Itinerary
This private Normandy tour from Caen allows you to choose what World War II sites you visit and how long you spend at each one. There are many D-Day sites to visit, and your expert guide offers unique insights into each one, no matter what sites you choose.
The beaches of Normandy – now known as the D-Day beaches – were invaded by more than 16,000 Allied troops on the nights of June 5 and 6, 1944. Soon, the beaches along the coast of Normandy saw heavy fighting between Allied forces and the Germans. These brutal battles helped lead to the eventual end of the war.
During this private Normandy tour, choose from a number of potential sites to create your own itinerary.
See the most famous landing beaches, such as Omaha Beach – which saw some of the deadliest fighting – or Utah Beach, the first the Allies secured. Pay your respects at the American Cemetery near Omaha Beach, where more than 9,300 soldiers are buried, or the Airborne Museum of Saint-Mere-Eglise.
See Sword Beach, where British and Free French soldiers made their advances, moving from there to capture Pegasus Bridge. Pay your respects at the Commonwealth Military Cemeteries, tour the Merville Battery Museum, or visit the Hillman Bunker Complex near the town of Colleville-Montgomery.
Head for Juno Beach, where the Canadian forces invaded, to see the Juno Beach Center and the Canadian Cemetery near Reviers and Veny-sur-Mer. Visit Ardenne Abbey, a 12th-century abbey where 11 Canadian prisoners of war were executed.
The itinerary is yours to sculpt, with each option offering wonderful opportunities to put history in context and honor those who fought and died on these beaches in Normandy.

In short, our tour through Normandy was excellent. We're a family of three, and as this was our first time in Normandy, we wanted to see as much as possible. We figured a private tour would allow us to accomplish this goal. We truly lucked out with our tour guide, Emmanuel, who was able to accommodate our agenda. At each stop, he was able to provide additional background and details while giving us the time and space to explore on our own. In addition, he was kind, funny, and a great driver!
To highlight how Emmanuel made the trip extra special, my dad had mentioned in passing that he had served in the US Coast Guard. During our stop at the Normandy American Cemetery, Emmanuel made sure to point out the lone Coast Guard member listed in the Garden of the Missing.
We definitely recommend this trip (and Emmanuel) for others!

Our guide, Brice, was very knowledgeable about the region and helpful in allowing us to make choices as to what we wanted to see. Additionally, he scheduled things in such a way that we arrived at good times to see things, such as the flag lowering at the American cemetery and low tide at Omaha Beach. If you have specific family you want to learn more about, forward the information ahead of time so your guide can help research and personalize the experience to you.

What an amazing experience! Tour guide was very knowledgeable and patient. He gave us all the time we wanted at destinations. He explained everything in detail at every stop. Highly recommend this experience.

Our knowledgable tour guide (Ellen) was phenomenal!! She picked us up at our hotel in Caen at 9:00 a.m. and dropped us off at 6:00 p.m. Our day long extensive tour of German Cemetery, Utah Beach, Normandy American Cemetery, Omaha Beach, the church that was used as a medic facility with the unexploded shell in the ceiling, the church where Paratrooper John Steel was hanging from the church steeple, and many interesting places in between were all amazing!! We also enjoyed the best lunch at a small restaurant in the village where John Steel was hanging from the church. The cherry on top of our tour was our last stop when Ellen brought us to the top of the cliffs at Omaha Beach where we were able to climb through German trenches, underground bunkers, and underground defense ditches all built by the Germans. It's quite off the beaten path. Most people have no idea it's there. Most tourists likely never get here. Walking the path on the cliff tops and looking down on Omaha Beach was an epic experience! Ellen was incredibly informative, answered all of our questions, and showed us great photos from her notebook of the places we visited as they were during WWII. It was an incredibly moving day, one we dreamed about experiencing for a long time. We learned new aspects of the Normandy Invasion thanks to Ellen. This was a monumental check on our bucket list. We thank Ellen so very much for providing the best possible private guided Normandy experience tailored for exactly what we wanted to see. It's worth every penny to do this private tour. You won't be lost in the crowds, and you will receive personalized attention. We sailed through all the sites we wanted to visit. No waiting. Ellen was very efficient with our time and gave us as much time wherever we wanted to stay and linger. Her tour was perfection! We are honored and humbled to have this opportunity to pay our respects to all those who paid the ultimate price for freedom and to squash evil. We recommend this tour!!! Five stars!!! Brava, Ellen!!! Lauri and Mark from Ohio, USA

A private full day customisable tour of the Normandy beaches and other relevant D-Day sites with an informative and personable guide.
Gwen was incredibly knowledgeable and took us on our own personal tour showing us the places we wanted to visit and some other spots we didn’t know anything about. He has a vast knowledge of not only the landing sites but the Normandy coast history which made for a well rounded and enjoyable experience. Thank you so much Gwen, we can’t wait to come back and tour with you again.

It has been a lifelong dream of mine since I was 12 years old to come to Normandie and visit Omaha and Utah Beaches and the US Cemetery.
Clementine made my dream a reality with a custom tour and insightful facts about out each beach and St. Mere Eglise.
Her knowledge about historical facts was impressive and entertaining. She made the day enjoyable on all aspects. I would highly recommend this tour and Clementine as your guide. We will be back to see more.

This was an incredible experience. Make sure you ask for Matthew to be your guide. We went to Bayeux, the German cemetery, Utah Beach, Ste-Mere-Eglise, Pointe du Hoc, Omaha Beach, the American cemetery. We weren’t rushed through anything. Well worth every dollar we spent.

Our driver, Matthew, was an outstanding guide! Very knowledgeable and full of information. I would highly recommend asking for Matthew if doing this tour.
David_V, Jul 2024

The expert information and knowledge of the D day beaches passed on to us by our guide, Gwen. Visiting those places which a larger less informal group would not be able to do.
Cathy_D, Jun 2024
Our guide Jeremiah was knowledgeable, personable, and polite. He asked what we were most interested in seeing, and tailored our day to include what we most wanted to see. He took the time to fully explain what happened at each site we visited, and fully answered any questions we had. We would recommend this tour to anyone interested in the D-day invasion.

We recently had a private tour of the Normandy beaches with Jeremy as our guide, and it was an unforgettable experience. A local from Normandy, Jeremy provided enriching historical insights and personal stories from his family's World War II experiences. His extensive knowledge of Caen and Normandy history, combined with his passion, truly brought the sites to life.
Jeremy was an excellent driver, navigating the area in a clean, comfortable van. He tailored the tour to our interests, especially engaging our teenage son who is fascinated by World War II history. Jeremy's enthusiasm made the tour enjoyable and educational.
We visited key sites such as Sainte-Mere-Eglise, Utah Beach, Pointe du Hoc, Omaha Beach, the American Cemetery, and the Visitors Center, as well as the 101st Airborne Museum. We also enjoyed a delightful lunch together, adding a personal touch to the day.
Jeremy's ability to adapt the tour to our interests and his genuine passion for history made this a great experience. We highly recommend Jeremy as a tour guide for anyone visiting Normandy.

This trip was fantastic! Our guide, Marie was so knowledgeable and made it all very interesting and enlightening. They were also very helpful when our ship had to change ports and we were scrambling to figure out how we could take the tour that we had already paid for when the time and place wasn’t fitting the schedule. The tour company worked with us and found a solution that worked for everyone.
I highly recommend them for the Normandy beaches tour.

Everything was perfect. In the lead up the office was very flexible and engaged in helping us work out a bespoke itinerary to take in aspects of both the American and British sectors. Emmanuel, our tour guide, was very friendly and hugely knowledgable. Because there were only two of us (my son and I) it was very relaxed and we never felt overwhelmed with information. We could also be flexible on the day and Emmanuel gently suggested a couple of additional things to visit - which we are very glad we did. It was hugely enriching and certainly the best tour I've been on.

Great tour of D day beaches! Our guide was very knowledgeable and made sure our tour covered everything we wanted to see. What was extra special was the little details our guide was able to point out during the tour. Would recommend booking this tour to see the D Day beaches in Normandy.

This Private Tour was excellent, our tour guide/driver Laurianne was so knowledgeable and passionate about it. She did such a good job. We went to all the USA sites and the Cemetery was the highlight of our tour. I really recommend this tour to anyone.

J B our guide made this a wonderful experience. Only so much you can find out from film and print. He really painted a complete picture. Will highly recommend him to others.
RENO_R, Jun 2023
Our guide picked us up at our hotel on time. He spoke to us about what we wanted to see and our plan for the day was made. He was very helpful and knowledgeable as we were moving around. He took us to a few places that he thought we would like and was very helpful in filling in the day with great sites. We spent some time at Utah and Omaha however Juno was our main interest.
Money well spent on this tour.
Charles_H, Apr 2023
We had a great local tour guide who knew the history and the background stories really well. The ride in the coach was very comfortable.
Ken_P, Jan 2023
Our guide was extremely knowledgeable and did a great job of making sure that these weary travelers made the most of our time in the landing region.
James_M, Oct 2022
Celine was an excellent guide, knowing key historic places and had had details and maps/pics to put them in context. We threw her a curve asking for a place for Calvados and she knew a small farm built in 12th century. All we hoped for. Thank you!
Emily_S, Jun 2022
Loved the history. The overlord museum was fantastic! We had a picnic on Utah beach. The American cemetery was beautiful.

Our tour guide was Caroline. She was fantastic! We learned so much throughout the day that we hadn't known prior to the tour. I would definitely recommend this tour. It was well worth the money and time we spent.

The tour was very nice. Saw Utah and Omaha beaches and both the German and American Cemeteries. Our guide, Antoine was superb. Not only told the stories well, but with enthusiasm that brought the history to life. Nice day for the entire family
