A Fun Glimpse into Life in a Cairo Home
This was a fun experience, as interacting with locals and learning about what life is like there can be some of the most enriching activities when traveling. Ahmed and Shorouk gave a warm welcome and were eager to talk and share about their lives, as well as take an interest in their guests. Ahmed explained that one of the main reasons they started hosting these evenings several years ago was so that their daughters would have the chance to meet people from around the world, which I thought was really cool and a pretty neat idea. Ahmed and his wife both speak excellent English, so there was very little language barrier.
The food was plentiful and tasty, and included a handful of different typical Egyptian dishes for us to try. Shorouk did most of the cooking, and Ahmed also makes an excellent baba ganoush!
While we did help with some chopping and a few other prep tasks, I would view this as less of a cooking class and more of a "cultural evening". That was perfectly fine with me, just know that it won't be an intensive cooking class in the way that some are. This was more of a chance to visit a local home, meet a lovely family, and share a meal together. Sometimes it can be hard to find authentic experiences in heavily touristed areas, but this is the sort of activity that you're likely to remember for a long time after your visit.

Our food tour in Cairo...
Our food tour in Cairo was one of the absolute highlights of our trip. We got to try an incredible variety of Egyptian food far beyond what we ever would have discovered on our own. Every stop felt authentic and thoughtfully chosen, from tiny local spots to busy street vendors full of energy and amazing smells.
The amount of food was unbelievably generous, and every dish had its own story and flavor. We tried everything from freshly baked bread and savory street food to traditional desserts and drinks, and each one was delicious in a completely different way. It felt less like a tour and more like being shown around the city by a local friend who genuinely loves food and culture.
If you love food and want to experience the real side of Cairo, this tour is an absolute must-do. Come hungry, you’ll taste far more than you expect, and every bite is worth it.

Authentic Egyptian Food Tour With a Family
My wife and I had a great time, along with two couples from Lisbon, Portugal and London, England, respectively. Ahmed and his wife, Shorouk, and their 8-year old younger daughter, Maria, displayed absolutely fantastic “family hospitality” to my wife and I, and to the other couples. The authentic Egyptian food we tasted was great at each of the restaurants we visited, and the amount of food given to each of us was enough for an individual meal at each restaurant, except for the bakery, which we visited last. Ahmed and his wife and daughter were very engaging, and explained the importance of the food we ate to family and the Egyptian culture. Ahmed also made sure that one restaurant adjusted the food I was given to accommodate my dietary restrictions, which I greatly appreciated. My strong suggestion to future guests is to (1) come hungry and (2) limit the amount of food you eat at the first couple of restaurants so you will be able to eat and enjoy the food at the remaining restaurants. I am not a big eater normally, and I made a point to limit my intake at each restaurant so I would be able to enjoy the complete full tour. I knew I had struck the right balance with eating as I was able to eat breakfast the very next day without a problem. 👍🏾👍🏾👏🏾👏🏾💯💯🧽🧽
By the way, the tour started at 7pm and lasted until 10:30pm. However, Shorouck and Maria left the group after the second restaurant, so Maria could get ready for school the next day.

Best food tour in Cairo
I do a good tour almost in every city I visited and this was by far the best. Sameh was such an excellent host and it was so much fun. He's probably the happiest person I have met & all food vendors love him . Come hungry & expect the unexpected! 100% recommended!

Great local experience
Eat like a local! Our guide Amira is very experienced and took us to restaurants where Egyptians would definitely eat - breakfast, lunch, dinner and dessert. The drive through a crowded market where locals would get fresh fruits, veggies and meats gives you a glimpse of what daily life would be if you lived in Giza or Cairo.

Off the tourist beaten path
I couldn't have asked for a better way to spend the last afternoon of 2025! This Cairo Nights Food Tour was an absolute masterclass in Egyptian hospitality and local flavor.
Huge thanks to our guide, Joay! He was incredibly knowledgeable, friendly with our small group, my wife and myself, and made us feel like we were exploring the city with a local friend rather than just a tour group.
We wandered through the stunning backstreets of El-Darb El-Ahmar and El Gamaliya. Starting near the Al-Azhar Mosque provided such an atmospheric and historic backdrop for the evening. As a tourist you would probably not take those paths we did.
They aren't kidding about the 10+ tastings. From the smoky charcoal-grilled meats to the authentic local desserts, every stop offered something unique and delicious.

Eating Our Way Through Downtown Cairo
What an unforgettable food experience in Cairo! Every stop on this tour was bursting with flavour and authenticity. The hawawishi was absolutely mouth-watering — a deep-fried golden crust with perfectly spiced, juicy fillings. My son summed it up best by calling it “Egyptian pizza” 😄.
We then enjoyed foul sandwiches, with rich, slow-cooked fava beans tucked into warm, soft pita bread — simple, comforting, and incredibly satisfying. The highlight was finishing with koshari at the world-famous Abou Tarek, followed by a rice milk dessert that was the perfect way to cool down the tummy after the bold flavours of the koshari.
Portion sizes were extremely generous — we were pleasantly full and still took plenty of leftovers home!
A huge shout-out to Mohamed , our awesome guide. He was knowledgeable about every dish and expertly guided us through the busy, traffic-congested streets of downtown Cairo while sharing fascinating food stories along the way.
Highly recommended for anyone wanting to truly taste Cairo. One small request: please bring back the pigeon tasting to the street food menu — it would be an incredible addition!

Discovering Luxor Through the eyes of a True Expert
I had the pleasure of enjoying a private one-day excursion in Luxor with the Egyptologist guide Sam, and it was truly an exceptional experience. From the very beginning, he demonstrated great professionalism, punctuality, and an impressive depth of knowledge about ancient Egyptian history. His explanations at each temple were clear, engaging, and full of fascinating details that brought the monuments to life. Sam answered all my questions with patience and precision, sharing not only information but also his genuine passion and respect for Egyptian culture. He was attentive, kind, and made sure that every moment of the tour was comfortable and enjoyable. The itinerary was perfectly organized, allowing me to make the most of my time without ever feeling rushed. Thanks to Sam, my visit to Luxor became an unforgettable experience. I highly recommend him to anyone wishing to discover Egypt through the eyes of a true professional who clearly loves what he does. A big thanks to the driver as well!
