Itinerary
Begin your walking tour at the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, a monumental early-20th-century building that has witnessed many of the country’s most defining political moments. With a local guide, dive straight into Belgrade’s layered past—from Celtic and Roman foundations through medieval Serbia, Ottoman and Austro-Hungarian rule, and into the modern Serbian state. Across from the parliament, see the Old and New Palaces, once home to rival royal dynasties and today the residences of the Serbian President and City Assembly, as your guide reveals the intrigue surrounding the families who once ruled here.
Continue to Nikola Pasic Square, named after one of the most influential figures in modern Serbian history, before walking on to Terazije Square, a historic gathering place since the 19th century. Pause by the famous Terazije Fountain and hear stories of Belgrade’s grand hotel era, including the legendary Hotel Moskva and the notable figures—from scientists to statesmen—who once passed through its doors.
Next, arrive at Republic Square, the lively heart of the city, framed by the National Theatre and National Museum and dominated by the iconic Prince Mihailo monument. From here, stroll down bustling Knez Mihailova Street, Belgrade’s main pedestrian boulevard and shopping hub, soaking up the city’s energy as historic facades meet modern life.
Your walk continues to St. Michael’s Cathedral, the city’s principal church and final resting place of key figures from Serbian history. Nearby, spot the residence of Princess Ljubica and the city’s oldest tavern, famously named “Question Mark.”
The tour concludes at Kalemegdan Park and the Belgrade Fortress, the city’s most important cultural and historical site, where sweeping views open over the dramatic confluence of the Sava and Danube rivers—an unforgettable setting to end your journey through Belgrade’s past and present.

Fantastic 3+hour walk in Belgrade. Dragor is very informative. We highly recomend this tour, especially if you are only visiting the city for a couple of days

I joined the Red Belgrade Communist Tour on 20 February, and it was one of the most interesting tours I’ve taken. It was very well organized and full of fascinating historical insights.
Our guide, Dragor, was outstanding—extremely knowledgeable, engaging, and passionate about the subject. I especially enjoyed learning about the era of Josip Broz Tito. Dragor explained Tito’s leadership, Yugoslavia’s unique position between East and West, and everyday life during that period in a way that was both informative and easy to understand. The stories and context he shared really brought that time to life.
Walking through Belgrade while hearing about its socialist past gave me a completely different perspective on the city. I highly recommend this tour to anyone interested in history, politics, or the legacy of Yugoslavia.

The guide had a deep knowledge on the point of my interest, which was the history of Belgrade, Servia and the Valcan area as a whole, and was extremely interesting to listen to his explanations. He was also friendly, flexible and very helpful and I enjoyed the tour very much. Thank you!

I lucked out with a small group tour where I was the only attendee. My guide, Dragan, patiently and clearly covered vast swats of history, architecture and politics during the walk. He also made excellent recommendations for additional places to visit, which were fantastic. Strongly recommend him.

We loved our experience exploring old town Belgrade with fantastic local guide Radica who speaks excellent clear English and Spanish (we speak both). It was a hot day and Radica took care to keep us hydrated and stay in the shade as much as possible while she provided us with lots of interesting historical, cultural and general information in an engaging, friendly manner. The three hours went by very fast, we learned a lot and had a wonderful experience, and we highly recommend this easy walking tour and fabulous guide Radica.

I only had a limited amount of time to explore Belgrade and this was a brilliant introduction. Our guide Nebojsa was excellent, combining the best sights of the city with areas of personal significance to him. Do be aware that it's around three hours of almost non-stop walking, but there's no better way to get a real sense of Belgrade and its history.
Isabel_M, Oct 2024
This was fantastic, my tour guide was very knowledgeable, it was great to learn about the history of Belgrade. I really enjoyed this walking tour.
Terry_T, Oct 2024

The tour was cancelled one day before because not enough participant.
It would be better if cancelled at least 48 hours before

A must for any trip to Belgrade!
Nebo is a warm and knowledgeable host, his tour took in the most relevant parts of Belgrade, and with his wealth of in depth knowledge, he spoke in great detail as the tour progressed. He an answered questions, he seemed to know it all, and gave tips for us all to get the most from Belgrade for after the walk.
Nebo is a student so I recommend a generous tip at the end, he dies this in his spare time to promote the city and Serbia, great guy.

Although it was a wet and stormy day, I enjoyed my tour of historic Belgrade. The tour guide was vastly knowledgeable and personable, and it ended up being a one-on-one tour so I had all my questions answered. She even provided me with a much-needed umbrella and I never felt like she wanted to rush through the sites. I really appreciated her thoughtfulness and commitment.

The canceled this tour on me and booked me on the Red communism tour. That tour was great. Fantastic guide.
Milka_V, May 2024
Excellent tour. Marko was knowledgeable, polite, engaging and a pleasure to speak with. My family of 5 was on the tour. Although we are Canadians of Serbian descent, we learned much from Marko about our history and culture. Would highly recommend this tour and Marko!
Amiram_G, May 2024
My wife and myself enjoyed tremendously our Belgrade tour with Marko. He was knowledgeable, very friendly, fluent in English. He gave us a through description for the history of Belgrade, told us nice stories about the city and the history of Serbia, and at the end, we had the feeling that this tour should be the starting point for the introduction of Belgrade to tourists who come for the first time. Thank you Marko.

This tour was so interesting and we gained a real insight to Belgrade and beyond. Neboja was so knowledgable and personalised the tour to the participants. He had a great sense of humour and made it a special experience for us. I would recommend this tour as it gives a fantastic overview of the city in such a short time.
Timothy_K, Apr 2024
Nebojša was an excellent guide. He mixed great knowledge of the city and its past with a nuanced view of Yugoslavian history and the challenges that still face the country and its neighbors. I learned a lot and enjoyed walking and talking with him.
