Favorite family hike in Iceland!
This glacier hike was the highlight of our 10-day trip! (We took many beautiful waterfall, glacier, ocean and mountain View hikes - everyone agreed this one was our favorite. Two adults, two teens.)
Eric was our tour guide. He was very friendly and knowledgeable. Walking with the krampons was easier than we thought. We were in a small group. Eric paused and gave us information at several spots along the way, which also gave everyone in the group time to take a quick rest and take in all the sights, and take photos. We felt safe and in good hands with Eric. So much fun! Thank you for creating wonderful family glacier hiking memories for us. Tips: Make sure you wear tall hiking boots that cover your ankles or you will have to rent a pair. Make sure to bring gloves even if it’s not very cold to protect your hands in case you fall. (We did not fall, but were warned that the ice with lava rock imbedded can scrap like sandpaper, thus strongly advised to wear gloves). Wear layers. We hiked on a nice partly sunny day in the 50s (F) in late June wearing fleece-lined water-resistant hiking pants and a lightweight long-sleeve base layer sunscreen top, lightweight merino wool jacket, lightweight puffer vest, and ear headband covers. We were plenty warm. I shed the puffer vest and ear band layers by the end. Our day back packs included wind/rain coats and pants in case we needed it. My waterproof hiking boots are not ankle covering so I had to rent theirs- theirs were very comfortable. They gave each of us 1 coupon to use their bathrooms, otherwise they are expensive pay bathrooms.

Really unique and...
Really unique and memorable experience to drive into a glacier, walk across the glacier, and see an ice cave. Gudjon was a great guide. Very patient with the group, and kept the tone relaxed. We learned about the glaciers and how the ice caves form, but not an information overload.

Highlight of the trip!
We had Gabriel (Gaby) as our guide and he was AWESOME. My mom isn’t super mobile/stable and he was so great to help her over anything somewhat iffy. He gave us great information on glaciers, ice caves, how Katla glacier has changed, and so much more. High energy, super knowledgeable, and fun to be around. The ice caves were unbelievable. The hike up there was relatively easy, but a little steep at parts, but worth every second of it. Stunning colors, views, and strength. Loved this tour so much!

What To Know Before
You have the opportunity to get wet so bring waterproof clothing and/or a change of clothes. Lunch was available at the Black Sand Beach Restaurant but it is a long day so bring snacks and water. You can leave your belongings in the van at each stop so you don’t have to worry about lugging around a large bag everywhere. For the glacier hike bring ankle supported hiking boots, otherwise you will have to pay about $15 to rent some when you get to the glacier. Our tour guide Sergei was so amazing and helped us so much during the trip! Overall it was an amazing experience and I would definitely recommend it!

Climb away! So fun!
Thanks to Daniel and Lucas--our terrific coaches and Glacier Climbing Guides--we had a once in a lifetime adventure! It was a challenging experience for sure (we are 50 and 57 years old), but absolutely doable for anyone relatively fit. Our gear was perfect to suit our needs and we enjoyed our time on the glacier. Again, Daniel and Lucas were fabulous!

The most magical day!
This tour far exceeded our expectations! We visited 5 beautiful locations and each one was better than the last. We absolutely loved getting to see places we wouldn’t have been able to experience without a super jeep and a guide! Thorsmork is beyond beautiful. The guide Simeon was wonderful - kind, knowledgeable and took great care of us. Lunch boxes (ordered separately from Midgard) were delicious and we highly recommend. We also had a great dinner at the base camp after the tour!

This was a really cool...
This was a really cool experience. Katla is the only ice cave that can be visited in the summer (when we were going), so we knew we wouldn’t get to do one of the big impressive ice caves but thought we should see what we could. The guide was nice and capable, and our group was able to get all the time we wanted to explore and take pictures (we collectively felt done after 30 minutes). It’s a process to get there and back, and unfortunately it was very rainy and foggy the day we went so we weren’t able to enjoy the views, but it wasn’t raining in the cave so it was still worthwhile. If you’re visiting in the summer and want to visit an ice cave, this is definitely the best option.

Amazing experience!
This was an amazing experience. Our guide was very friendly and knowledgeable. It is a bit of a trek up to the entrance of the ice cave but the guide paused in a few spots to let people catch their breath and to ensure everyone stayed together. It is not a trip for people with mobility issues or small children.

BEST Glacier Hike Tour in Iceland! 10/10
Our guide Lukas Was incredible! He was super organized, professional, fun, and took care to make sure that we were all safe and together at all times. His instructions and information were very clear and we learned a lot from him. It was perfect 10/10 experience. Can’t imagine it being any better. This was one for the record books. Would definitely recommend!

Just go for it!
Our guide Hannis was awesome! My Husband and I had a wonderful time exploring the black sand beach! Hannis made the experience worth it! He was also kind enough to take pictures of the people in the group and even suggest poses 😁
Iceland is a beautiful country and exploring it in our atv with the wind blowing upon our face was a exhilarating experience. Definitely recommend this tour!

Lava Show - Vic
Enjoyable & informative host who was able to simply explain the regions volcanic history. Lava (live) demonstration at the end with insights into how the region would evacuate if an active eruption required it. Well priced, about the right length, & easy / free parking.

Peaceful way to experience the glacier and ice bergs up close
This was a very peaceful way to see the glacier and ice bergs up close and away from the crowds. I really enjoyed the overall experience and tranquility of it. Our guide Carla Paz was very friendly, informative and easy going - loved having her as our guide!

Vik may not have an exciting name—it just translates to “bay” in Icelandic—but this town on the southern tip of Iceland is anything but boring. Sign a waiver, and within minutes, Vik tours will have you riding in a buggy along the black sand beach of Reynisfjara, exploring an ice cave under Katla Volcano, or snowmobiling above it on Mýrdalsjökull, the country’s fourth-largest glacier. Ziplining, paragliding, and kayaking (in a glacial lagoon) are all options if you go with a guide.
