The tour starts at the beautiful, sandy beach of Kalandos! After an equipment check and safety briefing by your certified guide, you’ll be ready to go! You’ll be paddling a distance of about 9 km. Along the way, the view from the neighboring Cycladic islands is breathtaking! We’ll embark on a scenic drive of about 30-40 minutes into the heart of the island. While traversing half of Naxos, you will immerse yourselves in some of the most breathtaking views this magical place has to offer. As we ascend, the horizon opens up in both directions, offering a rare and awe-inspiring sight of both the eastern and western coasts of Naxos. At this elevated vantage point, a secluded village comes into view—a serene oasis surrounded by lush, untouched nature. We’ll set off on a gentle hiking trail that leads to a hidden 20-meter waterfall, where you can unwind next to a serene pool surrounded by nature. The waterfall’s flow varies according to seasonal conditions. After soaking in the tranquility, we’ll have the option to visit a nearby village where a delightful traditional lunch awaits. Perfect for all skill levels, offering a unique opportunity to experience the true essence of Naxos while uncovering its hidden gems.

We start the tour by riding towards Glinado village and then Vivlos village where we admire the windmills and the mesmerizing views of the Aegean archipelago. We then descend towards the ocean, passing from beautiful countryside landscapes to arrive at Plaka area with the crystal clear water and the golden sand beaches. We ride along the coast and depending on the wind, if any, your guide will give you a few options to choose on which beach is more suitable for the swim of the day. As you hike all the way down to the river, the views of the nearby mountains as they blend with the deep blue of the Aegean are breathtaking! As soon as you reach the riverbanks, the landscape changes completely. The air is cooler, shady spots abound, and vegetation is rioting next to abandoned watermills, lagoons, and small waterfalls, while crabs and water turtles make their way at the water’s edge next to oleander bushes and plane trees. The trail ends in Eggares, an old, quiet farming village, where you’ll have the chance to visit one of Naxos’s oldest remaining olive mills, dating back to at least the late 1800s when it pressed locally-grown olives for the village community. At Eggares, we’ll share a great, leisurely meal at one of the village’s best traditional tavernas. Then our transport will take you back to your accommodations!

On your hike we will see the mountain fountains, the cave of Zas, which according to legend is the place where the young Zeus found refuge to avoid the vengeful wrath of Kronos. From the top of Zas we will enjoy the panoramic view that under good weather conditions encompasses the entire southern Aegean, from Crete to the Asia Minor coasts. We suggest 2 hiking options based on your personal experience. We have the easy and medium level options. In the easy option, the hike will start from the old church of Agia Marina and we will end up at the summit of Za. The duration of the route is approximately 3 hours. The 2nd and medium difficulty option starts from the fountain of Aries, we meet the Za cave and continue to the summit and then return to Agia Marina. The duration of the route is approximately 3 1/2 hours. The guide is a certified and local guide, and lives in Filoti which is located below the Za mountain. He has extensive experience of the area and historical knowledge.
