The hip Glasgow West End is where classic and contemporary Scotland collide. Cobbled streets lined with grand Victorian architecture lead to coffee shops, boutique stores, art galleries, leafy parks, and restaurants. Ashton Lane is the area's heart, while Finnieston, Kelvinbridge, and Partick are among the UK’s coolest neighborhoods.

Named after Glasgow’s patron saint, St. Mungo Museum of Religious Life and Art focuses on six major world religions—Christianity, Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism, Islam, and Sikhism—and the sacred art they’ve spawned. The museum is set in a reproduction of a medieval building on the site of Bishop’s Castle and features a own Zen garden.

Formerly the offices of The Glasgow Herald newspaper, The Lighthouse is now home to Scotland’s Centre for Design and Architecture. The building itself was designed by Scottish architect Charles Rennie Mackintosh and today is a popular attraction both for its panoramic city views from a sixth-floor observation deck and for its exhibitions, workshops, and discussions connected to design and architecture.

Scotland’s Isle of Islay is a land of dramatic coastal scenery, vibrant bid life, and fine seafood, but it’s Islay’s distinctive smoky whiskies that really draws the visitors. Home to nearly a dozen working distilleries, including Lagavulin and Bowmore, Islay’s distinctive single malt makes it a bucket list destination for whisky lovers from across the world.

Set amid idyllic Ayrshire countryside in the village of Alloway, the Robert Burns Birthplace Museum celebrates the life and work of Scotland’s most famous poet. Though officially called a museum, the site is made up of several different attractions—a museum, a cottage, a church, and a monument, which together form Burns National Heritage Park.

Set atop the Ayrshire cliffs, this sprawling neoclassical mansion is one of Scotland’s most famous stately homes—it even appears on the back of the Scottish 5-pound note. Designed by 18th-century architect Robert Adam, Culzean (pronouncedCullane) boasts palatial interiors and grounds that encompass woods, follies, and even beaches.

Equipped with state-of-the-art interactive exhibits, an IMAX cinema, a planetarium, and a 416-foot (127-meter) observation deck, the Glasgow Science Centre will keep visitors of all ages engaged and entertained. The museum’s Science Show Theatre hosts live demonstrations so visitors can witness the magic of science firsthand.

Get a peek at the weird and wonderful aquatic species of Scotland’s lochs at SEA LIFE® Loch Lomond, one of Scotland’s top aquariums. In addition to local underwater highlights, visit seven themed zones featuring sharks, rays, otters, seahorses, a touch pool, an ocean tunnel, and more. The aquarium is a short drive from Glasgow.

Peek behind the keyhole of the home of Miss Agnes Toward, a Glaswegian shorthand typist who lived in this tenement house flat between 1911 and 1965. The frozen-in-time interiors include a coal-fired stove, functioning gaslights, and Miss Agnes’ personal effects including clothes, photographs, letters, and recipes.

A Glasgow gem, the Burrell Collection is a treasure trove of 9,000 objects collected by Sir William Burrell, a shipping merchant, and his wife, Constance Burrell, who gifted their collection to the city in 1944. A visit to this eclectic collection reveals the depth of the Burrells’ passion for collecting.

Set within Glasgow University, The Hunterian (Hunterian Museum and Art Gallery) showcases the once private collection of former student and 18th-century anatomist and physician, Dr. William Hunter. Among the eclectic assortment of objects and art are pickled organs, Roman artifacts from the Antonine Wall, and a collection of works by James McNeill Whistler.

Get a peek behind the bars of a mid-19th-century jailhouse and courtroom at Inveraray Jail, one of the best-preserved prisons of its kind in the world. Inveraray Jail opens the door to Scotland’s grim and grisly past with costumed actors, interactive exhibitions, and real-life stories from former convicts.

Glasgow Cruise Port (Greenock Ocean Terminal) is the gateway to the west coast of Scotland. Multiple different cruise lines call into port here, including Princess Cruises, Royal Caribbean, Holland America, Azamara, Saga, and more, making it easy to head out on such excursions as whisky-tasting or exploring Scotland’s biggest city.

Perched dramatically on the Firth of Clyde coast in Scotland, the ruins of Dunure Castle appear to tumble into the Atlantic Sea. The castle’s gruesome history—the last abbot of Crossraguel was notoriously roasted on a spit here—attracts history buffs and ghost hunters alike, while its rural location promises no crowds and natural panoramas.

The historic mill village of New Lanark was once a beacon of social conscience in the Industrial Revolution—today it's a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The refurbished factory, warehouses, houses, and school are home to a wealth of attractions, from educational rides to a roof garden.

With rugged mountains in the north and gentle rolling hills in the south, the Isle of Arran encapsulates the diverse beauty of the Scottish landscape. Visitors will find an array of attractions, including Neolithic standing stones, pretty fishing villages, castles, whisky distilleries, and beaches, as well as numerous hiking trails.

The Clydeside Distillery opened in the old Pumphouse of Glasgow in 2017. Owned by the Morrison family, who have generational ties to Glasgow’s docks and other distilleries, the distillery launched its first bottle of single malt whisky in 2021. Today, the Clydeside Distillery hosts a café with whisky flights and food and is open for tours.

Wellpark Brewery is the home of Tennent beer, Scotland's best-selling beer. Since it opened more than 450 years ago, Wellpark Brewery has become the largest beer attraction in the United Kingdom, one of the oldest breweries in Scotland, and one of the oldest continuously operating businesses in Glasgow. It’s located within the Tennent Caledonian Breweries building.

Rising from one of the largest areas of flat ground on the Isle of Arran, the Machrie Moor Standing Stones (Machrie Moor Stone Circles) are a tangible representation of the island’s long human history. There are six stone circles, dating back to around 2,000 BCE, which stand on the sites of earlier wooden structures believed to date from 4,500 BCE.

Perched on a mere spit of land extending into Loch Ranza off the northern tip of the Isle of Arran, Lochranza Castle is a rather forlorn-looking, ruined L-plan tower house. It dates from the 13th century, though it was remodeled and expanded in the 15th century. The castle is steeped in Scottish history and forms a stunning sight.

Near the heart of Glasgow, the 18th-century Pollok House showcases the city's artistic legacy. The Georgian mansion is famous for its art collection, which includes works by Blake and Goya. Surrounded by picturesque gardens, the house offers a glimpse into the extravagant lifestyle of the Maxwell family, who lived there for generations.

Perched on the banks of the Clyde River, Geilston Garden is a 200-year-old walled garden surrounded by woodlands and wildflowers. The small country estate looks as if it’s been taken from the pages of a Scottish fairy tale. It's most famous for the huge Wellingtonia tree that stands in its center and its exquisitely kept gardens.

Close to Glasgow, David Livingstone Birthplace is dedicated to preserving and discussing the legacy of one of Scotland’s best-known explorers. The museum is home to an internationally significant collection of Livingstone’s belongings and an exhibition that charts his life, from his birth in Scotland to his death in Zambia.
