We are so glad we chose to do this tour originally we’d only planned on one night in Johannesburg however due to circumstances we ended up with extra time so we looked at a tour to taking in the city and the Soweto region. Themba was our guide and we were in good hands, he is very knowledgeable about the Johannesburg, It’s history, culture, traditions and troubles.There’s no sugarcoating the challenges the city faces . We stopped by local art gallery. We saw the rough side of the city taking us where the hop on hop off buses cannot ,learning of the functional and non-functionally of Johannesburg is an eye-opener, driving through the CBD, I’ll never forget it. We then visited Constitutional Hill the highest part of the city ,UNESCO World Heritage site ,former prison and military fort. Today it’s home to the countries constitutional court, but it’s dark cruel history towards all who were in prisoned here is ever present. Next we went to Soweto, a vibrant historical settlement originally established in the 1930s by the government. We drove down Villa Kazi Street past the Bishop Desmond Tutu‘s house and then to the former home of Nelson Mandela ,a beautifully restored museum. Just up the street we find the site of the infamous 1976 student uprising that highlighted to the world the injustice of apartheid. We highly recommend this tour and for us as our introduction to this country will be memorable. Thank you Themba showing us the Good, the bad and the ugly.
