Island to Goree Island is a must do for Senegal. The Island is small and beautiful but the history is big, and something that makes us reflect. Oumar was an amazing guide, very clear in communicating with us, very accommodating, and he knew everyone along the path, which gave us confidence that we were in good hands. Oumar not only gave us a tour but made us feel closer to Senegal. I would truly recommend this tour to anyone who visits Dakar.
What makes Gorée especially special is its history. Walking through the island and visiting the House of Slaves is an emotional experience that makes you reflect deeply on the history of the transatlantic slave trade and the people who suffered through it. It is a place that should be visited with respect and an open mind.
Oumar was an incredible and knowledgable guide. He is passionate about sharing Senegalese history and he makes you feel welcome. Having a private guide is such a great way to get the most of the experience and to learn more than you would if you went alone or with a large group.

Great tour — very informative and interesting.
Be prepared to wait a while for the outbound ferry, which can be quite crowded. But it is great opportunity to watch the locals.

Oumar was an excellent tour guide! He picked us up at our hotel on time in a comfortable, air-conditioned van. He guided us through the ferry onboarding process and took us around the island. His English is excellent and he answered any questions we had.

The tour is sobering and emotional to see how badly one group of humans can treat their fellow man.
You have to take this tour
From the moment we were picked up at our hotel, we were learning about the Dakar of yesterday and today. We were met at the ferry by our guide who couldn't have been more knowledgeable about Goree Island (born and raised). He walked us around the island all day in just the right way to avoid it feeling like another tourist stop. They made it incredibly personal and even more poignant than it would typically be.
