A wonderful 3 days filled with great sites and entertaining, informative dialogue throughout. Stuart, our guide, squeezed in as many sites as possible to impress us with his beautiful country.
Mountains, monsters, lochs and bagpipes!
ronitasinha1, Sep 2026
This is a very focused tour of the Scottish Highlands which provides first time visitors with a great feel for the famous lochs and mountains. Glecoe and Quairing are absolutely breathtaking and they were rendered even more magical when our tour guide/driver, Hugh Mackay, dressed in a kilt, began playing his bagpipes. He’s a true son of Scotland with deep knowledge of the land and its history. Although we didn’t glimpse the Lochness monster we got great views of castles and ruins and learned a lot from Hugh.
The accommodation was excellent as was the breakfast. This was a small group tour, only 15 of us, so was cozy and we had lots of opportunities to ask questions.
If you want to explore individual places like Portree or Piltochry then this might not be the one for you But if you’re happy with everything taken care of and a great feel for the highlands then go for it. You won’t regret it!

Hi there Ronita,
It's lovely to hear that your group had such a nice time exploring Skye and the Highlands with our wonderful guide Hugh. We are very proud of our guides dedication to their craft, and it sounds like Hugh went above and beyond to show your group the best of Scotland in 3 days. It is also great to hear that you enjoyed your accommodation, as well as how travelling with a smaller group allowed plenty of time to ask questions.
Thank you for choosing Highland Experience Tours, we would be delighted to welcome you again on your next Scottish adventure.

A Great Guide Makes A Great Trip
Ken_M, Sep 2026
Our driver and guide, Dougie, was a delightfully enthusiastic fountain of humor, local knowledge, Scottish history, and wee helpful tips that enhanced our trip. I truly miss his silliness. The beautiful Scottish countryside is not to be missed - there’s nothing like it. We’ve had several great experiences with Viator… I highly recommend them.
A great tour of the Highlands
Yelena_C, Sep 2026
Chris was an excellent guide and driver. He was entertaining, knowledgeable, and passionate about Scottish history and culture. In booking this tour, you are choosing breadth over depth but I loved how much of the country we were able to see, the magnificent landscape, and breathtaking sights. I liked that I got a sense of the country outside of major cities. It's definitely a lot of time on the bus but Chris made the trip fun and educational. The accommodations were fine, our group of about 30 was split up among 6-8 B&Bs.
Dougie makes the trip extra special!
Leslie_E, Sep 2026
Where to start.... we hemmed and hawed about 3 days on a bus- but to see Skye, we decided to go for it. Our group of 4 is thrilled that we did! We saw a lot, learned a lot, stayed true to the itinerary and had great lodgings in Inverness. Dougie, though, our guide and driver, made it special. His stories were interesting and he made it fun! He was respectful and told silly dad jokes. He gave great recommendations, as well. I tried not to pepper him with Outlander questions 🤣 Honestly, we enjoyed our road time a lot! We would recommend this tour as a great overview of the Highlands and Skye 💙

Hi Leslie,
Thank you so much for your fantastic review! We are so glad to hear that you enjoyed your tour.

We hope to welcome you on tour again soon!

Disappointed
Sandra_M, Jul 2026
We were able to cover a lot of ground and see much of the Highlands on this tour. The primary negative was that our guide could not be heard while he was narrating. Over the course of the first two days, multiple people on the tour told him that no one could hear him while he was speaking and driving. The guide tried turning up his microphone and he could be heard for a couple of minutes, but then his voice just trailed off and no one could hear him again. After multiple requests over the course of the first 2 days, all of us just gave up on hearing any narration and worked to enjoy the view and the stops. Our group did not get a guided tour. We felt like we had
A bus transport - NOT a guided tour.
Another challenge was where we were left for our overnight accommodations. There were 27 passengers on our tour. We were all left to sleep in various spots throughout Inverness. Some were left in the heart of the city with dining and shopping on the street. Our B&B, on the other hand, was a 20 minute walk to get food or shopping. We were disappointed to be left so far out and grateful that it did not rain while we were there. I would say there was a great disparity in the quality of lodging between the guests in our group.
I would not recommend this tour company to future travelers. There looked to be many tour companies at the stops we made so it would not be difficult to find a different company who provided better guiding and better accommodations.
Response from Host, Jul 2026
Hi,
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. While we're pleased to hear you enjoyed the Highland scenery and the places you visited, we're sorry to learn that aspects of the tour fell short of your expectations.
We're particularly disappointed to hear about the issues with the microphone, as our guides' commentary is a key part of the experience. We appreciate you bringing this to our attention, as this is certainly not the standard we aim to provide, and we'll ensure your comments are shared with the relevant team for review.
Regarding the accommodation, our overnight stops use a range of local B&Bs and guesthouses. While we do our best to allocate accommodation fairly, availability can mean that some properties are located further from the centre than others.
Thank you again for your comments - we appreciate you taking the time to let us know about your experience.
Kind regards,
Siobhan

Lots of sitting on cramped bus.
Jenny_D, Jun 2026
80% of the trip was 34 of us passengers sitting on a cramped noisy bus with very poor sound system making it really difficult to understand the guide’s Scottish accent (English is our mother tongue). Many sites were only seen in the distance. On the other hand - good driving skills. Many bathroom breaks. Beautiful scenery and we did see a lot of the highlands. Enjoyed our evening walks in Inverness and the B&B accommodations were lovely.
Response from Host, Jul 2026
Hi there,
Thank you for your review! We're glad you got to experience the beauty of the Highlands, great driving, and lovely B&B stays in Inverness. However, we are very sorry that the bus ride felt cramped and that the sound system made it difficult to hear our guide. Clear commentary and passenger comfort are incredibly important to us, so we are addressing these audio and vehicle issues with our team right away. We appreciate your honest feedback!

It was a wonderful tour. Great sights. Off the bus frequently for sights, activities and quick rest stop. Very knowledgeable guide and very accommodating. Worth the three days and the cost.
Highly recommend. Doogie are guide was excellent.
Very good tour!

Craig was an excellent tour guide on this 3-day tour! He shared many historical facts and even some personal stories to keep the tour group engaged; he answered a multitude of questions too. Each of the three days were full, but allowed plenty of time for exploration of stops at villages & historical sights. We stayed at the same bed & breakfast for the two nights of the tour, allowing us to get to know the host too. Highly recommend this tour! Rather than driving, it was nice to enjoy the scenery along the way too.
We had such a fun time!...

We had such a fun time! our driver/tour guide Craig was really fun & super informative & you could tell he really loves talking about his country. we enjoyed all the dad jokes. We had a pretty small group on our bus - 21 people. and it was cool to see where everyone else was from. I would 100% recommend this tour to anyone visiting Scotland! it was so nice to just sit back and enjoy the ride & the scenery. You really get to see a lot! we enjoyed learning about all the history as well.

Make sure this is the right tour for you
Alex_W, May 2026
While there may be some folks for whom this tour is a perfect match, I want to make clear to other potential bookers what the experience actually looked like. Unfortunately this tour wasn't right for what we wanted, but maybe it will be for you.
What to Expect:
- Effective transportation to Skye and back from Edinburgh or Glasgow
- Friendly driver
- Maximized stops to see as many sites as possible
- Reasonable accommodations
- Some historical/cultural context from tour guide
What NOT to expect:
- More than 20-30 minutes at any historic/natural sites (on average) - many stops being only 10-15 minutes
- In depth context/talks on sites from guide
- Visits to any of the famous Skye fairy sites (excluding the Sligachan Bridge -- listing "magical waters" on the itinerary is true and perhaps misleading in its broadness)
- Staying the night in Skye / independent time to explore on Skye
- Guaranteed adherence to advertised stops on route (we learned that this more up to driver's discretion).
If you are looking to take in as much scenery as you can during your time in Scotland and are okay with mostly seeing it from the bus -- as opposed to having independent time to explore -- I think this tour would be just fine for you. But if you are looking for more freedom as a traveler to independently explore the sites listed with enough time, to have robust historical/cultural expertise from your guide, or be able to stay the night on Skye, I would look for a different experience.
Response from Host, Jul 2026
Thank you for taking the time to share such detailed feedback. We’re sorry to hear that the tour didn’t fully match your expectations, but we appreciate you highlighting the aspects that you enjoyed, including the scenery, transportation, and your guide’s friendly approach.
Our 3-day Isle of Skye and Highlands tour is designed to showcase a wide variety of landscapes, history, and viewpoints within a set itinerary, while allowing guests to experience many of the highlights of the region. We understand that every traveller has different preferences, and we’ll continue to review feedback like yours to help us improve the experience we provide.
Thank you for travelling with Highland Experience Tours.

Loved the Highlands & Isle of Skye
Daniel_C, May 2026
We loved everything about this tour. The itinerary was excellent. Alot of frequent and excellent stops which kept bus time down. It was good to get to walk around, have restroom and food breaks. The B& B hotel was great. The owners were super friendly and prepared excellent breakfasts. The bus was very clean and small (16 pax) so I recommend doing Scotland tours with 16 pax (or less) buses due to the very narrow Scottish roads in the Highlands and Isle of Skye. Our tour guide/driver (Hugh Mackay) was amazing. He was very knowledgeable about all the stops, was courteous, was customer focused, and was always on time. He demonstrated great leadership with getting all the attendees to show up and depart at the proper times. He even played the bagpipes for us. Overall, we loved it and felt we had a very diversified and educational experience with seeing so much in a short period of time. Great job!

Absolute Must Do!
Jessica_N, May 2026
Our 3‑day Scottish Highlands and Isle of Skye tour was unforgettable, and that’s entirely thanks to our guide, Dougie. From the moment we started, he brought so much energy, humour, and heart to the experience. He shared so many stories and bits of history that I never would’ve learned on my own, and he even surprised us with extra viewpoints along the way. He always had recommendations on the best places to eat in every place we stopped. It’s rare to have a guide who elevates a trip from “great” to “truly memorable,” but Dougie did exactly that. It was a nice small group as well so we were lucky to have just been in a Sprinter van which I feel like is the best way to see Scotland, rather than a large bus. This trip has been a dream of mine that I have been waiting to re-book ever since my trip got cancelled in 2020 and it was WELL WORTH THE WAIT!

Excellent Trip!
mansoor_s, Mar 2026
The trip with highland experience tours was amazing. Tour guide John was funny, thoughtful and helpful. He managed to strike a good balance between Scottish history, music and quieter times. He added quite a few photo stops based on the weather conditions. I appreciate him going above the itinerary to make it a memorable experience. Couple of things to note though is that as with any long tours, some of the sights had to be rushed up a bit. Time in Portree could easily be extended by another 30 mins to relax. Another major point that I wish they consider is that of picking up people from different stays. They have put our group on 3 stays across Inverness. The pickup on both the days started from the same stay which unfairly disadvantaged us who were on stay 2 and 3. Sadly, the 1st stay had more people and hence we were left with the few seats in the last and couldn’t sit together which is not right as all of us pay the same price. To avoid this, they should either put everyone on the same place of stay or pick up everyone from the same spot or start from the stay where less people are staying. Anyways, we managed to check with the guide and walked over to the 1st pickup point on day 3 to ensure at-least we sit together. Apart from this, everything was great!

We appreciate your constructive points regarding Portree and the Inverness pickups. We’re always looking for ways to improve, and feedback like yours helps us refine how we organise group logistics while maintaining a smooth tour experience.
We’re so glad that, despite the challenges, the tour remained enjoyable and memorable for you. It would be wonderful to welcome you back for another Highland adventure in the future!
