If you read the description and still aren't sure what this tour is really about, I thought the same thing. After going on the tour, I must say I was pleasently surprised by how engaging and entertaining Mario was as a tour guide. It's not like a tour that talks about the same facts you can read up on using the Internet; Mario makes it all about the art itself and the message behind Michealangelos work. He kept the tour lively and did a great job and keeping the attendees engaged (I was impressed by how he remembered everyones names and spoke with such excitement about the subject). I went with 3 people I knew and we couldn't help but quote the things he said in the following days during out stay in Florence. Go with an open mind and you won't be disappointed.

Mario was great. We learned a lot and I enjoyed the experience. It was a bit too much critical thinking involved as Mario’s tour method was very engaging and we preferred to just listen and zone out if we desired too but that’s on us, not him. This tour is very engaging and personal. If you want to zone out, book a large group tour.

This tour was honestly such a great experience. It’s not just a quick go look at the David and move on, Mario really pulls you into the whole story, the creative process, the emotion, the intention. I'd never pick up the details just wandering around on my own. You can tell he’s genuinely passionate about this subject and makes you excited too.
What I loved most is how interactive it is. Mario doesn’t just talk at you, he asks these really thoughtful questions that make you stop and think about what you’re seeing. And when you get something right, he’s so encouraging, lots of praise, big smiles, even the occasional high‑five. It makes the whole thing feel fun and personal, not like a typical museum tour.
I walked away with a completely new appreciation for Michelangelo and the David. If you want something meaningful, engaging, and led by someone who truly cares about helping you understand the art on a deeper level, this is absolutely worth booking.
Huge bonus too is the skipping the line. We arrived early and already the queues were crazy. With skip the line, we went straight to the front!

Mario was so knowledgeable and guided the tour group seamlessly through the museum teaching us throughout with interactive activities and all tied back to the overall message. The perfect amount of time as well!

We had an excellent tour with Mario. He was a very engaging and knowledgeable guide, thanks Mario. Everything was very easy to find as well

We did the Michelangelo creative process tour with Mario and it was the best guided tour experience we had in Italy! His passion, knowledge, and inclusivity had us smiling from ear to ear while we learned so many facts about Michelangelo that I would not have learned without him. This is not your typical tour explaining picture by picture, this is truly all about the mind of Michelangelo with an introspective perspective of life that will leave you reminiscent and grateful. We are truly fortunate to have him as a guide and would wholly recommend him to anyone looking to add a once in a lifetime experience in Florence!

A really engaging tour, led by Mario, who spoke good English and offered a fresh, philosophical take on David. He focused on his unique idea of the "moment in progress": Mario also made a great connection to the Sistine Chapel and his other statues, showing how Michelangelo explored this same concept throughout his works.
Not too long, insightful, and definitely worth it.

Pre-booked and paid £123 for a “skip-the-line” visit to see Michelangelo’s David in Florence.
On arrival, we were told we had to pay an additional €24 each just to enter the museum, which left us questioning what the original £123 actually covered.
We were then handed an audio guide system, along with earphones that were clearly not new or disposable—they had already been used by someone else. Normally, you would expect to receive a new disposable earpiece, so this felt unhygienic and quite off-putting.
In the end, we paid the extra fee (which the guide had initially covered), but decided not to continue. We handed back the audio equipment and left the group before the tour even started, so we can’t comment on the tour itself.
A very disappointing experience for what should have been a highlight of the trip.
Response from Host, Apr 2026
Thank you for sharing your experience. I’m truly sorry that there was some confusion at the beginning of the visit. I would like to clarify an important point:
the museum entrance ticket is not included in the tour price, and this is clearly stated in the tour description. The 35€ per person covers the guided experience, while the €25 museum ticket must always be purchased separately. This information is highlighted on the tour profile and is also repeated in the follow‑up emails sent before the visit. You also answered "ok" to my mail about the museum ticket cost!
Regarding the audio system:
the radios are equipped with sanitized over‑ear “shell” earpieces, which are cleaned and disinfected. They are not disposable, but they are hygienically prepared for each guest.
I’m sorry that you chose not to Start the tour, especially since I had already covered the additional ticket cost to help you enter without delay. I hope that, despite this misunderstanding, you were still able to enjoy your time in Florence.... Please for the next time I suggest you well read the tour profile and mail communication !

Anthony_L, Apr 2026
Very enthusiastic and interactive interpretation of the statue of David. Mario obviously loves his job and shows his passion for the arts.

Mario is clearly very passionate, knowledgeable and helped us develop a new perspective of Michaelangelo and his work.

We really enjoyed it. Mario was a wonderful guide, with an amazing knowledge, and he was able to interact with all the group. We learned a lot and it was interesting the way he connected the past to the present. We also meet new people with different backgrounds.

Mario was a fantastic informative, entertaining, and engaging guide. We had a wonderful time as a family with Mario and the group we were a part of. This is highly recommended for adults and children alike.

Mario the tour guide is the best! So insightful and very interactive... He's extremely entertaining and inclusive. You won't regret booking with him! No question we'd use him again for other tours!

Mario is incredible. This is a one of a kind experience that we just lucked into. Mario has a unique take that is intellectual, emotional and spiritual. Insightful and inspiring. If you're looking for a list of dates and names and places this is not that tour - don't get me wrong Mario knows that stuff and includes where appropriate. This tour is fascinating. Thank you, Mario!

This was such a unique and awesome tour! The thing to know first is this is a deep dive into Michelangelo's artistic style and perspective evolution. Personally, I wanted to do something different than walk around the whole museum with a big group and cover too many works of art to really remember any of it. This tour was perfect! It was like being in Mario's masterclass on Michelangelo. It was also super interactive, and I was really impressed that Mario learned everyone's names and made sure to include everyone individually in the conversation. One member of the group was even live translating Mario's commentary into Chinese on her phone. When he found out, he invited her to stand next to him through the rest of the tour so the translation would pick up his words better. There was also a child in the group, and while I wouldn't necessarily recommend the tour for kids since it is pretty intellectual and philosophical, Mario did an excellent job keeping the kid engaged.
Highly recommend for a very unique and fascinating tour with a fantastic and extremely knowledgeable guide!
Lesley_B, Oct 2025
Not your average tour. Mario had very thought provoking theories about Michaelangelo’s process of creating the David.
Sherley_V, Oct 2025
It was worth every cent to have Mario do such an excellent job He guided us through a philosophical and visual tour of Michaela gelo’s spiritual journey through his art work.
radkin_r, Oct 2025
We had a great experience with our guide Mario Gesu. He was very informed, entertaining and included the members of our group in his very instructional tour of the David and Michelangelo’s works. He didn’t just describe the statue but instead educated us as to the reasons behind Michelangelo’s work. He made us think as to what Michelangelo thought process was as he created his masterpiece. He is obviously very passionate about his subject and has researched the background thoroughly. The lesson we learned - or rather reconfirmed as we have done other tours over the years is the value of having a guided tour. We would not have gotten as much from going to the Museum and seeing the works without a good guide. Mario excelled and we are the better for it. It was well worth the additional cost.

Best way to visit the museum. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and engaging with our group. Highly recommend
Licia_R, Oct 2025
I did not realize that after you pay the Viator fee, you still need to pay 20 euros to enter the museum. It was expensive. I liked the guide, Mario, he was passionate, but I also wanted to know more about the art in general. What he had to say was philosophical and interesting, however.
Shelli_V, Oct 2025
Our guide Mario was great. He obviously loves what he does. I would highly recommend this tour and request Mario!!
Ben_L, Oct 2025
Excellent tour and guide from Mario. Very very knowledgable and passionate, made the tour really fun and engaging and I felt I learned a lot. Would very highly recommend this tour
Theresa_D, Oct 2025
This is not for a person that just wants to see David; it is so much more than that! Mario displays a true passion takes you into a deep experience of the art of Michelangelo. He makes it interactive, interesting, and informative. We came away with not only an appreciation of the masterful talent of the artist, but with a new understanding of his process and inspiration. Molto been!
Donna_B, Oct 2025
This was hands down the best tour I've ever had! I left the tour with so much more than simply an appreciation for the beauty of the art. I saw David with a completely different lens and received a deep message that transcends time! GREAT, GREAT TOUR!
Nicole_K, Oct 2025
Our tour guide Mario is one of the best guides we experienced in Italy so far. He is enthusiastic and introduced a very interesting perspective of Michelangelo’s work. He had us in our cued line for a timely entrance.
Weston_L, Oct 2025
First, let me say that the museum was small but awesome! To see the David in person was amazing and inspiring. Honestly, pictures in a book or online don't do it justice! The experience was well worth the investment.
Second, the 3-star review is a mixed review. My wife enjoyed herself. I didn't.
Last, the tour guide was a nice guy and very personable. He was on time. And he got us in without any issues. So, why the three stars???
Because the guide made the tour more about him and his theories about Michaelangelo. Not about the history and the art.
And he continued to tell us to pay attention to him instead of looking around at the art... the entire reason I was there!!!
Like my wife, some people will enjoy this tour. However, some of you will not. It just depends on your reason for going to that museum.
Her rating is a four star. Mine is a two star. Hence the three stars.

If you are an art major, I would highly recommend this tour. Even if you aren’t if a good tour. He is so knowledgeable and is very informative. He remembered each of our names and is constantly interacted with us.
