Day Trips from Lugano to Lake Lugano

See Switzerland and Italy from one incredible peak. This seamless, small-group journey begins with a brief train ride along the shores of Lake Lugano before boarding the star of the tour: the historic Monte Generoso Cogwheel Railway. For over 130 years, this train has been the only way to reach the spectacular 1,704-meter summit in style. At the top, the views are unrivaled. You’ll stand directly on the border, looking down at the lakes of Lugano and Como on one side, and the distant Alpine snowy peaks on the other. With a limit of 8 guests, you’ll enjoy a relaxed, intimate atmosphere. Your local guide handles all the logistics, leaving you ample time to explore the mountain ridges and enjoy a leisurely lunch at the famous "Fiore di Pietra", the stunning "Stone Flower" building designed by architect Mario Botta.

Escape the bustling city center with a walking tour through olive groves to the outlying village of Gandria, with return by boat. Meet at a convenient central location, then stroll the Sentiero dell'Olivo, taking in views of the almost Mediterranean landscape and listening as your guide shares insight into the region’s history. Explore the streets of Gandria, then relax as a boat transports you across the lake, back to Lugano.

Discover one of Switzerland’s most charming villages when you embark on this half-day tour to Morcote. Board your panoramic cruise in Lugano and sail across the lake, taking in the beautiful scenery, as you make your way to Morcote. Then, take a tour of the “Pearl of Ceresio” to see its baroque church, terraced cemetery, Scherrer Park, and much more.
