

    epetrou, Apr 2023
The tour guide is shown in the picture and is not a good representation of this factory that has so much history. The lecture room and pictures provided were worn and did not really provide a good picture. On the other hand, the ladies working in the shop were very nice, well spoken and presented. It would be a positive step forward if they would let them do the job instead. The tea in the tasting was watered and without much flavour. I am a big tea fan so it was a disappointment.

    Response from Host, May 2026

Thank you for taking the time to share your honest feedback. We’re sorry to hear that your experience did not meet your expectations, especially as a tea enthusiast. Your comments regarding the presentation, tour experience, and tea tasting are truly valuable and will be carefully reviewed with our team as we continuously work to improve. We do appreciate your kind words about our shop staff and are pleased to know their hospitality left a positive impression. Thank you again for visiting us and sharing your thoughts.

It was a fantastic experience, our guide in the factory took serious the tour, explained everything in details, we could ask whatever. We got the recommendation from lonely planet, I would suggest you to check this factory, best experience in Ella regarding tea
