Beautiful place to visit! Easy boat ride from Buenos Aires to Colonia. Eat at Bohemia..it is excellent.

Prompt pick-up from hotel, Jesus was friendly and helpful. Took us into the port and helped us get tickets. Is indeed timely to get passport control for Argentina then Uruguay, but convenient, then disembark just pass bags thru customs.
Tour guide “Allie” is friendly, so proud of her city and country, and a wealth of information.
Yes it is a long day, 2 plus hour tour, then time for lunch and on your own tour and shopping. You met Allie again at 3:20 and van ride back to port. Again immigration for both countries, and then just customs in BA.
Worth the money and a delightful day.

This tour was a worry-free way to explore Catalonia from Buenos Aires. We were picked us up from our hotel promptly and taken to the ferry with good directions on how to proceed. Another tour guide met us as we exited the ferry in Uruguay and took us on an informative hour long walking tour. So much history here! We then had about 3 hrs to enjoy the town and explore. We opted for a wine and cheese tasting at a local establishment. Our tour guide then met us to accompany us back to the ferry and again helped us to check in. Back in Buenos Aires, our driver drove us back to our hotel. A great day!

Fantastic experience; from pickup to drop off everyone was professional, friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. Logistics were super smooth with door-to-door transportation, high speed ferry round trip. Our guide, Mayra, was a lovely ambassador for Uruguayan hospitality and history and provided a wonderful walking tour of Colonia with great local recommendations. Highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting BA for a fun day trip!

Not worth the money - $250/person for the 5 min. transfer from hotel to the port + $70 boat fee + 2 hours tour guide - your charge is way too high.

Lovely town. Definitely worth the visit and to explore and get the history of another country. Our guide was great and gave us a comprehensive run down and tour of the town. Then gave us two hours to have lunch and explore. Lots of restaurants and shops to explore. Just be prepared to spend some time in both directions going through customs and immigration. It's about 2 hours on each side, which adds to the day.

This premium day trip to Colonia del Sacramento was absolutely excellent from start to finish and exceeded my expectations.
In Buenos Aires, my guide Jesus was extremely prompt, communicative, and professional. He picked me up right on time and made the ferry process smooth and stress-free. Customs and immigration for the ferry can feel more chaotic than an airport, but Jesus guided me step-by-step through check-in and boarding. He was friendly, knowledgeable, and bilingual (English and Spanish), and he also shared helpful local tips before departure.
Once in Uruguay, Lily was truly a standout. She is an absolute gem. Her English is impeccable, and her historical knowledge rivals that of a professor, enhanced by over 20 years of living experience in Colonia. She is clearly well known and respected by local artisans, residents, and business owners—I even overheard others say she was the best guide, and they were right.
Lily is a fantastic storyteller with a great sense of humor. She gave thoughtful recommendations on where to eat and shop, pointed out where to find the best value, and helped us avoid tourist traps without ever making it feel transactional. Her care and pride in Colonia really showed throughout the day.
Colonia itself is charming and beautiful, especially beyond the main historic sites. Walking the outer areas revealed excellent restaurants, cafés, gelato shops, urban art, and stunning architecture.
A few practical tips: arrive early for the ferry to clear customs and immigration and to get better open seating. Food and drinks are available onboard, so skip the café at the ferry terminal. Traveling light makes the experience even smoother. Also, there are many stray dogs in colonia that according to Lily are taken care of by the locals, they are sweet, if i ever go back i would feed them.
I highly recommend this trip. The ferry ride is calm and scenic, Colonia is lovely, and the experience is elevated by two exceptional guides who truly care about what they do.

The tour was excellent and worry free! They picked us up from our hotel promptly and directed us to the ferry. Our private tour guide met us as we exit the ferry in Uruguay and we had a very informative 2 hour walking tour of Colonia de Sacremento and its history. We then had about 3 hrs to enjoy the town and explore. Our tour guide then met us to accompany us back to the ferry and checkin. Once we arrived in Buenos Aires, our driver drove us back to our hotel. This tour allowed us to visit Uruguay with ease. Definitely recommend this tour!!!

A lovely introduction to Uruguay and the unique town of Colonia! It was very helpful to have a driver pick us up from our hotels and navigate our tickets for the ferry to Uruguay. The ferry was large and comfortable and just took 50 min to get us across. Our guide Alejandra was waiting for us at the port as we disembarked with a sign with our names on it - very easy to find. She spoke excellent English and offered a lot of history and background on the country of Uruguay as well as Colonia, which was super interesting. There was so much I was unaware of! The walking tour was about 90min and then we were on our own for lunch and to wander about the small town for 3.5 hours. There were lots of cute small restaurants and stores, but I think 2.5 hours would have been enough for free time - it was exceptionally hot that day and we spent an hour just sitting in a gelato shop just to cool off. Easy ferry ride back and we were greeted by the same driver from the morning who took us back to our hotels. All in all, definitely worth it if you have extra time to spare in Buenos Aires!

We arrived late (ferry delayed) - tour guide was waiting for us when we walked out of terminal. We then walked a few blocks and she gave us tons of background on the history of Uruguay (we knew nothing, so it was interesting) and we all (four of us) walked through old town. She gave us some great recommendations for lunch during our free time (we went to Bohemia. Fabulous) as well as shopping / sightseeing ideas. I bought some really cute clothes at Tranquera (and you can get VAT back at ferry station before you go through security). Also other good shopping for souvenirs, etc. You can use credit card or USD or Argentine pesos.
The only recommendation I would have would be to tell us at the beginning what the itinerary was (I should have interrupted and asked). I also thought it was kind of pricey for 2+ hour tour, however, we learned so much that I feel like an expert on Uruguay now and that makes it worth it!

If you are looking for a day trip out of Buenos Aires and want to learn about Uruguay, this is a good trip. The best part of it was the guide, Alejandra. She taught us a lot about Colonia and also Uruguayan history and culture. We liked the business class ferry ticket, and the driver Jesus was nice. One thing to mention is that we went in the mid-week on the low season (a Wednesday in June), and several businesses were closed. One of the shop owners told me that some people take off mid- week because they work weekends. You also need Uruguayan currency for the museum; there is a bank in the town. There are public bathrooms near the entrance to the town. Overall, I enjoyed this and was glad I did it, primarily because Alejandra taught us so much and was such a great ambassador for Uruguay.

We were trying to decide between the Colonia or the Montevideo tour, since we only had one day and wanted to maximize our time at the location and not on a ferry boat for hours, we decided to do the Colonia tour and we were very pleased that we did, the tour guide was great explaining the history of Uruguay and Colonia, we walked around for about 2 hours seeing multiple sites, and after that we had 3 hours to eat lunch and explore on our own, we ate lunch at Charco which was fantastic, and then walked around for another 2 hours, this was. great little town, loved all the cobble stone streets and how old the buildings look and the original fort wall, I would highly recommend this tour

Loved Old Town Colonia and really liked our guide Ali (Alejandra). She was very knowledgeable about Uruguay history, poitics, and culture! She also recommended a fabulous restaurant Charco for lunch. We definitely added to the economy of Colomia by purchasing many small handmade items for gifts! The ferry ride over to Colonia and back to Buenos Aires was excellent and the man who drove us to and from the ferry was especially helpful! We will definitely recommend Viator and Colonia!

Our guide in Colonia, Alejandra (Ale), was kind, helpful, knowledgeable, with a strong love for her town. We learned a lot in a short time about Uruguay and had a great time exploring this charming town. After touring with Ale, there is plenty of free time for lunch and further exploration. The historic center of Colonia is small enough to be explored fully during the time you have. The ferry can be busy so recommend upgrading to Business Class for more spacious seating. Transfers were equally good, punctual, and safe.

We had a wonderful on this day trip to Colonia. We really wanted to cross the river and visit Uruguay but were worried about figuring out all of the parts on our own and this tour was the perfect option for us. It is pretty expensive - would be a lot less if you did the trip on your own - but having everything figured out and booked for us and a tour guide to walk us through it all was worth it. The ferry ride across the river was very comfortable and our tour guide was waiting for us. She was lovely and it was fun spending the morning walking around this beautiful old town with her. We learned so much about the history of this town that we never would have learned by ourselves. We had plenty of time to explore and eat on our own before we met up with her again to return to the ferry. Definitely worth the day trip to escape the busy city of Buenos Aires and enjoy some peace and tranquility in the gorgeous old city of Colonia.

Enjoyed this day trip to visit Colonia del Sacramento, Uruguay, from Buenos Aires. Began with transport to ferry terminal, then the ferry ride over, a walking tour of the cobble stoned old town of the city, and the about 3 hours of free time to eat and and explore, before returning back to to ferry and Buenos Aires. Our tour guide was a local who shared much information about her town. A very nice get away day!

Our guide was absolutely lovely! She was knowledgeable and funny and made the experience very personal. The entire tour was a breeze! The hotel pickup and drop off was especially wonderful given the early departure and such a long day of exploring! Highly recommend the entire experience!

The price we paid for our ticket included hotel transfers both ways, ferry ride both ways and an private guide. We really enjoyed the tour of Colonia with our guide. She was sweet and knowledgeable. She explained the history of the place to us well and gave is great recommendations during our free time. Well worth the money and worth the trip!
