Our guide was very knowledgeable and motivated us throughout the hike. It's 16km both ways and the village and the views were great. He also recommend a good local restaurant to us where we got good food.

Pros: hiking guide was good.
Cons: They put the 3 of us in the back of a VW golf, not exactly comfortable. Also, the driver sent us through twisty roads as fast as possible. I've never felt so nauseous.
The lunch was overpriced and was probably the worst one I've had in 2.5 months of traveling. We got about 5 grams of meat, some tomato stew, and some donuts. Would skip. Also I believe I got food poisoning from it.
Also at $89/pp I felt it was quite expensive for essentially a shuttle to the hiking start point.

The Lukomir day hike was absolutely something I really wanted to do during my trip to Sarajevo. Our group was quite small, so everything went smoothly. The drive there took maybe 1,5 hours, and the pace during the hike was very slow, so no difficulties there. You can do the hike either as a circle trail, or you can go to the village and come back via an easy trail. I’m happy that we took the circle trail and also saw the top of the mountain Obalj. The views are breathtaking, and the trail is very beautiful as it is. Our guide was friendly and spoke excellent English. Just be prepared that if there are Bosniaks on the tour, they will speak only Bosnian among themselves, not English, even though it should be an English speaking tour. Otherwise, I can highly recommend this tour to almost anyone.

Thank you for sharing such a detailed review!
We’re so glad to hear that the Lukomir day hike lived up to your expectations and that you enjoyed both the circle trail and the stunning views from Mount Obalj. It’s wonderful that you found the hike smooth, the scenery breathtaking, and your guide both friendly and fluent in English.
We also appreciate your note regarding the language use within mixed groups—your feedback is valuable, and we’ll keep it in mind to ensure the experience remains as inclusive as possible for everyone.
Thank you again for your recommendation, and we hope to welcome you back for more adventures in Bosnia and Herzegovina!

Must do experience in Sarajevo given the hike is so pretty with a magical landscapes as well as getting to see most remote town in Bosnia. ! It is tiring given u come back at 5:30 - 6 pm after hiking the whole day. The guide was super friendly and waited patiently for us a lot when we needed rest . Ensure you check weather to see if it’s a good day or else they might cancel your given the finicky nature of weather in mountains

I booked this tour, but the company recommended changing it to another one because of the weather. I went to srebrenica wit Ago and it was a great experience to know more about this dark history
Response from Host, Apr 2025
Dear Lucas,
Thank you for your thoughtful review! We’re glad to hear that even though the weather led to a change in plans, your experience with Ago on the Srebrenica tour was meaningful and insightful. Understanding the darker chapters of history is important, and we’re happy that you had the opportunity to explore it with us.
We hope to welcome you again for more enriching tours, whether it’s hiking, snowshoeing, or diving deeper into Bosnia’s history!

Small group, friendly and quiet guide Alan told us some interesting facts about the villages Umoljani and Lukomir and the area in general and also told about his personal biography living in Sarajevo. It was nice that lunch was included. Really good homemade Burek at Lukomir.
Alan is extraordinary helpful.

Amer (guide) an me went for a hike (13 degrees end of Dec) to Lukomir ~15km / 400hm. It was a wonderful day- warm breeze and moderate hike trail. I appreciated his company, being very friendly and open to talk about nature, food and other topics. I think we did the hike a bit faster than average. 👌 there was enough time for pictures, snack breaks and stops in the way. Lukomir was empty at this time but we had a fantastic lunch break after the hike 👍🏼 I had a great time - thank you, Amer!
Response from Host, Feb 2024
Dear Julia,
That sounds like an incredible adventure! It's wonderful to hear that you had a great hiking experience with Amer to Lukomir, even in December. The warm breeze and moderate trail must have made for a delightful day.
Exploring an empty Lukomir and having a fantastic lunch break afterward adds a special touch to the experience. Thank you for sharing your positive feedback, and we're glad to hear that you had such a great time. If you ever plan to explore more, don't hesitate to reach out.
Greetings from Sarajevo

Very interesting trip out of Sarajevo and into the mountains to the highest and most remote village. This trip takes a long time but it is worth it if you want to see something completely different. The views are amazing, and the village life is fascinating. If you do not like long drives on windy roads, or are prone to car sickness this might not be the best choice for you. Our guide was very patient and took us on a wonderful journey for the day, stopping first at the former Olympic high jump site, and then up high into the mountains. We tasted some local village bread and cheese, and were able to spend some time walking all around Lukomir Village.
