We did this private small group tour in early July 2026. We had a total of six people, three of who had been to the Vatican before and three who had never been. For us, three hours was the perfect amount of time for this tour, no need to do something longer in our opinion. Plus, you can walk around St Peter's on your own for however much time you like once you are inside.
Rahul was a phenomenal tour guide! Since it was a private tour, he asked us at the beginning if there was anything we wanted to particularly see or focus on. In our case, we definitely wanted to see the Sistine Chapel, as well as the underground tombs and any "fun" things Rahul thought worth pointing out along the way. Rahul struck a great balance with our group and kept a comfortable pace, not too quick not too slow, and did not dwell too long in any one place (some tour guides focus a lot of time on their "favorite" items, which can waste time, this often can happen in the larger group tours). Rahul is also extremely knowledgeable about both the history as well as current practices at the Vatican, and he entertained all of our questions, usually with some interesting trivia.
The small group private tour is a bit more expensive than the larger group tours, but would highly recommend it if you can do it for the Vatican since it really is such a special experience. And we would agree with what many people say to go first thing in the morning, before 9:00 if possible. We met up with our tour guide at 8:00 so were able to be some of the first people inside that day. Going early is particularly critical in the summer months since it can get really hot (in our case, there was a heat wave, so it was crazy hot in the middle of the day) and really crowded once the cruise tours start showing up.
If you get Rahul as a guide you are in for a treat.

The tour to the Vatican, St Peter's Basilica and the Sistine Chapel was thorough, well planned and worth every penny. The sheer size of the square and St Peter's could be overwhelming without an experience guide. We had a very a passionate and experienced guide named Oreste and I highly recommned you request him if that is an option. There is so much to see and do that you really need a guide unless you plan on your own but you then need the tour to help shorten the lines and naviage to all 3 places.

Marta was delightful and so knowledgeable. She explained so much insight into the Vatican City, Museum, Sistine Chapel, and St. Peter’s Basilica. The architecture, murals, sculptures… everything was beyond our imagination and expectations. We came out of the tour wiser and felt like we had completed a history class.

Wonderfully sweet and knowledgeable guide. Elisa taught us a lot and you could tell she was very passionate about this part of Rome.

This is a must do tour when in Rome. Our guide was wonderful, knowledgeable, and friendly. I highly recommend taking this tour.

The guide started was half an hour after scheduled time, with around 2h of advanced notice. Overall it felt like more of another person walk with us rather than a tour. While he asked what element (religion, art, history etc) of the Vatican we are most interested in so he can focus on that, we dont know since it was our first time. I felt like there was an expectation that we have more input to the tour or maybe he was tired from a prior tour that ran late.

Nadya La Rosa was an excellent guide….very personable and knowledgeable. She moved at our pace, and we were lucky because we were only two persons.

While initially overwhelmed by all of the Vatican tour options, I’m so thankful I booked this tour. If you are on the fence, it is worth the investment! Rahul is a professional from start to finish. He uses proactive communication ahead of time in confirming meeting point and accessibility needs. His knowledge and educational background complement his tour guide expertise. He works with you to understand your interests and priorities for the day to maximize your time inside the Vatican. His experience with the situation/policies on-site at the Vatican was incredibly valuable to us as my mom has limited ability to walk distances, so we use a wheelchair. One of the most helpful things Rahul does is completely walk you through what you’ll see in the Sistine Chapel ahead of arrival. By showing us the sequential images on his iPad in the beginning where it is more quiet, you can absorb the information and know what to look for during your time inside (where no talking is allowed). We are already looking forward to coming back to Rome and we would book with Rahul again without hesitation!

WE had an amazing tour of the Vatican, Sistine Chapel, & St. Peter's. I have had several tours of these places previously but not as fabulous as this tour. Our guide was so knowledgeable about his tour and was super excited to share all of it with us. He has a true love for what he does and he made us excited to learn all of his mastery of the artworks, buildings, Popes, and so much more. I wish I could thank him again for a truly wonderful tour and making our day so special.

The Vatican was packed with people but because we went in high season. Our guide Alessandro was superbly lovely. I cannot say enough great things. It is a must see if you are in Rome. Stunning

We did the Vatican tour with Rosa. Totally worth the money we paid as it was just Rosa and the four of us. She was so knowledgable and personalized the tour around what we wanted out of it!! 5-star for sure!!

This is a fantastic tour. Well worth it. Felicia greeted us warmly. We moved through the line quickly to start our tour. She taught us about history, art, and architecture. My 11 yo was engaged the whole time and voiced that she enjoyed the tour. A private tour was perfect. We could maneuver easily and spend time on the elements of interest. I highly recommend this tour.

Our guide, Rajul, shared a wealth of knowledge as we toured the museums and basilica. He was particularly attentive to my companion who has mobility issues. Skip the line was also a huge plus! Highly recommended.

Federica was AMAZING! Her knowledge of everything we could think of was above and beyond. She made our experience so enjoyable as she helped us easily navigate the crowds and showed us the most important things. Highly recommend!!
Debra_C, Aug 2022
Our tour operator, Leo, was very knowledgeable and caring. One of our group got dizzy from the heat, and he was so gracious in helping her find a chair to cool off. The Vatican experience is highly recommended. When in Rome, you have to do it and the small group experience is the best. Large groups were all around us with earphones. So impersonal!!! This tour is the best by far.,
