Itineraries for Your Trip to Seminyak
1 Day in Seminyak for First Timers
When I visited Seminyak, I had just spent several months traveling Asia on a shoestring—staying in backpacker hostels and taking countless night buses—I was feeling ready for some sophistication. Thankfully, there’s no better place to satisfy an appetite for laid-back luxury than Bali’s bougie and bohemian epicenter. Seminyak Beach is fringed by glamorous beach clubs with infinity pools, while cool brunch spots, boutique hotels, and yoga studios populate the town’s center.
Seminyak also maintains the rich culture that makes Bali so appealing to travelers, offering a bit of everything all in one charming spot. If you’re visiting for the first time, here’s how to spend one day enjoying the best of Seminyak.
If you only have time for one thing, make it a street food tour; Bali’s cuisine brings together some of the best Southeast Asian flavors.
April–October is the dry season and the perfect time to sip cocktails in the beach clubs.
Spend your morning getting acquainted with some of southern Bali’s cultural and natural highlights on a sightseeing tour. Refresh with a swim in the 66-foot (20-meter) Tegenungan Waterfall (Air Terjun Tegenungan); pose for pictures in front of the UNESCO-listed Tegalalang Rice Terrace (Sawah Terasering Tegalalang); and swing by the Goa Gajah (Elephant Cave), a 1,000-year old cave temple adorned with carvings of mythological creatures.
Now that you’ve worked up an appetite, spend the afternoon feasting on Bali’s cuisine on a culinary tour. Jump in a cab for the 20-minute drive to Bali’s capital, Denpasar, to find the best selection of street food. Wander through rows of vendors and choose between local delicacies such as sate lilit (minced seafood satay), fried banana, Balinese salads, banana-leaf chicken, and nasi goreng (fried rice) or go with a guide who can help you overcome the language barrier.
Tonight, witness one of Seminyak’s famous sunsets on a catamaran cruise around Benoa Harbour. Admire white-sand beaches and coastal temples as you sail on the Indian Ocean while feasting on a buffet of local and international dishes. Once back on terra firma, grab your most glamorous outfit and head to a classic Seminyak beach club such as Potato Head or Ku De Ta, to dance until the early hours.
