Outstanding Tour — Mirko Made the Experience Exceptional

    Chuck_S, Jan 2026
This was one of the best tours I have ever experienced. Mirko was engaging, knowledgeable, caring, and highly responsive throughout the tour. His explanations were clear, informative, and added meaningful context that truly enhanced the experience. It was evident that he genuinely cared about the group and took pride in delivering a high-quality tour. Questions were welcomed and answered thoroughly, the group was well managed, and the pacing was excellent. The tour felt well organized, relaxed, and enriching from start to finish. A great guide can make all the difference, and Mirko absolutely did. This experience exceeded expectations, and I would enthusiastically recommend this tour to anyone looking for a professional and memorable guided experience.

    Great overview of the region.

Alexander is a GREAT guide and he made the day perfect. He’s super friendly, multi-lingual, and passionate about the work he does. I’m usually a very independent traveler, but I am traveling solo so I wanted an organized tour vs. renting a car and setting out on my own. It was a good idea. I learned a lot, and got around w/o the stress and confusion of figuring it all out along the way. Be prepared! The Piedras Rojas hike is COLD and WINDY. I am not kidding. At 4,000m even a clear, warm day can feel like zero degrees. Bring layers, especially a good wind-breaker jacket, a cap and gloves. Note: I might have given this one less star just because it is a LONG DAY out (has noting to do with the great guide), and can be a bit tiring. Also, there can be a lot of “down time” waiting for people to catch up on trails, or while they wait in line for the toilet. But don’t let that dissuade you. Just be prepared for it, and enjoy all this tour has to offer.

Scenes from another planet with a great group and guide

We had a great day out of San Pedro on this tour. It was a long day but worth the 10 hours. We saw so many different desert landscapes. The red rocks at one of the lakes were a little difficult for us to negotiate, and the walk was long, but we made it and the guide, Hann, and other people from our tour were understanding when we were a little slower. The flamingos were amazing to see in “person.” We really enjoyed visiting with the other people on our bus. The only problem we had was with communication from the tour organizer about the start time. Our ticket, which we had printed out at home, said 7 AM so we assumed our pick up would be anytime after seven. The trip organizer changed the time but communicated it pretty late on the evening before and we did not realize that the time had changed until 5:30 in the morning when we found out that pick ups were starting at 6 am not 7 due to holiday travelers making everything slower in San Pedro . This holiday could have been predicted since it was November 2. We were pretty stressed by the time we got on the van and the other travelers had every right to be annoyed with our lateness. They were nice about it when they found out what our ticket said. Anyway, all was forgotten by the end of the long day. We especially enjoyed trying to communicate with some of the Spanish speakers over lunch. It was a very nice group of people. We would suggest that Viator emphasize that communication will be by WhatsApp and that travelers should make sure to be checking WhatsApp regularly.

    Great tour

Great tour seeing lots of sights. It is a long day (7am to 5pm) but you get to see lots. Would’ve liked a little longer at Laguna Chaxa but a great tour to do in San Pedro de Atacama and nice that the tour included all of the entrance fees for ease.

Excellent tour guide, Ulises, makes the experience more spectacular!

    Zaida_O, Mar 2024
Ulises was a very friendly and knowledgeable tour guide. As a native, he was able to provide additional information that you can’t learn from books:-) He answered all questions and was very accommodating to the different needs in the group!
