I joined Discover Arabia for an afternoon of kayaking in the mangroves as the sun slowly set in late September. I would recommend this trip to anyone considering it - it was a great experience in beautiful surroundings. A special thank you to Peter who made it an extra enjoyable trip and was a great guide - 5*.

Extremely disappointed

They did not contact me before hand to confirm my pick up location. I tried to contact them on Viator contact support and received no answer. They were supposed to pick me up from my hotel for my activity and did not even bother showing up. What a waste of my limited time in Doha. I am extremely disappointed and will be requesting a full refund. Do not do this activity or trust this operator!

A hard night at the mangrove

We were excited as we saw many positive reviews. However, our trip was filled with problems: they started the 4pm (advertised time) at 6pm in complete darkness- at low tide while there was 20 miles an hour sustained winds. The water was so shallow that everyone’s kayak repeatedly became stuck on the sand. The group decided to abort efforts after an hour, stuck in sand. The owner was no where to be found when we returned to base. And to top it all off, the transport van had no gas- requiring us to wait 90 minutes before one of the guides returned with gas. There was no offer to partially refund as the owners were not there and made no attempt to contact us. The positive part of the night was our delightful guide who supported everyone throughout the night.

A gem that needs better management

A great experience that would not have happened without the courtesy and hard work of our host Peter. He made us feel welcomed and didn't spare any efforts in the trip despite being the only person manning the camp and the group tours. However, the camp needs to be renovated with more people to maintain it, the off road route is not suitable for all cars which is not clarified in the trip details. Also, we booked a trip at 6:00 am but the night before the trip I sent a message to confirm the site and I got a response that 6:00 am ia low tide you better come at 7:30. How would I know that change if I didn't send the message, communication with the trip agent needs to be proactive and timely.

the driver came to pick me up before the agreed time, drove me to the place for canoeing with a nice, pleasant ride. I was picked up by Peter, a wonderful young man and guide. Since I came for the first time, I got all the equipment and everything was explained to me. Peter is he was with me in the canoe the whole time teaching me about the mangroves and I had a great time.

Peter was knowledgeable and taught us about the types of mangroves and some of the wildlife in the area. Going at sunset was pretty, but visibility was very limited in the second part of the excursion. Make sure you go with someone you work well with as you are in a double kayak. It was nice to have changing areas. We really enjoyed our experience overall.

I booked a kayak at 6:00am and went there so I called and then they told me that there will be no kayak at this time and that I have to come afternoon. I said I can’t come this time. I booked at 6:00am why did u canceled it. They didn’t even call me and tell me that it will be cancelled till I called. When I called back to tell them to give me my money back they hung up the line on my face 2 times. When I called and got upset they gave me a number to contact. I called that number and it was out of service so it shows call failed. I emailed but no one replied, I did the survey and no one did anything. It was my first and last time to book from here. I will also tell my family and friends about it because it shows how careless you are. I just want my money back because I’m not the one who cancelled my timing.

Disappointment

I was very disappointed!! The guide hardly could speak English. We arrived a bit early and instead of telling us to wait for the water he took us to the open water. We paddled for more than an hour in a big wind and could not get even close to the mangrove trees. When finally arrived back completely tired, wet, and cold the tide had arrived. He was unprofessional, he even said that the water is low because the wind is too big, but the tide has nothing to do with the wind. It could have been such a nice day!!

Fun activity but don’t expect to much

The transfer was very expensive it that 250 riyal. De driver almost made a accident by driving to fast en he was watching video’s on his phone. Switching lane without signal. We almost got hit by a car. So for us the transfer was 0 points. When we came there we started the activity is was a nice experience. The water is beautiful but that’s kinda it. I couldn’t enjoy it that much because i was worried about going back with the transfer.

Excellent trip into the mangroves!!! Our guide Joseph was very knowledgeable. He is also very patient and polite! We got to see the many creatures that inhabit the area and had a wonderful view of the sunset! Tips for people going ; make sure you wear long sleeves and pants (aquatic wear) and bring mosquito repellent for the bugs in the evening.
