4 of us really enjoyed our tour with Tachi. His English is good. I don't really recommend going to Sakuarajima Island--we had to hire a car to get there which, with the ferry, tripled the cost of our tour. The island is interesting for its park with hot springs, but you don't really get any better views of the crater. If we had it to do over, I'd just spend the day at the Senga-en garden and Shiroyama Observatory. We would use Tachi again.

I appreciate your review. I would like to apologize about Sakurajima. You expected to see inside the crater, we could see the crater from closest point, but only outlook of the crater. Good tour for us as first time visitors. Saw several Temples and Shrines, went on the car ferry to the volcano, walked thru a beautiful garden, and visited a glassmaking shop. After viewing the volcano we stopped at the foot bath, which was a great experience with a nice view back to Kagoshima. The dedicated driver and van was really helpful, as the sites are spread out. The guide spoke good English and was able to explain the sites and answer our questions easily. A very good tour overall.

Kiyoko met us at our hotel and provided us with a wonderful tour of the highlights of Kagoshima. We saw the grounds of the former Shiroyama castle and she explained about the importance of the Shimadzu clan in the Edo period and their close ties to both the imperial family and the Shogunate. We toured Sengan-en which is the former vacation home of a feudal lord with tour of the living quarters and beautiful garden. The inside of the house is well worth seeing with many items of historical interest from the early part of the 20th century. This site also the birthplace of the Japanese Industrial Revolution with a separate area dedicated to that effort.
We finished by taking a short ferry ride to Sakura Jima island which is an active volcano. Kiyoko explained the geology of the area and hour Kagoshima bay was formed. The aftermath of several fairly recent (on a geologic time scale) eruptions can be seen. Seismology center was interesting as it can predict future eruptions. Wish we had had more time but we needed to catch a train to Kumamoto. Kiyoko was mindful of the time and accompanied us to the Kagoshima station. All in all a lovely time with a delightful guide. Highly recommend

Excellent guided tour with Kiyoko! We visited Seongan-en, the Japanese garden, the volcano Mt. Sakurajima and a couple of stops downtown. Kiyoko was very knowledgeable and planned a great day. Highly recommend!
