This was along but great day out. We we're staying in Darwin after our tour of the Red Centre, so decided on a day trip to Kakadu. Our tour guide, Libby arrived at our hotel to pick us up in a full sized bus even though there were only 15 of us. It was a 13.5 hr day but the bus was comfortable and Libby made sure that we had regular toilet/ food stops all day. We really enjoyed our day and especially the river boat cruise. Libby was bright and cheery all day and only too happy to help with anything. Would definitely recommend this day trip even though it's a big day.

Disgusted with Viator

Jonathan_S, Apr 2025
Viator sent me the wrong pick up information and refused to refund even though we wasted the day waiting for the tour, they should be ashamed of their poor service.

Response from Host, Apr 2025

Hi Jonathon, Whilst we understand and acknowledge your frustration here, as per our policies and procedures, an email detailing all pick up information was sent prior to the tour giving instruction on departure times and locations. We always try our best to wait as long as we can for guests, but we also have to ensure the tour runs to the timings provided and on this occasion we had waited too long and had to leave. We invite you to contact our specialist team if you require further information or wish to discuss this further and we hope we can welcome you on board AAT Kings in future.

Well organised, informative but pick your season!

Sara_A, Mar 2025
We travelled from Darwin city at the end of March. The journey was an eight hour round trip including stops, which was a bit punishing but the lunch was good. Our driver/guide (Prem) was very helpful and informative, but a near constant three hour commentary on the outward journey was a bit too much. Sometimes less is more. You definitely need to check what time of year you go. We thought that in March it was the end of summer in Australia, which it is, but it is also the wet season in the Northern Territory. That means the crocodiles are far less visible at this time of year. There are thousands of crocodiles in the park, but on our trip but we only saw one!

Response from Host, Apr 2025

Hi Sara, Thanks for your feedback! We're glad you enjoyed the lunch and found Prem helpful. We hear you on the commentary—it’s definitely something we’ll keep in mind for future trips. Also, you’re right about the wet season affecting wildlife sightings. It can be a bit unpredictable, but we’re glad you still had a chance to experience the park. Thanks again for sharing your thoughts, and we hope the rest of your trip was great! Best Regards, Sonia AAT Kings Team.

A long day 5.5am to 8.30pm

Anna_A, Oct 2024
I don’t want to be negative and discourage ppl from doing Kakadu from Darwin as a day trip, but it’s very long day. As someone else said little add ons, drop off workers pick up workers and ppl that do flights are picked up from airport all adds up in time. I Personally think it’s best put over 2-3 days. It was 41* that day so maybe I didn’t appreciate the yellow water cruise as much as I could of. The busy walk to the aboriginal rock art was very enjoyable. The bus driver/guide was very knowledgeable and organised. Lunch was also included and fine.

Awesome

Karen_L, Sep 2024
Absolutely loved this tour and the wild life . Can’t believe I got the most unexpected photo 😮 Was taking a picture of a bird and when I got home was going through photos and can’t believe I captured this 🐊😮 A croc coming out marsh stalking the bird 🦅

Flight over Kakadu. ...

Kieran_B, Sep 2024
Flight over Kakadu. Seeing Crocs in the water. Ancient cave art. Guide Rob very knowledgeable. Lunch was good.

Highly recommend

Karen_M, Aug 2024
Spectacular experience, loads of wildlife to experience in its natural habitat. Evan our tour guide was terrific. He had embedded knowledge about the flora fauna and culture of the area. Highly recommend.

Superb trip seeing all aspects of kakadu waking + on boat + flight

Christina_C, Jul 2024
Most excellent trip. First class coach and driver Roman. On time. Super narration throughout trip and all information given. Toilet onboard and cool water to refresh water bottles. Bin for rubbish. The bush walk to see rock art was amazing. Super lunch then fantastic river boat trip to see flora and fauna. Lots of crocodiles to see. To top it off was given opportunity for a 1 hour flight over Kakadu. (paid for flight separately) The most awesome part of the trip for me. Others not flying went to the visitor centre. Good stops for toilet breaks too and a good drive back with a movie about the area. All in all a fantastic trip... Would highly recommend. Superb 👍😊

Fantastic Day Trip

Georjeana_P, Jul 2024
Scenery was amazing and had a great lunch at Cooinda Lodge. Guide was very knowledgeable. Driver drove safely.

A taste of Kakadu

Amanda_G, Jun 2024
It is a long day, but well worth the effort. Kakadu has a lot to offer and our tour guide was lovely and very informative.

Kakadu Trip

Sherry_F, Jun 2024
The whole day was a wonderfull experience. We were looked after all day. The tour guide at Kakadu was fantastic & informative we enjoyed the day

Yellow Waters cruise and flight were highlights

Sharon_B, Jun 2024
Thanks, Roman for a nice day out in Kakadu. We really enjoyed the Yellow Waters cruise spotting crocodiles, bird life, and brumbies - had the feeling of being more “real” than the jumping crocs. We also did the plane ride and would recommend it - amazing views from above of the billabongs and stone country. It was a big group to travel around in on a long day, but people were considerate of others and were on time. Roman was also flexible when a number of us were waiting in line, to ensure we weren’t left behind. All in all, a great day.

Land before time and still worth exploring

John_L, May 2024
Yellow waters cruise is a must do. Absolutely stunning and loads of Crocs and other wildlife. Michael our bus coach and guide was brilliant. Full of cheer and amazing facts about Darwin and Kakadu. A wonderful trip.

Kaka. Do!

Martin_W, May 2024
Great guides. Amazing variety of experiences. Killer scenery. Well worth the money. Yellow River was a particular highlight.

Refreshingly impressive

Christine_B, Apr 2024
Pleasant & informative staff. Safety was a priority. Interactive nature experience. The lillies were spectacular.

Good tour

Eldon_H, Apr 2024
Got to see a park I was unaware of. Driver and assistant were both very good. The day was too long but necessary to see from Darwin.

Very good but...

Christine_M, Mar 2024
Very good but it's an incredibly long day, it's uncomfortably hot and humid on the boat at yellow waters and there were no crocs (end of March). Saw 3 different species of birds and only once or twice so very expensive tour. The Kakadu flight is $260 extra which made it over $1800.00 all up for 3 of us. Lunch was plentiful and very enjoyable. The Kakadu component is however, well worth it. Quite amazing.

Wonderful

Tia_V, Mar 2024
The cruise on the Yellow Waters was stunning especially the Billabongs, so peaceful. Great to finally see these parts of Australia.

Beautiful tour but room for improvement

Isabella_L, Nov 2023
Kakadu is beautiful! I was disappointed to find out at the end part of the tour that 'nourlangie' which is what it had been referred to for the entire tour was not the correct place name as per the local Aboriginal people. It is actually Burrunggui and Anbangbang (even with a sign asking us to please use the correct names). Additionally, a buffet lunch was promised and as a pescetarian (which I specified on booking) I got leafy side salad only which left me quite hungry on the trip back. Would still recommend this tour however if possible to go for two days I would look into Indigenous owned businesses for a more respectful experience. We were rushed through the cultural centre and rushed through the rock art - other tourists were taking photos of the art which had signs stating not to photograph and our tour guide did not police this. Overall it was a great experience but there is probably some room for improvement.

Well organised

Kristoffer_S, Nov 2023
All very well organised. Good stories told by the experienced driver. Very pleasant boat tour. Experienced ranger

It is 14 hours long not 13 hours and a passenger bus from Kakadu to Darwin

DArne_T, Oct 2023
The tour is 14 hours, it stated 13 hours when I did the trip. They offered a flight over Kakadu and if you choose to do the flight, the bus goes to pick up whoever did the flight at another location, they also pick up on the trip staff or people who want to travel from the Kakadu to Darwin. I believe these are the reasons that the bus trip was an hour longer. I scored low for these reasons. Tours need to be transparent on what is happening during the day and how long the tour will be to avoid disappointment.

National Treasure

Peter_G, Sep 2023
Tour guide Libby was an excellent guide, host and driver ensuring all her passengers were comfortable throughout the journey. We were reminded at every stop to top up water bottles to keep hydrated. Hat, bush repellent and good walking shoes is essential. It is a long day for this adventure however very worthwhile. All should visit Kakadu to appreciate this amazing country and understand what we need to do better to preserve this National Treasure. Peter

Great but very full day out

harrymoses, Sep 2023
Great day out though it is very long. There are a few ways to book this trip and the finer details vary depending on who you choose to book through. Viator indicates that you need to pay for a Parks Entry Pass and also pay for your own lunch - neither of these are correct - both are included. If you get the opportunity and can afford it then take the scenic flight over Kakadu from Cooinda to Jabiru. Have fun and enjoy!

Amazing Kakadu

BrianPeter_A, Sep 2023
Long bus trip but worth it. Our driver/guide Mark made the travelling enjoyable by providing information/facts, chatting, telling jokes and providing a movie, Australia, on the return trip. The day ran to time, the rock art beautiful and easily accessible. Lunch excellent in comfortable surroundings. The cruise was great and our guide, Greg, very knowledgeable.
