- Please Note: From - 28th March- 25th April 2026 Due to ongoing repairs to the full railway line at Goathland, the planned train journey from Goathland to Whitby is not currently possible. Instead, the tour will now include a train ride from Pickering to Goathland. As a result of this, your return to York may be slightly later than originally scheduled, with an expected arrival time between 17:45 and 18:00.
- Please note that the North York Moors Railway have a private event from June 11th-14th. On these days, our tours will include entrance to the iconic Whitby Abbey instead.
- Please Note; from 23rd March- 27th September 2026 (except for selected dates) the North York Moors Railway will not operate on Thursdays and Fridays during the 2026 season. On these days, our tours will include entrance to the iconic Whitby Abbey instead. Please call the office for further details.

Spectacular tour with breathtaking views. Our tour guide John was amazing. He shared so much interesting information on the area. But I think our entire group just really appreciated his happy nature. Definitely take this tour if you can. 100%worth it!!!

This tour was phenomenal! Barry provided so much varied and interesting information about the land, history, agricultural history, trees, farming, I was making lots of notes. Makes me want to come back for longer. I’d highly recommend this tour.

Our guide, Barry, was excellent. We were given so much relevant information throughout the whole tour. Barry was very friendly and was always ready to answer questions with a smile. We would definitely travel with Mountain Goat tours York again, especially if Barry was to be our guide.

This was such a great tour. We stopped at a couple of bonus places not listed on the itinerary and saw so many beautiful things. Ben was a knowledgeable guide, and Bob made sure we got everywhere safely. We saw so many pheasants and grouse, we lost count! We were surprised to find out that the tour also included a steam train ride. What a great day!

This was an absolutely wonderful tour through the Yorkshire Dales, the Moors, and Whitby. Some of the most beautiful countryside I’ve ever seen in my life—rolling hills, charming villages, and breathtaking views at every turn. Our guide was fantastic and shared so much fascinating history along the way, which made the experience even more special. I learned so much while enjoying some of the most peaceful scenery imaginable. Highly recommend this tour to anyone wanting to experience the real beauty of Yorkshire.

Steve was amazing.
He knew so much the area, I learnt a huge amount in a small space of time.

I didn't feel rushed at all, could ask as many questions I wanted.
The mini bus was clean and comfortable.

Our tour guide, Steve, was the sweetest person ever. He was VERY educated on the different sites and history. We did enjoy driving through the Moors, it was such a great experience. Byland Abbey was also great to explore. I wish we had a little more than 15 minutes to fully explore it though. We did stay in Whitby for 3 hours which I feel was a little excessive. 2 hours would have sufficed. Otherwise, great tour.

This tour will take you to a couple of beautiful point in Yorkshire Moorland Highland, such as abbey, cathedral, and English Village/town. As the day of our tour was extremely foggy, we cant see much in term of Moorland scenery. However, our guide John still does his best in taking us to place that is still worthwhile to visit and giving us extensive history of Yorkshire. Whitby the seaside Port Town was the highlight of the tour for me.

We had the best day on the North York Moors & Whitby tour yesterday! John was an excellent guide, super knowledgeable and we learned so much from him along the way. We were also lucky enough to have glorious sunshine, which made the beautiful Yorkshire countryside look even more amazing.
We loved exploring the pretty village of Helmsley, and Byland Abbey was absolutely stunning. The Moors were gorgeous too, such dramatic scenery! Then it was on to Whitby where we visited the breathtaking Abbey with incredible views over the coast and the town below. We made our way down the famous 199 steps and treated ourselves to the best fish and chips we’ve had in ages at Mr. Chips. I even came home with a little piece of Whitby jet as a souvenir!
All in all, a fantastic experience, highly recommend this tour to anyone. Thank you John and Mountain Goat Tours!

The tour was excellent but I almost missed it (and I hold Viator responsible). I booked the tour months in advance and on Jan 15th (9 months before the date of the excursion) the tour operator emailed me directly to advise of the change in pick up location and the next day another email arrived to advise an earlier pick up time.
Nine months pass and on the day of the excursion I check the Viator app (old location and pick up time) because who the heck remembers an email 9 months old. I went to the original pick up point 30 minutes early and thankfully another tour operator going to the same destination told me where my group was meeting. I had 5 minutes to run quite a distance to catch my group (thankfully the operator telephoned me and I was able to say I was on my way and they waited). Had I missed this tour I would be looking to Viator to refund my money! You need to up-date your site when your vendors change things. Shame on you!
I always recommend Viator but in this instance you dropped the ball.
