Our guide Han was...
Our guide Han was excellent. We went first thing in the morning before the streets were busy. Han was able to tell us a lot about the Geiko, the history and provide many interesting insights into the Gion area. She also gave us good advice on other important places to visit and the best times.

Would recommend!
Very informative, as one would expect on a guided tour. Many people will, inevitably, try to navigate different historical sites not understanding what they are looking at. This is where Viator and their talented guides really shine! Our guide was knowledgeable, and communicated well!

Return to the Edo era
Yuko was very kind, smiling, and patient with our questions. She had a family-oriented and professional approach at the same time. We learned many things about the walls, porticos, and gardens. Without her explanations, the history of these places would have been dull. Thanks to her.

See where power transfers to the emperor
Tomoya was a terrific guide - he gave very interesting insights and observations to this tour. This is one a few sites in Kyoto with some original structures in place (that haven’t burnt down or been rebuilt) and for that alone I would recommend this tour. I enjoyed it.

Great service!
Excellent communication with the driver who was very friendly, prompt and courteous. Our flight was delayed 90 minutes but that had no affect our service. I texted him immediately letting him know and he texted back right away that it was no problem. Communication is the key on both ends

SOOOOO much amazing food
We met on a rainy evening as strangers and parted 4hrs later as friends. All the bars and food where amazing, some of the plates placed on the table, I would never have ordered, and yet when I tried them they turned out to be simply the best. Don't let your eyes decieve you!

Highlight of our trip!
What a fun experience! Simon took us on a journey of great food and drink. From monja, fresh fish, shrimp, chicken, sea grapes and edamame to Hoppy Beer, whiskey, gin, sake and beer. The food and drink were amazing but the conversation about the neighborhood and the food/drink were even better! This tour is a perfect to offset the traditional sites of shrines, temples and palaces. Highly recommend Simon and this tour!

Fantastic Tour
Booked the Friday 9 AM tour and arrived to find out it was going to be a private tour for myself and my friend! Kodai was unbelievably kind and patient and answered every question we had. Afterwards, he even provided some recommendations of other nice shrines to visit as well as where we could go for lunch.
The tour lasted 1.5 hours and was fantastic! It was a high point of the trip - we're not sure we would have found the shrine quite as meaningful without the information Kodai provided us. If we'd come on our own, we would have just gone straight to the shrine, gotten a stamp, turned around and moved on. Instead, we left with an understanding of the site in addition to shrines in general.

Tomomi is an excellent...
Tomomi is an excellent local guide who maneuvers around the interests of the guests and any needs that may arise. She and our driver Toshi who is an experienced driver navigated many hidden venues to capture a view of Mt. Fuji, a local sake brewery and an excellent local winery. Many thanks to them for an excellent day despite the rain.

I had such a great...
I had such a great experience with this cooking class in Tokyo. The instructors were incredibly informative and explained everything in a way that felt approachable and easy to follow, even for someone who doesn’t regularly cook Japanese food. What I appreciated most was how accessible the recipes were — nothing felt intimidating or overly complicated, and each step was clearly explained. I left the class feeling genuinely confident and excited to try making Japanese dishes again once I got home. It was both educational and empowering, and I’d absolutely recommend it to anyone looking for a hands-on, thoughtful introduction to Japanese cooking.

Fun intro to Sake
Really fun experience. Joe was really knowledgeable and such a nice guy. Went very fast so not sure we retained it all but worth getting the basis of sake to use in the future. Definitely eat before as they recommend - we ran out of time and got drunk quickly. Overall really fun!

A Delicious and Educational Morning!
Walking through Tsukiji Market with Miho was such a wonderful experience.
She shared so much information about the market, the different vendors, and what foods are worth trying — it really brought the whole place to life.
Hiroko was our amazing instructor for the sushi-making class. She was patient, encouraging, and gave us great tips on preparing miso soup and seasoning the rice properly. I especially loved learning how to make the Japanese egg omelette, but the highlight was definitely mastering a sushi roll!
I highly recommend this experience — it’s a fantastic way to learn from locals and get hands-on with authentic Japanese cooking.
