1 Day in Punta Cana for First Timers

Curated by Kate Lowethwho always says "yes" to a beach day in Punta Cana.

I could easily spend a week in Punta Cana, but even a day there is paradise. My favorite visits to the easternmost tip of the Dominican Republic have been when I left my resort's live music and swim-up bar to explore the jungle and waters offshore.

With one day in Punta Cana, I highly recommend that you take advantage of the cooler mornings to visit Bavaro Adventure Park or head out on an ATV excursion, and then enjoy the afternoon reading a book at one of Punta Cana's best white sand beaches or checking out the sea life on a snorkeling tour. This 1-day Punta Cana itinerary for first-timers includes a bit of everything for a true taste of the island.

Punta Cana is typically warm and humid, with a chance of rain.

If you only have time for one thing, make it a snorkeling excursion.

Morning

With one day in Punta Cana, you'll want to venture beyond the beach, and the morning is the best time to do that (before the heat of the day takes over). The Dominican Republic's jungle is worth exploring via a 4WD vehicle as you follow your guide to hidden cenotes where swimming is the perfect reward. Most of these tours include stops to enjoy coffee and chocolate, two of the Dominican Republic's top products.

Afternoon

Now that you've had some time to explore the land, head to the sea. You'll find tons of water adventure available, from relaxing catamaran cruises with snacks and drinks to snorkeling cruises perfect for families. Book a small-group or private cruise if your crew includes nervous swimmers, or go for a party vibe if you are visiting Punta Cana with your friend group. You'll love seeing the stunning beauty of Punta Cana's beaches along the way.
