Itineraries for Your Trip to Barbados
3 Days in Barbados for First Timers
I only had one day on Barbados the first time I visited via cruise ship, and it left me wanting more. Luckily, I was able to return not too long after to spend more time exploring the stunning beaches, including Carlisle Bay and Bathsheba Beach. I also drove to the inner parts of the island to see some of the animals that inhabit it, and made it to the island's east coast to check out St. John's Parish Church. With three days in Barbados, you can balance your beach days and rum tastings with history tours, too. This 3-day Barbados itinerary for first timers has your vacation planned.
If you only have time for one thing, make it a sunset cruise.
Barbados is typically hot and sunny, though you should prepare for some rain.
On your first day in Barbados, learn about the Caribbean culture by tasting some Bajan cuisines on a food tour. You'll avoid the tourist traps and instead taste local dishes, such as flying fish and cou cou (the national dish, made of cornmeal and okra).
For another taste of the island, visit the Mount Gay Rum Visitor Centre, where you can learn about the rum making process and sample some fruity rum punch. This evening, head out to dinner to enjoy live music and a stunning sunset.
On your second day in Barbados, get out on the water for some snorkeling. Booking a glass-bottom boat excursion is a great option if you’re traveling with kids, or choose a tour that takes you to shipwrecks now inhabited by sea creatures.
Once you're back on land, spend the afternoon strolling around historic Bridgetown. You can visit cultural sites, such as National Heroes Square, view artifacts and maps at the Barbados Museum & Historical Society, or learn more about the island's history on a walking tour.
Swap Bridgetown on day three for lush jungle landscapes, including the Andromeda Botanic Gardens and Barbados Wildlife Reserve. For a real treat, head below ground to check out the stalactites at Harrison's Cave, the perfect spot to be on a hot day.
Spend your last evening taking in the coastline from the water on a sunset cruise. Before you say goodbye to Barbados, toast to a perfect vacation full of tasty food and days on the sand.
