An excellent full day tour. It covered many of the significant war memorials, especially in relation to Australian’s and Canadians. The lunch stop in Pozières although not included was amazing (LE TOMMY Café). Our driver/Guide Etienne was great bringing to life each stop with historical stories and facts. I would highly recommend doing it.

Fabulous Tour with Aussie flavour.

Jenny_S, Mar 2026
This was a comprehensive tour of the area. As Aussies it was great to see so many sites that feature in the history of Australia’s participation in WW1. The focus on the Commonwealth was of interest to us. Phillipe, our guide was fabulous! He was warm, friendly and knowledgeable with a delightful sense of humour.

Response from Host, Mar 2026

Amazing

Kym_W, Dec 2025
What a day. So much more about the Australian involvement in WWI I didn’t know. There was an inkling. At school, we’re taught about Gallipoli. I didn’t fully understand the significance of Villers-Bretonneux. We started out at the cathedral in Amiens. It was damaged by the German bombings in 1918. The Australian defence of Villers-Bretonneux prevented the Germans from advancing on Amiens, and the town became a safe zone for allied forces. We stopped the Thipeval Memorial of the Missing and then at the Pozieres Memorial and at the Australian Corps Memorial Park in Le Hamel. Our last stop was the John Monash Centre near Villers-Bretonneux (Somme) in northern France. So much more information and the memorial is beautiful. I also feel this day was possibly the coldest I have ever felt. Imagine fighting a war in those conditions - cold, rain, snow. I can’t.

Response from Host, Dec 2025

Thank you so much for your wonderful review! We’re delighted to hear you found the tour informative and moving, and that it gave new insight into the Australian role in WWI. We completely agree — experiencing the sites in person really brings the history to life. We hope to welcome you on another tour soon! - Alice

Unforgettable day

REBECCA_W, Nov 2025
An educational and profoundly moving day. Even people with little more than a vague interest in WW1 history will gain something from the experience, especially for Australians and Canadians. Highlights included the breathtaking Amiens cathedral, the preserved trenches around the Newfoundland memorial, the devastation memorial to the missing, and the John Monash Australian War Memorial. Our guide Etienne demonstrated genuine passion for the region and events, and was well-prepared, patient and highly professional. Hot tip: rug up, and wear waterproof footwear with decent tread - our day turned out to be much colder than forecast!

Response from Host, Nov 2025

Thank you so much for sharing your thoughtful review! We’re delighted to hear how meaningful the day was and that Etienne’s passion and knowledge enhanced your experience. Your practical tip about the weather is spot on great advice for future travellers! - Alice

Get a bigger bus or take less people

Jeff_R, Oct 2025
The guide (Marie) was knowledgeable and friendly. The interests of the guide group were considered. The experience was made so much more enjoyable due to her skill and consideration. The day was blighted by the size of the bus. I felt cramped and uncomfortable. Being in a cramped bus for 12 hours detracted from the experience.

Response from Host, Oct 2025

Thank you for your feedback. We’re glad to hear that Marie made the tour enjoyable with her knowledge and attention to the group’s needs. We do offer a small-group experience, and our vans are designed for up to 8 people, to provide a more comfortable and personalized tour. We appreciate your comments and will continue looking for ways to improve the experience. - Alice

Somme December 24

Lawrence_N, Sept 2025
It is a long day but well worth the experience. If you do this tour in winter, (December 2024), be well prepared for the cold and rain, we thought we were, but our Australian winter clothing was no match for a Somme winter. Our driver/tour guide was very good and was well versed in all aspects of the area. Plenty of stops along the way for toilet breaks and refreshments. It was amazing just how well the area has survived nearly 110 years, with bomb craters and trenches still there. The war graves and memorials are a just next level in showing respect for the fallen. Highly recommend this tour.

Gary_N, Sept 2025
I’m sure the tour would have been amazing but disappointingly ours was cancelled at the last minute after we and others on the tour had already arrived at the meeting point. Unsure why the driver didn’t show but no replacement could be found so the tour was cancelled. Unfortunately this was the only day that we were able to do the tour.

Well worth doing

David_S, Aug 2025
The trip with Oliver was excellent and he was very knowledgeable. Every place we went to he was able to provide plenty of details. I’d highly recommend.

Response from Host, Aug 2025

Worst tour ever taken

Anna_M, Jul 2025
Our guide was a young university student who arrived late and was dressed like he had just gotten out of bed. He driving was terrible bordering on dangerous especially on trip home. He knew virtually nothing about the sites we visited and used laminated picture cards on occasions. He had an extremely strong French accent and even said that we wouldn't understand him due to his accent. His lack of interest in the tour was very apparant. Luckily for my husband i had been to the sites before and was able to give him some information. A sad way to end a wonderful 5 week holiday in France. A total waste of time and money and if they cannot get a better guide do not offer the tour.

Response from Host, Jul 2025

Hi Anna_M, Thank you for your feedback. We are very sorry to hear that your experience did not meet expectations. We take your concerns seriously regarding the guide’s professionalism, knowledge, and driving. We truly regret that your tour was disappointing and appreciate you bringing these issues to our attention. Kind regards, - Alice

This is an emotional & moving day trip with a history lesson. We were the only ones on the trip. Ollie our tour guide is very knowledgeable and gave us time at each of the sites visited. Appropriate for Australians.

Excellent

Fascinating glimpse at Australians fighting in World War 1. Sir John Monash Centre and Villers-Bretonneux memorial were moving and exceptional

Great tour

I was the only person on the tour for the day. Nessa the guide was fantastic in organising an experience Tailored to my requests.

Excellent Tour - very educational

Sarah_M, Dec 2024
We loved the tour, our guide Sarah was very friendly and knowledgable. Seeing first hand where so many Australians fought and died was an unbelievable experience. The John Monash museum was also amazing. I would highly recommend this tour.

Somme Tour

Erik_C, Nov 2024
This was the best tour my wife and I did throughout all of our honeymoon! I can't remember the name of our tour guide I had on October 27th but she was the best! She was so knowledgable about the battles and the ear. She was spectacular, She took her time explaining and gave us as much time as we needed to enjoy each POI. She seriously is the best and had the best attitude when it came to anything, very easy going. 5 stars! I would give more if I had the opportunity!

Amazing Tour

Mandy_C, Oct 2024
Aaron, our guide, was amazing. He was so knowledgeable and explained what took place during the battle of the Somme. He went above and beyond. Cant recommend this tour enough. It was so good.

Worry every penny

Ryan_P, Oct 2024
Pierre is such a great guide. Very knowledgeable, kind, good humor when it's appropriate as well. I was a US American on a tour with quite a few Aussies and after checking with me he restructured the itinerary slightly for them and I thought that was so cool. The Aussies were instrumental in WW1 and their monument is almost a religious experience. The guide was great and the sites are tear jerking, worth every penny.

Experience of a lifetime

Nicole_P, Sept 2024
Aaron's comprehensive knowledge of WW1 made our tour incredibly interesting. I absolutely appreciated Aaron's genuine interest in his clients and their reasons for wanting to join this tour. He was able to take me to the area of the Somme where my grandfather fought and taken to when wounded. This meant the world to me and an experience l will never forget. Thank you Aaron.

Battle of Somme Tour

Sander_M, Sept 2024
Victor was a fabulous guide. The itinerary was quite extensive and really covered thoroughly the events surrounding the Battle of the Somme on “Day One” in particular and generally thereafter. Very helpful to tourists generally and those of us reading about these events.

Worth a visit - Excellent coverage of WW!

Elizabeth_F, Aug 2024
Our guide was very knowledgeable and allowed us time to visit the number of places - and see the world war one locations with the Battle of the Somme. To see what the soldiers went through and the conditions they lived in and their fight to win the war, was an incredible experience. To imagine what they went through and how brave they were was something that will stay etched in our memories. The only disappointing experience was the food we ordered was poor quality at Le Tommy at Poziers - (Maybe it was a bad day) - 4 out of 8 people chose the steak and could not eat, however the museum attached to the restaurant was very interesting and had a lot of memorabilla and was a credit to the owner who has spent many hours collecting items from the war and re-created the conditions and trenches the soldiers from both sides were in. Impressive. Tour otherwise very good value .

Fantastic Somme Battlefields tour with Aaron

Peter_G, Aug 2024
We had an amazing tour with Aaron to Somme battlefields. It exceeded our expectations. Aaron was a great host, very knowledgeable and engaging and went out of his way to make our tour special. I would highly recommend this tour especially if you are Australian, so much history there.

Excellent Tour & Tour Guide

Rob_F, Jul 2024
This was an excellent tour for a number of reasons. The key to the tour being enjoyable was being in the care of our tour guide Aaron. I think, as Aaron served in the military, it is a good way to honour those who sacrificed themselves. He loved showing us and helped remind us that the war was mechanised slaughter. Aaron has a comprehensive knowledge on WW1 and WW2 and for myself and wife as Aussies with family having military experiences we relished the details provided. Sir John Monash centre is an outstanding place to appreciate all about WW1 and a great tribute to Monash who was instrumental for the Allies victory. Touring the sites of graves and sites of intense fighting is not for all but it is a sober reminder of tragedy of war and it becomes personal when you know those men and women were ordinary people. People just like us, yet so brave, so dedicated and so young.

Amazing small tour of historic WW1 sites

Annabelle_H, Jun 2024
My dad loved this trip! We felt the WW1 tour was much smaller and more personal than the huge WW2 tours we found online. We loved this tour because it was a small bus (with A/C!) instead of a huge tour bus, and there were only two other people on the trip with us. Our tour guide was fantastic, telling us all the stories and history of the places we visited. It also felt like we made it to all the attractions before most of the big tour groups got there so it was quiet and personal. (Beware, the restaurant we went to for lunch that had an attached museum was good, but there was nothing for vegans - which is expected in rural France).

Great small group tour

Corey_L, Jun 2024
This was a great small group tour. Saw the actual trenches and all the hi lights of the Somme battlefield.

Excellent tour

Jenni_G, Jun 2024
Aaron was our tour guide and because we were the only couple that day, we had more attention and just a bit extra I'm sure, than if there were a big group. Aaron was extremely knowledgeable, having been in the military forces himself. He had a passion for knowing masses of past war history details and his accuracy was evident. We are from Victoria Aust, so visiting Villers-Bretonneux was a special treat because of the gratitude, the little town still has, even now, for our soldiers in saving their town. We went on the WWI tour but he also does WWII as well. We highly recommend this tour especially if you have Aaron as your guide.
