Amazing tour guide!
Francesco was truly a delight, and we loved his sense of humor and expertise regarding the salt flats region, history; Marsala and its wine making history as well. I highly recommend this tour!

Unforgettable Sicilian experience!
Absolutely amazing day with Renato! He was such a fun, vibrant, and knowledgeable tour guide! We had a private tour and it exceeded our expectations. Everything from the Mercedes Benz bus, to the medieval tour of Erice, to the salt pans of Marsala, and of course, the INCREDIBLE winery tour and lunch, our minds and hearts were blown away! Thank you for an unforgettable Sicilian experience!

Excellent, meticulously planned tour!
An excellent tour, planned down to the smallest detail. Renato, both tour guide and driver, proved to be a very knowledgeable guide and an extraordinary driver. He displayed a friendly demeanor and exceptional knowledge of the subject matter. The wine tasting and presentation of local cuisine were a truly impressive addition to the tour. Overall, a very positive experience.

A great trip
Our driver, Guiseppe, was on time, pleasant, enthusiastic, considerate and informative. A good trip for those with limited time, but who want to "see it all". Communication with the tour operator and Guiseppe was excellent.

Great day to take in some history
The driver , Mimo, was great and the car was a late model and very clean .
Punctual pick up, cold water on demand and well laid out itinerary so that the walking parts were downhill with the car dropping us off near the top and then waiting at the bottom.

Really cool to see the...
Really cool to see the castle town of Erice, Salt pans, and winery in Marsala. The winery was certainly the highlight. Very welcoming service. Only thing was it is a lot of travel. We traveled more than our tour which, if expected, is completely worth the experience!

Wonderful tour with lots to see and learn!
This adventure far exceeded my expectations. Our guide was knowledgeable and passionate about the history of the salt flats. We learned so much that really changed the way we think about salt. The tasting at the end was an eye opener and was really enjoyable. We made some great new friends and had a great time.

Must visit
Segesta and Erice were beautiful sites to visit. There’s sufficient time allowed to enjoy the beauty of each site. I was fortunate to have a great driver too! Thanks for the concert Dario!

Absolutely perfect from start to finish with our driver, Dario Sileci
The highlight of the trip was Erice. One of the most gorgeous towns I have ever seen in Italy. Our driver Dario was charming, funny, extremely knowledgeable and very cautious and careful along our drive. I would choose him again when coming back to Sicily. Thank you Dario

People Also Ask
What is Marsala best known for?
Marsala is famous throughout the world for its eponymous dessert wine. The sweet concoction originates in this Sicilian port city, but there’s a lot more to Marsala than its ancient viticulture traditions. Located on Sicily’s western coast, Marsala is also known for its Baroque architecture, nearby Phoenician ruins, and World War II history.
What is there to do in Marsala?
Stroll through Marsala’s tangle of streets in the historic center. Don’t miss Porta Nuova, which marks the entrance to Marsala’s Old Town, and the charming Piazza della Repubblica, home to a Norman-era church, the Chiesa Madre. Head to the Baglio Anselmi Archaeological Museum to see the remains of a Punic battleship.
Can I swim in Marsala?
Yes. The entire coast surrounding Marsala is filled with swimmable beaches and sandy coves. You’ll find both free beaches—open to the public free of charge—and stabilimenti, which charge rental fees for umbrellas and chairs. One popular option is the Punta Tramontana di Marsala, known for its white sand and transparent water.
What does Marsala mean in English?
Marsala is an Arabic expression meaning “Port of Allah,” a testament to the Islamic influence that left its mark on Sicily. The island maintains a syncretic culture, and Sicilians consider themselves unique from mainland Italians. San Vito lo Capo, an hour’s drive from Marsala, even hosts a couscous festival.
Is Marsala expensive to visit?
That depends. Like most places in Sicily, Marsala offers a range of prices, from high-end to budget-friendly. You can eat in a swanky osteria or grab an arancino, a popular street food snack, from a takeaway counter. And don’t forget, walking through the picturesque and pedestrian-friendly Baroque center will cost you nothing.
What are the best ways to enjoy Marsala wine?
While Marsala is best known as a dessert wine, it is commonly enjoyed in Sicily as a pre-dinner aperitivo and a post-meal digestivo. Many restaurants in town offer unique food and wine pairings. For the ultimate wine-lovers experience, book a tasting and cellar tour at a local winery.
What day trips are there from Marsala?
Stagnone Nature Reserve is about a 20-minute drive north of Marsala’s historical center, almost halfway to Trapani (the nearest airport to Marsala). The unique ecosystem consists of salt pants and four islands, while the nearby archaeological site of Mozia contains ruins from the oldest Phoenician settlement in the Mediterranean.
