What are people saying about Bern

Unlike our Zurich tour,...
Unlike our Zurich tour, our Bern tour was a home run! Early on we were contacted by the tour company to find out just what we did and didn't want to do/see. Also since we were coming to Bern via train from Zurich, we were able to arrange our "pick up" at a coffee shop just outside the train station.
We traded emails a few times with James, our tour guide, including one where he recommended a restaurant with a great view for lunch after our tour. We made the reservation and it was a great choice.
James was very friendly and knowledgeable about Bern, it's history, culture, neighborhoods and we saw the things that were of interest to us. He even arranged the tour so that we could see Bern's version of the famous Prague clock tower striking noon, which was fun. He had lots of anecdotal stories, was organized, yet flexible and very attentive. We had a very good time and really enjoyed the tour and our time with him.

Great sites
Our group totaled three couples. We booked separately, but didn't realize that was going to put us in different groups. It was a little bit of a mess up at first, but the two guides handled it great. Either way, don't book your group separate from each other. That said, the trip was amazing, and our guide, Elmo, was fantastic. He started by taking us to a map showing the evolution of Bern over the last couple centuries, and showed us breathtaking cathedrals and banking sites. We recommend this tour. It was also an easy train ride from Lousanne, but it was $36 each way per person.

The Best Way to Learn About Quality Cheese and Chocolate
My family loved all of the interesting facts about cheese making in Gruyères. The interactive tour was obviously geared towards children, but we all really enjoyed it (our daughter is 21). We watched the cheese being made in real time. The town of Gruyères was charming and we enjoyed the self guided castle tour. We had lunch at Chalet de Gruyeres and it was the best fondue we’d ever had. Then it got even better! The self guided audio tour at Caillers chocolate factory was really impressive. It was interactive and very informative, from the harvesting of the cocoa beans in Africa (and the way those farmers are treated) to their relationships with the dairy farmers, to the last step of packaging the final product. The taste testing was a big plus for us - so many to try, and so delicious!

Franca Lara was an...
Franca Lara was an outstanding guide. We booked a last-minute walking tour of Bern and, although the city is small, the two hours flew by—we easily could have stayed with her for three. She was knowledgeable, fun, and great at keeping our entire family engaged the whole time. Five stars for Franca.
A quick note on Viator: after we booked and paid, we were contacted and asked if we could change our reserved time/date. When you choose a specific slot, it’s usually because your schedule is tight, so that was frustrating. Thankfully, the tour itself was fantastic. Viator could improve the booking follow-up, but Franca’s guiding was truly excellent.

History found in a box of chocolates
This tour was great! We got a good sense of Bern’s city history and an eye opening and tasty history of chocolate production and Bern’s role in it. It was a gorgeous day to enjoy all of the sites we were taken to by our guide/owner. His knowledge and generosity made this a highlight tour among the several we took on our two week trip.

Wow! Doryan was an...
Wow! Doryan was an absolute treasure of a guide. He's a local, and knows all the hidden secret beauties Colmar has to offer. He also has a wealth of historical knowledge of the area, and was a delight to converse with. He tailored the tour to our interests (we are both architects), and we had a wonderful time.
Thanks so much, Doryan!

Bern walking tour
Our guide was wonderful! She went into a lot of detail. We had 12 people in the group and she managed to keep track of all. She’s from Mexico and has only lived here 4 years so it was amazing what details she provided. Unfortunately my husband and I can’t remember her name.
