Make your way to a centrally-located meeting point where this tour begins, then join a guide and group for a trip through Sarajevo war sites and landmarks. Get an overview of the city from a panoramic overlook, and learn the basics of the Siege of Sarajevo, which stretched from 1992 to 1995.
Continue to a cemetery where victims of the war are buried, and learn what life was like during the siege, as residents coped with scarce food, water, electricity, and gas. Visit some of the city’s main landmarks, many of which sustained heavy shelling: see City Hall and the National Library of Bosnia and Herzegovina, then pass the National Museum, the Presidency Building, Skenderija Market, and the Zetra Olympic Hall.
Walk through Sniper Alley, and along tunnels used during the war. This tour includes admission to the Tunnel Museum, whose exhibits tell the story of the conflict, including a video about UN intervention during the Siege of Sarajevo. After visiting the Tunnel Museum, drive back to your original departure point, where this tour concludes.

I had the privilege of visiting the Tunnel of Hope Tour – Survival and Resilience in Sarajevo on 23rd February 2026, and it was one of the most powerful and moving experiences I’ve ever had.

We had an excellent Tunnel of Hope tour in Sarajevo with our guide, Safet. He was extremely informative and knowledgeable, answering all of our questions with patience and detail. We learned so much from him—not only about the history of the tunnel and the war, but also about the resilience of the Bosnian people. Safet also gave us wonderful recommendations for local food and cafés, which we really appreciated. This tour is a must-do in Sarajevo, as it’s vital to understand the struggles Bosnia endured in order to truly appreciate its beauty today. We highly recommend taking a tour with Safet!

The guide or should I say historian was fantastic, he gave us so much firsthand information. The drive there and back was so interesting as he told us about the war and also about Bosnia today. The tunnel was great and gave us a feel for the experiences of those involved in making the tunnel and those using the tunnel. We came away so much better informed with a lot to think about.

There was so much more to this trip than we thought. We thought we were just going to be taken to the War tunnel museum and then return but we had so much information from our incredible guide. He had first-hand knowledge of the war and the tunnel and remembered so many statistics to share with us. He pointed out some key places whilst driving to the tunnel which helped us for the rest of our holiday. The tunnel museum was very interesting and a must-do when visiting Sarajevo.

Great guide with authentic storytelling, integrated short city tour was helpful, many new impressions on my second visit to the tunnel - even if now the original tunnel cannot be entered anymorw due to safety issues, the "new" one gives a good impression...impressive afternoon!

We ended up with a private tour as no one else booked on this trip. It was excellent. The guide, an ex-police officer was so knowledgeable as he had lived through the Siege of Sarajevo so we benefited from his first-hand knowledge. This was the third time we have visited the tunnels but we still learned more.

This was an excellent guided tour of the War Tunnel / Tunnel of Hope constructed under the airport runway to smuggle in supplies during the siege of Sarajevo (1992-1996). Apparently the UN had knowledge of the tunnel but because it started in a nondescript house, the enemy did not.
Our tour guide was a war veteran and former police officer. Having lived through the siege, not only did he have great historical knowledge but personal experience too. He recounted many stories and facts and was very open to questions. He let us go at our own pace and the trip extended beyond the 2.5 hours. We also had time to walk through the replica tunnel - constructed because the real tunnel is not accessible for security reasons (it runs under the runway of an operating airport), plus the original tunnel is only 1m wide and 1.6m high which would feel claustrophobic for most adults. The replica is wider and taller but still recreates the feeling very well.
The guide also pointed out locations significant to the siege on our way there and back, although we did not stop anywhere else.
I was a solo female traveller and there was another Australian couple on the tour with me, in addition to the driver who was also the guide. I felt very safe.
I think the benefit of this tour is that it is 2.5 hours so it can be done relatively quickly whilst still gaining the insight, knowledge and experience of the tunnel, museum and its history if you only have a short time in Sarajevo. Other tours to the same place require 4 hours (although include stopping at a few other points of interest). You can also go here on your own (via car, taxi or tram/bus) but public transport is not direct and takes time. More importantly you would miss out on the tour guide's excellent first hand knowledge. Well worth the very reasonable price for this tour and saves time!
