It’s a good idea to carry change and small bills when traveling in Mexico, as cards aren’t always accepted.
Be sure to sample traditional Chiapan fare such as tascalate (a sweetened corn- and cacao-based drink) or tamales with chipilín (a plant found in southern Mexico).
The temperature in Comitán is generally cool and comfortable; pack layers and a light jacket.
Comitán may not be entirely accessible for wheelchair users, due to raised sidewalks, narrow streets, and colonial buildings.
