The tour is very interesting but unfortunately the weather wasn't good, a heavy snow started when we got Khinalug, the way to go up was completely white but with care the cars got the village, but it was very difficult on the way back, both cars had serious problems to driving through the snowed road and they both slippered on the road, one of them had no chains and the other one even with chains was difficult to manage. The drivers asked to walked down so many meters, about 20 or 30minuts trought the snow, we were really afraid as was getting dark and the way down were 2h driving on that terrible road. The forecast was that snow was coming theses days, it was not unexpected, no plan b at all to get down, the tour should be cancel on these conditions. Leyla, our guide was very kind, helpful and very professional all the time. Thanks Leyla! she explained all history and details.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience.
We would like to clarify an important point: weather conditions in mountainous regions such as Khinalug are unpredictable and are not something a tour operator can control. Snowfall in winter is absolutely normal for this area and cannot be considered a failure of the tour organization.
Also the statement that guests had to walk 20–30 minutes is not accurate. The walking distance was approximately 5–10 minutes only, and it was requested strictly for safety reasons. This section of the road has a very steep slope and was the most snow-covered part of the entire route. We did not want to take any unnecessary risks with vehicles on that specific stretch.
It is important to note that this was the only section where guests were asked to walk. All other parts of the route were passed without difficulty by the vehicles, and there were no issues elsewhere.
Our main priority is always the safety of our guests. Despite the difficult weather conditions, our drivers managed the situation professionally and ensured that everyone returned safely. The decision to walk part of the way was taken purely for safety reasons, which is always more important than comfort or speed.
We do not operate tours when we know in advance that conditions are impossible or roads are closed. In this case, the road was open, and the situation changed during the tour — something that can happen in mountain areas anywhere in the world.
We also kindly remind that guests are free to check the weather forecast themselves and decide whether they feel comfortable joining a mountain tour, especially in winter. Lowering the rating solely due to weather conditions is therefore unfair, as this is beyond the control of the guide, drivers, or company.
We truly appreciate your kind words about our guide Leyla — she is indeed very professional, caring, and dedicated, and we are glad her work was recognized.
We hope that on a future visit, under better weather conditions, you will be able to fully enjoy the beauty of Khinalug.

Great stops. The village dinner genius. Leyla is fantastic ambassador to bring international group of potentially uncomfortable strangers together and being more friendly after meal. Leyla is great ( and driver damn good too).
Response from Host, Dec 2025
Thank you so much for sharing your experience!
We’re delighted to hear that the stops, the dinner in the village, and the overall atmosphere made the tour memorable. It’s wonderful that the group felt more connected and comfortable along the way — that’s exactly the kind of experience we hope to create.
We appreciate your kind words and hope to welcome you again!

To anyone reading this and especially, Leyla's employer, she was such an outstanding guide. Very knowledgeable, fun, great personality. The trip itself was out of this world.....and she added an additional wonderful layer. If you are reading this Ms Layal, thank you, and your drivers.

Absolutely fantastic day trip deep diving into Azerbaijan culture and its many sides and mountains! We had the best guide Polad (Полад) with us, who shared interesting parts of the history (he even brought printed photos to show), and answered our many questions, he is so funny and professional guide! Mountains area is stunning, I'm glad I've chosen to explore this part of the country. The driver was very professional navigating those windy mountain roads, we appreciate him a lot, as well! There was no issues requesting many stops for photos along beautiful scenery, very thankful for this trip making me and my family happy! We learnt a lot!
Response from Host, Nov 2025
Thank you so much for your wonderful feedback! 🌄
We’re truly happy to hear that you and your family enjoyed the trip and discovered more about Azerbaijan’s rich culture and breathtaking mountains. Polad will be thrilled to know you appreciated his knowledge, humor, and effort — he really loves sharing the history of his country.
We also appreciate your kind words about our driver and the flexibility during the tour. It means a lot to us that the experience brought joy and good memories to your family.
We hope to welcome you again someday for another unforgettable adventure in Azerbaijan!

Met our guide Yusif at 8 am
He was friendly and has a lot of knowledge about our trip.
Tour lasts for about 12 hrs. Plenty of stops along the way for sights and toilet breaks.
Take heavier clothes if your going from September as it was cold up in the village. Lunch was included and very nice.
I recommend this trip for a day away from the city.
Response from Host, Sep 2025
Thank you for your kind review! We’re glad you enjoyed the tour, the stops along the way, and the lunch in the village. Happy to hear Yusif made your day enjoyable!

We had read the fantastic reviews for this trip, and even these were surpassed. This trip is a real authentic off-the-beaten-path adventure, brought to life by our tour guide Layla’s infectious excitement for this beautiful country and the passionate story’s she tells to bring alive the sights you see.
The high light for us was the trip in a Soviet 4x4, up through the mountains and the most beautiful scenery to the village of Xinaliq. When we reached the village, which is one of the highest in the country, we had a traditional home made lunch with a local family, which was full of local ingredients and was so tasty.
Layla makes sure that the drive is broken up with stops perfectly planned and a chance to snap some amazing photos and to take in the beauty on the journey to the north of the country. Layla took over 80 photos for us, and is fantastic at capturing those perfect pics for Insta !
Leyla really is a special guide she is so patient, really paid attention to everyone and their different needs, and was genuinely warm, caring and friendly. My girlfriend and I were left with such wonderful memories and a real appreciation for the region's heritage.

Thank you so much for taking the time to share such a thoughtful and detailed review. We're really glad to hear that you enjoyed the experience and that the trip to Khinaliq left a strong impression on you. It’s great to know that the off-the-beaten-path nature of the tour and the time spent in the mountains gave you a deeper appreciation for the region and its culture.
We’re especially pleased that Leyla was able to make the journey memorable for you — your words reflect the kind of experience we aim to provide every guest. Thank you again for choosing to travel with us. Wishing you many more meaningful adventures ahead.

I had a phenomenal day with Yusif. He reached out the prior day to confirm details and was very helpful in exchanging for local cash required for the off-road vehicle. The day has a lot of driving, but Yusif provided a lot of information and the views were mesmerizing even in overcast weather! Khinaliq and having a local meal in a family home was one of the highlights, and best of all, we saw no other tourists the entire time besides the first stop at Candy mountain! I'd highly recommend this tour.
Chao_W, May 2025
We first passed by the Candy Cane Mountains on our way. Under the clear blue sky, the mountains were incredibly vivid, their colors popping like a stunning living painting.
After that amazing view, we made a transit through Red Village and then hopped onto an offroad car to Khinalig. As we drove towards the high - altitude village, I was in awe of its grandeur. Our guide, Nurlan, was truly remarkable, he was so attuned to everyone’s emotions, ensuring that every traveler felt cared for and included.
On the way back, I accidentally left my selfie stick in the offroad car, but Nurlan managed to retrieve it for me. I'm incredibly grateful!
I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone seeking an unforgettable adventure!
William_B, May 2025
I really enjoyed the tour. Nurlan is very knowledgeable about the region and he led the tour professionally. However, I wished I could have spent more time in Khidalig and see more of Quba.

Layla is a great guide. She has such a positive personality. The tour was well designed and worthwhile.
Madelyn_H, Oct 2024
It’s a lot of driving, but it’s an absolute must to see this part of Azerbaijan! The meal was wonderful as well.
Andrew_G, Sep 2024
This small group tour offers a nice escape from Baku for the day to see some stunning mountain scenery and have a local lunch. We can't fault the enthusiasm of our guide, Layla, who made the day fun and interesting, and whose positive outlook never waivered. The drive up to Guba and Khinalig takes a good couple of hours, but there are stops along the way (most notably the Candy mountains) to break up the journey so the day didn't feel too long. Would recommend!

Thank you for your wonderful words! Your energy matches ours, and we're thrilled to have been part of your adventure!

This was an amazing experience, which I totally recommend (we did the tour on 9th Sept). We both really enjoyed the itinerary, which was very well paced. We loved the beautiful colours of the candy cane mountains and the history in the red village was interesting. The highlight of the tour was the mountain views as we got closer to Khinalig - just stunning - and the lunch in the house in Khinalig village was also a fantastic experience. Wonderful hospitality. Our guide Leyla was an absolute delight, huge energy and lots of fun. She was so welcoming and even helped with taking photos during the day. She explained the sights clearly and it was an all-around great experience. We think Leyla is one of the best guides we have ever had. The driver of the tour was also great fun, and we enjoyed his singing!! Overall, this is a great way to experience a different side to Azerbaijan and we totally recommend it.

Dear Karl!
Thank you for your amazing review! We’re thrilled that you enjoyed the tour, especially the beautiful landscapes and warm hospitality in Khinalig. We're glad Leyla made the experience even more special, and we’ll pass on your kind words to her and the driver. Your recommendation means a lot, and we hope to welcome you back to Azerbaijan soon!

We did enjoy this trip, but felt that the itinerary was a bit over-egged. It was essentially a very long drive to Khinalig village for lunch. The stops along the way were not much more than comfort breaks, as opposed to a chance to see anything meaningful. This was OK and we did enjoy the day and are glad we did the trip, but we thought the itinerary descriptions were a little misleading. For instance, we had expected to see much more of the Red Village, but in reality, it was just a few minutes' stop outside the synagogue, also it would have been good to have had a guided walk around Khinalig village, rather than simply a lunch stop. The landscape and mountains of Guba were truly stunning, so it was worth the trip just to see them. Lunch at the museum house in the village was also an amazing experience, though the options for vegetarians were limited to soup, salad and rice because all main courses were meat-based even though we were asked about this during the booking process. There was a lot of pressure from the guide to write a review of the trip before we left the mini-bus, which we felt was unprofessional. Overall though, an experience we wouldn't have missed.
Response from Host, Sep 2024
Dear Guest
Thank you for sharing your feedback with us, although we are unable to locate you on our guest list, so perhaps there has been a misunderstanding.
We are glad to hear that you enjoyed the breathtaking landscapes of Guba and the unique experience of having lunch at the museum house in Khinalig village. However, we regret that the itinerary did not fully meet your expectations. We understand that time can feel limited during a group tour, which is why we also offer private tours that allow more flexibility for exploring the stops in detail, including a guided walk around Khinalig village.
Regarding the lunch, it is important to note that this is not a restaurant, but a traditional home where locals live, so the meal options are naturally limited. We aim to provide an authentic experience, and we do our best to accommodate dietary preferences within the local offerings.
As for your concern about the guide, our guides are instructed to kindly remind guests at the end of the tour to leave a review, but there is no pressure to do so immediately. We apologize if this made you feel uncomfortable.
We appreciate your feedback and are glad that you wouldn't have missed the experience.
Kind regards,
Azerbaijan Explorer

Cool places to see but never saw them in any great detail as we were rushed from itinerary point to point. 10 mins at each place is nowhere near enough. We should have started earlier or made it an overnight tour. It's ridiculous to rush this, especially given the conditions of the mountain roads (NO barriers)! Ulya was disappointing too, not showing any concern when I got bitten as she claimed there were no bees in Azerbaijan. In the summer heat. OK then... Give this tour a miss!
Response from Host, Sep 2024
Dear Marina,
Thank you for your feedback. We’re sorry to hear that the tour did not fully meet your expectations. Please note that this is a group excursion, which means time spent at each stop is limited to fit the schedule for all participants. We always recommend private tours for those wanting more flexibility and extended time at the locations.
As for the bee bite, we apologize for the inconvenience, but unfortunately, we cannot control external factors such as insects or weather conditions. Our guides do their best to assist, but their primary focus is ensuring the safety and overall experience of the entire group.
We appreciate your understanding and hope you’ll consider a more personalized tour option next time for a better experience.
Best regards,
Azerbaijan Explorer

Enjoyable day excursion from Baku. The trip through the mountains to Khinalig was definitely the highlight. At times the road travels above the clouds. Torghul was an excellent guide, extremely knowledgeable and informative about the area and culture, as well as Azerbaijan in general, and Mohammed was an excellent driver, navigating the roads and traffic with ease. Highly recommended
Response from Host, Aug 2024
Thank you for your kind words! We're delighted you enjoyed the trip to Khinalig and that Torghul and Mohammed enhanced your experience. We appreciate your recommendation and look forward to welcoming you back!

Road to Khinalig is challenging but the driver has excellent driving skills and manner to manage that. Landscape along the road is stunning.

Shared lunch with the family in the small village was incredible. Leyla was great guide - very funny and helpful.
Ioannis_O, May 2024
The tour was very well organised from the beginning till the end. Although it is a long way to get to Xinaliq, it compensated us with great views along the way and in Xinaliq. Leyla, the guide, is knowledgeable and funny and helped us with everything we needed. Recommended!

The day we spent in Quba region and Khinaliq was amazing! Toghrul is the funniest, kindest and most informative tour guide! The places we visited were breathtaking and the lunch in at a local household in the village was an unforgettable experience! If you plan to go on a day trip, choose one!
