The experience was really good especial because of the great job did it for Ley, the tour Guide, she was very professional and kind.
I learned more and enjoyed the Spanish couple on the trip more than about Azerbaijan. The guide, Ilkin, lacked energy, seemed bored, and I learned very little. With the exception of the candy cane mountain, Eagle Top viewpoint, and some of food during lunch, everything else was not worth it. The "forest" was just the worst part. It was just trees by a restaurant. The guide told us there was a hike. There is no hike. Spent too much time on things that were not explained. I won't recommend this.
The trip itself and our guide, Leyla, were top-notch. I would have gladly given 5 stars, but we had originally booked a tour in Russian; the day before the excursion, we were told it would be in English, and no solution to the situation was offered.
This is a full day experience that takes you up into the mountains, to a living remote mountain village. I learned about this trip from another traveller and specifically travelled to Baku to join the day tour. I was not disappointed . If you enjoy being in the mountains then this is the trip for you . The road trip through the mountains is spectacular and the village is like a step back in time . There is nothing touristy about it!
Excellent full day tour, a drive to the north of Azerbaijan close to the Russian border. A way to explore the views while enjoying local food
This trip exceeded our expectations - the candy mountain, Quba and Khinaliq were absolutely beautiful. The lunch at the family house at Khinaliq was good, and the explanations about the local ethnic group was very interesting. The walk along the village, the mosque, the friendly people and the mesmerizing mountains view was superb.
Leyla was a good guise, nice comprehensive explanations was conducted with a very good English and with a permanent smile on her face. She knew the best location for photos and sight seeing. The trip overall was very organized.
Note, that like all trips of this kind, you don't get to walk a lot. Because of the big distances between locations you spend our time mostly on the bus. And yet, we enjoyed the tour so much.

This was a great tour but be prepared for a very long day, it was over 12 hours and I would have given it a five star rating, but the tour leader dropped it down to a four star when she played loud techno music for the last hour on the way back to Baku. It was so loud I had to plug my ears, and I am not hard of hearing. Somebody that’s in the hospitality industry should have a little more common sense when you have 16 people in a van and playing loud extra loud music I like music, but not this loud in that techno stuff was too much base.
Our tour with Leyla was really enjoyable and we learned so much!
The tour was set at a good pace, and included some great locations and we were always well informed of each stop.

I would have reviewed this trip well anyway purely because of the spectacular scenery we got to see on the way and in Khinaliq itself. It was so great being able to have the Caucasus mountains accessible from Baku because of a tour like this. Hats off to the drivers willing to drive for near on 12hours to allow tourists to do this. However, this tour was made even more special because of my guide Layla. She was approachable, friendly and had a great energy about her. She was quick to learn names and made an effort to get to know us which was really appreciate for a mere day tour. She is also an excellent photographer. I’m a solo traveller and hate being in front of the camera. Layla never forced me to have photos of myself but at the same time put me at ease of having them as she was always on hand to take them and gave suggestions on where to sit or stand.
I also appreciated meeting Inset in Khinaliq. He runs a guesthouse in the village, his English is excellent and he shared with me his work (as a fellow historian). I was grateful for his kindness and hospitality as his uncle made me a coffee at his house whilst we chatted. All of this with no expectation of something in return which is more than I can say for the young boys from the house we had lunch at who were keen to ‘show us around the village’ and then started demanding money.. be mindful of this. Leyla did speak to them upon finding this out from the other guests upon departure. It’s funny, we probably would have tipped them. But their demands and lack of manners led to me at least to be dismissive of them and I refused to engage with them. A pity as their mother showed great hospitality at lunch - the food was a nice touch and allowed us to learn about their culture too.
Few tips: bring a good litre of water, sturdy shoes for the village, a layer and some suncream as the UV is strong in the mountains.
A really entertaining trip with lots of things to see and with excellent transportation. A great day
Long and bumpy drives, but well worth it. Our guide Musa was awesome, very friendly, engaging, brought everybody together. Highly suggest to everybody who is visiting Baku.
Leyla was a great guide, and photographer. She took the time to take amazing photographs of each traveler for all the beautiful viewpoints we stopped at. She was so kind. This is a very beautiful excursion for nature and cultural lovers.
Candy Cane - fun for photos. glad I saw it. Guba - nice place to see. nothing particular stands out but enjoyed the baklava tasting. Caucuses/Khinaliq/lunch - excellent experience. such beutiful sights and enjoyed the time in the village (some people are a bit aggressive asking for tips). comfortable van with friendly host. shared lots of information about the country and places we were visiting
It is money very well spent. The day was interesting full of great experiences- the guide Mamed gave us lots of facts about Azerbaijan and was ready to fulfil our tiniest wishes, the driver was extremely skillful on the mountain roads and made our journey an adventure. The meal in the mountain village was rich and plentiful. So, all in all, 10/10 and a bow! 🌞

I really enjoyed this tour. Lila was a fantastic tour guide and we had a lot of fun. It’s quite a long day but very enjoyable. It’s a shame we couldn’t see the pink lake but I understand it’s only pink at certain times of the year. It was very cold in Khinaliq village when I was there so bear that in mind. We had a lovely lunch up in the mountains with amazing views. Thank you Lila for making it so special. I will remember it always.
This was a very nice tour. Musa the guide was very good and made great photos. I enjoyed being out in nature and seeing diverse landscapes. Candy cane reminded me of rainbow mountain in Peru but not as spellbinding. Khinalig village was very beautiful and we enjoyed having lunch with a local family. We had amazing photo stops and it was beautiful.
As a solo female traveller I typically plan out my own adventures and outings, but this type of trip required some local guidance. This ended up being a well-organized bus tour with several stops at beautifully scenic points deep into the mountains of the unique countryside of Azerbaijan.
Our tour guide was highly personable and provided all kinds of useful facts about national culture, language, history. He also very kindly assisted many fellow travellers several times with photography/videography.
Booking was easy on the Viator platform; however, the dates could potentially change with some notice (I was asked to move my booking to a day later than I had originally confirmed, which forced me to have to rearrange my schedule) - but definitely book it if you have a flexible itinerary! The mountain views are quite stunning, especially into the second half of the trip.
Highly recommend taking anti-nauseants if prone to motion sickness (for the hours driving on rough, winding roads), packing a sweater or jacket for the frigid temperatures at some of the higher-altitude stops (even in summer!) and wearing hiking shoes, particularly if you intend to head up a ways on the Candy Cane slopes for better views/photos, and for the unavoidable ~15-20 min trek up stony paths for the village lunch. All in all, a lovely and memorable day to discover the breathtaking beauty of Azerbaijani nature!
Transport was rather cramped with 3 traveling backwards although pickup from hotel included it never happened and meeting point very difficult to locate how ever guide collected me after a stressful time Huseyn our guide was very helpful kind friendly and knowledgeable 7 on the tour and a long 13 hour day but worth it
Fantastic tour to escape Bali and to see the forests and mountain scapes of Azerbaijan. Our guide, Leyla, was a fantastic communicator and ensured everything ran smoothly from communicating pickup time to helping everyone to get the perfect photos. During our lunch stay in Khinalug, Leyla explained a lot of the artifacts in the house and about the language and traditions of the Kettid villagers.
We were lucky to have Elmar as our driver, who navigated both the winding mountain roads and the highway with expert speed.
The only complaints were that the seats in the back of the bus were quite affected by the fast pace and the bumpy roads. It was a workout to hold on. Additionally, the rest stop in Quba was quite a tourist trap, with really high prices. Unfortunately, it was raining during our stop, or maybe you could wander to find a more local offering.
The best tour you’ll have in Baku is this. Just ask for Layla as the tour guide.

Nice tour well worth doing as a day trip out from Baku to get to see something a bit different from the city
The tour guide was amazing. Candy cane and The village is very beautiful. However, I find that the stop at the forest is not necessary as there is nothing to see.
This was a great tour with lots to see. We had a lovely tour guide named Leyla who was incredibly knowledgeable and friendly.
