Our guide James, was very friendly and knowledgeable and we learnt so much about the history of Winchester. Even though it was raining for the majority of the tour it did not dampen our experience.

Amazing tour of Winchester! Our guide was Sam and he did a great job walking us through Winchester and telling us all about the incredible history of so many ruling groups. Would absolutely do this tour again when visiting Winchester in the future. Do not hesitate and book this tour if you're going to be in Winchester!

Not as described. Tour details state that the tour will be done by Dr. Lillian Gonzales who got her degree in Winchester. The tour guide ended up being a college student--not Dr. Gonzales. An asterick in the description does say that most tours are done by her, but that one of her students may do the tour instead. Very misleading !!! Sam was our guide. He was very monotone, spoke very softly (hard to hear), and not very interesting. This tour does not live up to the many, many other Viator tours we have taken. Super disappointing !

Thanks for your message. We have already spoken with you about this issue and have taken your comments on board. It is advised on the description that in the 4 years we have been running tours the team has grown and Lillian has a team that has been trained by her and who have a background in history and/or teaching. Sam is coursing his Master's degree at the university of Winchester as a historian, and has previously been educated in London. He has delivered plenty of tours before and we have never had a problem, even with larger groups. In general we have never had a complaint about a situation like this as all our other reviews in TripAdvisor and viator suggest. We appreciate you didn't like the tour and for that we are sorry. We all have different tastes and perhaps this was not for you. We wish you the best in your future journeys.

Dr Gonzales really knows her stuff. Historians really have their work cut out in Winchester since so much has been lost. But Dr Gonzales painted a vivid picture. Loved her explanation of the cathedral makeover to a Gothic style by Bishop William of Wykeham

Great information, stories, and very personable tour guide Lillian. Tour lasted about 1.5 hours. If it rains you want to wear water proof shoes to avoid puddle soaking.

I was very fortunate as a huge history fan to be able to get this journey solo with Dr Lillian.
As she has in depth knowledge on so much she is able to provide deep answers to any question I had which I thoroughly enjoyed.
She took as well very good care of myself making sure yo take plenty of stops with the warm weather and made the journey so that if at any point required water or food that there was a point nearby (I did not requirebas already had but appreciate this). I think it was amazing as well how she had made sure with the hesr of the day to try and keep the tour into the shade as much as possible.
I thoroughly enjoyed learning the history from the period from before the Roman settlement all the way to the current date.
Dr Lillian particularly was amazing at bringing the humanity to figureheads and people particularly as such in regard to Jane Austen, William the Conquerer and Henry VIII. I loved how the tour didn't just specify life for the figureheads in the city but for the everyday person as well which is absolutely amazing.
Thank you Dr Lillian for such an amazing tour I really really enjoyed it.

Lilly our guide was very impressive. She has a PHD and probably knows more about the the history and surrounding sites than any other tour guide. My son who has read numerous books about the history of Winchester was quite impressed also. Great time

Lillian was great, very well informed and really knows all the history and beyond of Winchester, adds a very detailed tour with a flare of animation and get's into character when taking you back into history, you really do get a sense of the time frame she is telling you about, she is very passionate about the local area - the team had a great day.
