This heroic wine comes from vines that grow from lava soil and flourish on the rock. All the work is done manually and none of this has changed in 500 years, when the first settlers introduced grape growing in Pico. After our walk in the landscape of Pico Wine, to refresh our feet, we drive you to one of our favorite natural swimming pools, in an amazing setting or just lay down for a bit, exchanging more local stories and preparing your appetite for the next stop. Finally, we take to a wine tasting in a beautiful setting with an emergent and promising awarded independent local producer. You will experience all the landscape and history in your mouth!

Czar Pico wine is unique in the world, say wine critics and scientists! Its price can reach more than 1000€ per bottle, reflecting the History it carries and the risks taken by its producer: Fortunato, who owns some of the oldest Verdelho, centenarian vines. With a perfect balance between acidity & sweetness, Czar wines reach 18 degrees of alcohol exclusively from fermentation, differentiating it from liqueur and fortified wines (like port wine), to another category. The unique Czar wines! Because grapes are harvested very mature, strong wind or rain can tear these gold grapes to the ground and destroy all harvest. This year we are lucky! Fortunato just bottled the 2015 harvest and we have some from previous years exclusive for wine tastings. Aged for 8 years in oak barrels, limited to 1000 bottles. We saved some for you! The itinerary described below is my standard full day Highlights Tour, designed for those with limited time who still want to discover as much of Pico as possible. Over the course of the day, you’ll explore both the island’s iconic highlights and some of its hidden gems — from its rich wine culture and dramatic volcanic landscapes to its fascinating whaling heritage — giving you a deeper understanding of what makes Pico so unique. However, because this is a completely private tour, the itinerary is fully customizable to suit your interests and preferences. Enjoy the freedom to choose your pick-up location, adjust the pace, spend more time at the places you love, skip stops that don’t interest you, or add other places along the way. I can adapt the day to your group, making the experience more personal, relaxed, and flexible. With Art of Wine you will be able to have access to exclusive vineyards thanks to Fábio Rocha, the winemaker guide. You will have a winemaker showing vineyards, providing wine tastings and explaining all the particularities from this Unique Terroir that makes these wines so special and unique

Learn all about the past and present types of wine-making in Pico on this small-group half-day tour. You have convenient pickup in Madalena or the surrounding area, and then you head to Criacao Velha first. Check out the vineyards and *adegas,* or wine cellars and do some tasting. You also pass Picowines and Sao Roque do Pico, tasting more wine and learning about the golden wine age.
