Katsumoto was featured in the 2003 Hollywood movie "The Last Samurai," about Saigo Takamori, a Kagoshima native. The tour will visit historical sites related to the end of his life, in which he lived with a samurai spirit until the end. The route will start at the top of a hill from where you can see the entire city of Kagoshima and walk down to the arrival point in the center of the city, the statue of Takamori Saigo. At Peace museum, as known as Kamikaze pilot museum, you can learn what was happening at the end of World War 2 in Chiran. The exhibits include four Kamikaze aircrafts, letters and testaments by the pilots, as well as photographs of 1306 pilot. On the way back to the starting point, we will make a stop at Bakken hill for the panoramic view of Mt. Kaimon and tea terraces. Chiran is also a well-known area for its premium-quality green tea.
