We had such a wonderful experience during this cooking class in Sri Lanka. It took place in a local family’s home, which made it feel very authentic and special. The mother and daughter who hosted us were incredibly warm and welcoming, and they gave us a real glimpse into their daily life, kitchen, and the true spirit of Sri Lanka.
The dishes we prepared were absolutely delicious, and what we loved most is that everyone got the chance to actively participate in the cooking. It wasn’t just watching – we were involved in every step, which made it both fun and educational.
Overall, this experience went far beyond just learning recipes; it was about connection, culture, and hospitality. I would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Sri Lanka who wants an authentic and memorable activit

Great fun and informative cookery lesson. Irosha and her mum Kamila are so lovely and patient. The open kitchen is wonderful.

We absolutely loved this experience. The setting was lovely, everything clean and tidy although cooking outside. Instructions very clear and everyone had a chance to try things. Mother and daughter an excellent team and we've already made the recipes we were sent back at home. Would highly recommend

Amazingly fun experience tonight at Mama’s Cooking Class Ella. It was just two couples and the local chefs Irosha and mom Kama. Intimate, hands on and delicious. Highly recommended!

This is a must-do experience, Irosha and her mother was very accomodation and nice! We learned 4 different curries and coconut sambol and this was the best Sri Lanka food we have tried in our 4 weeks here! The whole set in beautiful surroundings. 10/10 ❤️

This is an amazing experience! The mother-daughter duo are so sweet and made the entire cooking time a delight. The lodge is a short walk from the main street, the curries are tasty and worthy of repeating at home. Do yourself a favor and book this class- but make sure to have a small breakfast beforehand

We absolutely loved this cooking class. It was personal, unique, and we made the most delicious curries. I can’t wait to make them when we get home!!
We opted for the vegetarian selection, which included rice, coconut sambol, potato curry, mango curry, cabbage curry, dhal and pappadums. Unreal - every bite. 10/10 recommend.

Outstanding class! Totally authentic Sri Lankan cooking experience with traditional stove and clay pots. Clearly explained by Irosha, the daughter, and demonstrated with lots of hands on cooking by her Mum who never stopped smiling and bustled about very efficiently. The kitchen was outside but under cover and very clean and hygienic. After preparing rice, Dahl, green banana, cabbage, carrot and coconut salad we had a huge and delicious feat to eat. Really good experience and highly recommended!

I spent a wonderful evening learning how to cook a range of curries from dahl, to jackfruit to green beans to coconut sambol. Not too complicated and hopefully I can use the recipes provided to replicate them back home. Thank you.

An amazing experience! Would highly recommend to anyone. Solo, couples or families would all equally enjoy this class. Some steps up the hill, but well worth it. Taught you the fundamentals to make a variety of Sri Lankan curries, dhal and sides at home. I would highly recommend this experience to anyone. Host spoke perfect English and the mother was so warm and inviting as she demonstrated and encouraged you to jump in. Next time I want to stay at Spice Lodge, just to enjoy more of the mother's fabulous cooking at breakfast!

A friend and I found Moms cooking class online and decided to give it a go! In under an hour, we were taught to cook 5 different curries (mango, bean, eggplant, Dahl and coconut samba), along with learning how to cook popadums! The hosts, a daughter and her mother were very interesting and taught us lots. We used all authentic ingredients (cut and spiced it ourselves), cooked it in clay pots and enjoyed enough food to feed 8 people! We would recommend eating a small breakfast only. We headed to Adam’s peak after wards and you could even catch a train passing at the 9 arches bridge before or after - to make it one big day!

Amazing Experience, an absolute must when visiting Ella.

I would 100% take this class again, from start to finish the experience was amazing.
An authentic experience in a beautiful surrounding.
During my stay in Ella I was interested in learning how to cook some Sri Lankan food.
I found The Spice Lodge on Viator and signed up for Ella Sri Lanka Mom's kitchen cooking class.
When you first enter you are greeted with warm smiles and beautiful scenery.
The class takes you through cooking various local dishes and the staple ingredients required.
We then moved onto the techniques and the process of making this delicious food.
Once we had prepared and cooked the dishes it was time to eat and the flavours and smells were amazing. I will be trying this when I return home.
Beforehand I was contacted to ask if I had any dietary requirements. They can accommodate normal, vegetarian and vegan and various others. I went for the vegetarian class and it was amazing.
The course lasts abouts 2 hrs and you finish it with an amazing selection of curries. Would definitely do this class again and they also have accommodation that looked amazing so on my return trip I would stay here to. Within walking distance from the main street in Ella
Also a short walk from Little Adams peak so can do it on the way
Can't thank them enough for my experience. So welcoming and friendly.
