Itinerary
Meet your guide at your central Chongqing hotel at about 8:30am, and hop inside your comfortable, climate-controlled minivan.
Then, make the approximate 30-minute journey to Chongqing Zoo, the biggest panda conservation center in southwest China. Although the zoo houses some 230 species and more than 4,000 animals, the main magnets are the rare giant pandas at its panda breeding facility.
Walk through the zoo with your guide, and stop to view the Panda House, the 5-acre (2-hectare) reserve of bamboo groves and caves designed to replicate these endangered animals' natural habitat. Watch the pandas from a close distance here, and if it’s the right time of year, perhaps see some baby pandas, too.
Next, make the 20-minute drive to Eling Park, an exquisite park replete with water features, pavilions, and weeping willow trees straight from a classical Chinese landscape. Admire the lotus ponds, bamboo groves, and arched bridges, and take in the bird’s-eye views from the hillside over Chongqing and the River Yangtze.
Having explored here, continue to Ciqikou Old Town, a hillside village dating from the Ming and Qing dynasty eras, situated on the western outskirts of Chongqing. Sometimes dubbed the 'Porcelain Port', this charming village once supplied large amounts of porcelain, and consists of restored bamboo-and-timber houses bedecked in Chinese lanterns, as well as ceramics, crafts, and tea shops.
After lunch at a local restaurant, make your last stop at Chongqing’s Three Gorges Museum. This impressive modern museum opened in 2005, and showcases Chinese art and artifacts saved from the historical sites submerged by the building of the Three Gorges Dam.
View the highlights of the collections here before finishing your tour with a hotel drop-off in the later afternoon.
