- Please Note; from 23rd March- 27th September 2026 (except for selected dates) the North York Moors Railway will not operate on Thursdays and Fridays during the 2026 season. On these days, our tours will include entrance to the iconic Whitby Abbey instead. Please call the office for further details.
- Due to the nature of the out tours, we cannot wait for customers who arrive at their tour start point late. If you are late for your tour, our cancellation policy applies. 100% charges are applicable and you will not be entitled to a refund or alternative.
- Please note due to a prominent Bike race in the area on September 5th - the tour will follow a different route than we typically do. This will not affect your attractions or the length of your tour.
- Please note that the North York Moors Railway has a private event on 24th- 27th September. On these days, our tours will include entrance to the iconic Whitby Abbey instead.

Spectacular tour with breathtaking views. Our tour guide John was amazing. He shared so much interesting information on the area. But I think our entire group just really appreciated his happy nature. Definitely take this tour if you can. 100%worth it!!!

Excellent tour. Ben A was our driver and he had tons of good information, not just scripted corny jokes you might get on other tours. Byland Abbey was an unexpected highlight. It was Sunday so we didn’t do the train but were given tickets to Whitby abbey instead. Moors were gorgeous. Only letdown was how crowded Whitby was on a Summer Sunday.

So much beautiful scenery and fun anecdotes! But it was a lot of time on the bus/train. We found ourselves wanting more time at our stops to explore and thought maybe the scope was too much.

John was brilliant! He provided important details and fun trivia during the entire trip. We had a lovely time! One thing to note is, if you’re getting on the steam/diesel train to Whitby, there’s a chance of delays which cuts back on your remaining time for the tour plus delays time going back to the city centre.

Fantastic day trip from York! I was visiting my nephew, who has lived in York for three years, and has wanted to venture to Whitby. This trip included more sights than we expected. Our driver/tourguide, Kevin, was amazing - knowledgeable, kind, and had a great sense of humor. Every stop on this trip was wonderful. The ride on the steam train from Goathland to Whitby took us back in time. Our only recommendation is to include another hour in Whitby! 😊 There’s so much to see there. We explore the Abbey, had a pint at the Whitby Brewery, browsed the Jet shops, and had delicious fish & chips at Trenchers (takeaway due to time). Go on this tour with Mountain Goat Tour, you will not be disappointed!

Really well organized trip. We saw so many things - an abbey, the moors, took a train to Whitby and also spent 2 hours in Whitby. We learned a lot about Yorkshire from our tour guide Barry. I can only recommend him

This was a really fun day. Our driver/guide Steve was interesting and friendly and funny. We got to see the Yorkshire Moors, ride an old-fashioned, steam train, and stood at the platform that served as the Hogeade Station in the first Harry Potter film. We also spent a couple of hours at Whitby, a charming town full of history, with a ruined Abbey that has some Dracula connections. Definitely worth the trip!

This small group day trip was excellent! Our driver/tour guide, Steve was terrific!! His historical stories, humor kept us all entertained thru out the trip. We took one of his suggestion to eat lunch at a great seaside restaurant in Whitby. One of the surprises of the trip was the Gothland train station & a ride in the steam train! The beauty & sites of the whole trip was quite memorable. This day trip was worthwhile.

Bob was informative & very friendly. He drove on smaller roads very safely to show places of interest. The minibus was comfortable & air conditioned (the weather was hot!). Plenty of time at each stop & made it clear when to return.

A nice day out in Yorkshire and good introduction to the area. The tour includes a variety of experiences from seeing ruined abbeys to walking the moors to a visit to seaside Whitby. Steven, our guide, really made the experience for me. His wit, charm and interesting stories livened up the driving portions and helped them fly by. My only change would be to make the train ride optional, as it was cute but wasted an hour that could have been better spent with a longer moor walk or more time in Whitby.

Fantastic all around. Our guide was friendly, knowledgeable and was a gifted storyteller. We stopped at multiple off the beaten track places- ancient churches, ruins, villages. This tour had it all for those wanting historical context and a trip to the Moors and Whitby on the sea.

Beautiful tour through the North Yorkshire Moors to Whitby seeing lovely sites along the way. Ancient Byland Abby ruins, St Gregory’s Minster, and Blakey Bank overlook were all beautiful. David was extremely knowledgeable of the history and made the day very enjoyable. Would highly recommend.

Great day. Our guide / driver Steve was very knowledgeable and gave lots of interested information throughout the day. Coach was very comfortable. Would have liked to have done the train trip but it wasn’t available on the day of our trip.

Enjoyed a wonderful Day Tour…Barry was our driver/guide. Enjoyed all of his commentary and good English humour. The tour was a good pace…unfortunately the train component was cancelled due to bank holiday weekend. However, we were able to spend some additional time in Whitby.

Unfortunately we misunderstood the directions as to where to meet the bus to start the tour or perhaps we could have been informed of the meeting place earlier to give us more time to locate the exact location. We were in the area but on foot so were late by the time we figured out the correct location. We were extremely disappointed to miss the tour. We were on a Viator tour in Salisbury 4 years ago and it was excellent.

The pick-up point is stated on all bookings, and we also send all passengers a pre-arrival email the day before departure with the meeting details. If you booked through an online travel agent such as Viator, you should also have received pre-tour booking information including the departure point.
We ask all passengers to arrive at least 15 minutes before departure to help ensure a prompt start, as unfortunately we’re unable to wait for late arrivals when travelling with a full bus of 16 passengers.
We are sorry this affected your experience on this occasion, and we do hope to welcome you on another tour in the future.
