The glacier lagoon is nothing short of extraordinary—an otherworldly landscape that feels entirely unlike anything I’ve encountered before. Walking across the glacier itself was a rare and memorable experience, offering a tangible connection to one of nature’s most powerful and ancient formations. Our guide brought the environment to life with a deep understanding of glacial formation, answering every question with clarity and a touch of well-timed humor that made the experience even more engaging.
The ice caves, while smaller in scale than some might imagine, are remarkable in their own right—intricate, ever-changing formations shaped by the forces of nature. Approaching the visit with realistic expectations is key; these are not vast, cathedral-like caverns, but rather intimate and striking natural features. With that perspective, the experience is deeply rewarding and well worth it.
Fantastic experience! Our two guides were outstanding — personable, safety‑conscious and genuinely attentive to each person’s comfort throughout the tour. They made the glacier walk and ice cave feel both exciting and completely manageable.
The pacing was ideal for mixed fitness levels, with plenty of time to enjoy the scenery without feeling rushed. A perfect way to experience Vatnajökull and learn about glaciers and ice caves in general.
Amazing experience, Stephan went out of his way to give our small group (6people) an individual experience. He avoided other tour groups doing similar excursions. And we had a significant amount of time in the blue ice caves without other groups. Additionally, this tour was more extensive than that of other operators.
It’s advisable that you’re a confident hiker and appropriately dressed.
Amazing tour and amazing guide! 5 out of 5 stars ⭐️
This is a must-do activity in Iceland—truly unforgettable! Don’t think twice about booking it, just be sure to plan ahead since it’s about a five-hour drive from Reykjavík. Make sure to pin the address on Google Maps before you go like the instructions state on their page.
There is a parking fee, but it’s valid until midnight, and you’ll be rewarded with beautiful views before heading off on this incredible adventure.
Our tour guide, Michal, was friendly, knowledgeable, and fun. I felt completely safe despite the weather conditions, which made the experience even more enjoyable. It was also great to support a small, locally owned business. The small group size made the tour feel personal and special. Michal is such an an amazing guide!!
This is absolutely a bucket-list experience! Thank you so much again!
This was a great experience! It's the 3rd time I've been to Iceland and the first time I've been able to do an ice cave tour, due to rain. It did not disappoint! Our guide Laura was WONDERFUL and explained the ice caves well. Apparently most people expect massive caves you can walk through, but they vary greatly every season due to rain and melting. They have to seek out new, safe caves every few weeks to take tourists through.
We had an excellent time navigating some of the new ones with Laura's help, and got some amazing photos. Would go again! Thanks Laura! :)
