The word cataplana refers not only to the utensil but also to the dishes that are prepared in it. The characteristics of this pan allow a wide range of dishes to be created that are a delight for all the senses and are good for one’s heart, as the cataplana enables little fat to be used in recipes. Throughout this experience, participants will have the opportunity to discover all the potential of the most iconic utensil in Algarve gastronomy, and will learn to make a cataplana with fish and shellfish.

This is more than just following a recipe — it’s about being part of the process from start to finish. At The Kitchen, you’ll learn by doing, feeling the textures, working the dough, and watching your Pastéis de Nata come out of the oven golden and warm. There’s a natural balance between learning and enjoying the moment. You’ll be focused when it matters, but there’s always space to relax, chat, and share the experience with others around you. We keep the atmosphere small, welcoming, and hands-on, so everyone is involved and comfortable throughout the class. And then, of course, comes the question we hear all the time: “Can we save them for tomorrow?” Our answer is always the same — these are the best Pastéis de Nata you’ll have, because you made them yourself… so eat them fresh. If you feel like having more tomorrow, you already know what to do — make them again. That’s exactly how we want you to leave The Kitchen: confident, proud, and already thinking about the next batch.

It starts with the sound of ice in the glass, the freshness of citrus, and your first sip of a Portonic — light, refreshing, and unexpected! Combining a Portonic cocktail with a Pastéis de Nata baking class creates a unique experience in Portugal — where tradition meets fun in a relaxed way. As the class unfolds, the atmosphere shifts from the clink of glasses to the smell of buttery pastry in the oven. Hands in the dough, conversations around the table, and that quiet anticipation as everything comes together. And then, the moment everyone waits for — your Pastéis de Nata, fresh out of the oven. Golden, warm, slightly caramelised on top. Where else have you ever tried Pastéis de Nata this fresh? They taste different when you’ve made them yourself. Better, somehow. By the end, it’s not just about what you’ve learned — it’s the feeling of having created something from scratch, shared the experience, and knowing you can do it again at home.
