One of the highlights of our entire 2 weeks in Cambodia!
Ray is such an incredible guide, with so much historical knowledge and personal experience that he so generously shares with his guests.
He is an incredible story teller with impeccable self-taught English, and at each site we went to Ray was able to make history come to life with his personal anecdotes, historical knowledge, and sharp humor.

We initially just booked the half day country side tour that went to the elephant cave, salt fields/secret lake, and pepper plantation.
For the pepper plantation Ray took us to a plantation that was family owned rather than the big foreign owned touristy one which we really appreciated.

By the end of this half day tour we felt like we still wanted to explore more and hear more from Ray, so we ended up adding on a trip up to Bokor mountain (this is listed as a second booking on Viator).
It was a very worth-while addition, with a completely different atmosphere and quite a few historical landmarks on top.

Overall, a wonderful way to spend a half or full day in Kampot with your expert local guide Ray :)

Okay Tour…nothing exciting

Karina_R, Apr 2026
Our guide Roy was lovely. He was funny and made us laugh. The Tuk Tuk ride was a great way to see the countryside. The Secret Lake wasn’t a secret and just a roadside lake. The Salt Fields were just water ponds. The Cave was just a Cave. The Pepper Farm was an interesting 30 minute tour. Overall we enjoyed it. The tour was only 4 hours not the 5-6 as stated. Most of that was sitting around.

Great activities

Wandon, our tuk-tuk driver, also acted as our guide. He had a great sense of humor, spoke fluent English, and knew the sites we were going to visit perfectly, and much more. I highly recommend him. Be prepared, however, for a bumpy road to reach the cave.

Excellent tour

Mara_B, May 2025
We had a private tuk tuk tour with Roy who was a fantastic guide - he was very punctual to pick us up, was very knowledgeable and spoke excellent english. We were not rushed at any stop and we found each stop very interesting. We enjoyed our tour so much we booked Roy again for the next day to take us to the Bokor National Park which was also excellent. We would highly recommend both tours with Roy.

Secret lake?

Christopher_C, Feb 2025
Ok trip but what’s with the secret lake? It’s next to a fairly busy road and is man made. Pepper farm was good

Response from Host, Feb 2025

Thank you very much for your rating and sharing your experience with us here. Secret Lake was named by a foreigner. Why do they call it Secret Lake? Because it is not a natural lake; it is a dam lake by Cambodian people during the Khmer Rouge regime. A lot of people died by this lake. So we call Secret Lake, whose real name is Broteak Krola Lake.

Worth the money!

Fun in Kampot!

Sarai_R, Jun 2024
Roy was amazing! He picked us up from our hotel and we started our day with Salt fields. Make sure to ask him about his own experience working on the saltfield ;) The pepper farm was the best and I highly recommend the pepper ice cream. Roy also offered to take us to Kep for lunch which was amazing. If we had another day here we would have also went to Bokor Mountain with him. He's super friendly and we had no trouble communicating. I highly recommend Roy!

Excellent! You should definitely take this trip

Simon_W, Apr 2024
This trip was absolutely brilliant. It was really nice to get out into the countryside and to see how people live. To get to the temple cave we had to walk through a working crop farm and it was great to watch them at work. There are quite a few steps to get up to the cave itself, but it was the heat more than the amount of steps that made it challenging (I went in April which is the hottest time of the year). If you take this trip, I advise you to come back out of the cave via the steps, rather than going further into the caves to get out as its really slippery and dangerous with lots of big drops. Also, if you visit in the dry season remember to bring a face mask or something to cover your mouth and nose as the dust is quite bad on the roads. I also enjoyed the pepper farm where they give you a guided tour through the plantation, and then take you for a sampling session with all of the products that they produce. They also have a shop onsite that sells everything that they produce on the plantation. The products are a little pricey, but at least you know where the money is going, and they are very high quality. I would definitely recommend this trip if you like getting out into the countryside away from the city centre, and enjoy some peace and tranquility. Also, the tour guide was really nice and polite, and he stopped to buy us some freshly squeezed sugarcane juice, which was delicious.

Good tour whilst in Kampot

William_G, Apr 2023
Pretty much as expected. Unfortunately it had been raining so couldn’t see anything on the Salt fields but the guide Roy still gave a great explanation. Unsure why it it is called a secret lake as this was in no way a secret! The temple was very interesting and unsurprising that it was small as it is older than Angkor Wat. The best part was definitely the plantation very interesting to learn about the Kampot pepper. Also very happy with our guide Roy who was very friendly, courteous and spoke great English.

Pepper Plantation Was Great

Dennis_G, Feb 2023
The plantation tour and learning about growing pepper was great. Enjoyed going to the Cave. The Road going to the plantation and cave is rough and dusty. It's a good idea to bring a dust mask. The secret Lake and salt farm are a little weak. Definately worth the trip for the Pepper Plantation.

Nice trip

Rose_Y, Dec 2022
Nice trip yet the road is too bumpy and dusty ,must wear mask glass hat ; Impressed the salt field especially under sun. La plantations learned knowledge of different peppers

Salt fields, pepper farms and caves

Grace_E, Nov 2022
Enjoyed the tour. Tour guide was knowledgeable and funny. I was there towards the end of the rainy season so the salt fields were not active yet. Enjoyed my visit to the pepper farm.

Bien mais cher

Marion_M, Nov 2024

Response from Host, Nov 2024

Merci! (Google Translate) Dear Sir or Madam! We are sorry for disappointing you with our driver for an extra charge. For any additional services or extra charges, it is not related to us. It is an agreement between you and the driver. One more thing: you should not compare the price between Siem Reap and Kampot or Kep. It is a different location and a different price. Kampot and Kep are about 20 km apart, and a round trip is 40 km, and the regular price is $15 for 1 way per tuk-tuk. One more thing: all add places with additional charges must be agreed upon between clients and drivers before the start. We do not force any clients to pay an additional charge. Thanks!
