There’s so much to see at the Independence Seaport Museum. The museum hosts a range of themed exhibitions and a working boat shop where vessels are restored. It’s also home to the USS Becuna, a World War II–era submarine, as well as the USS Olympia, the world’s oldest floating steel warship.

The Independence Seaport Museum is partly accessible to wheelchair users. The main museum building is fully accessible, and comes complete with an elevator, wheelchair rentals, and accessible bathrooms and water fountains. However, owing to their historic design, neither the Becuna submarine nor the Olympia warship is accessible.

Yes, visiting the Independence Seaport Museum is worth it. Located in Philadelphia’s popular Penn’s Landing area, the riverside museum is unique in its maritime focus—and it has two historic vessels to explore, plus a working boat shop. It also boasts award-winning exhibitions and a destination-worthy museum store.
