Great day for all ages.

Adele_H, Mar 2026
Amazing Day . The guide knew so much about both the Mayan site and the caves, and the knowledge made the trip so enjoyable.

Fantastic tubing in caves with a great guide, Jose

Mahendra_P, Mar 2026
Jose was the best guide we’ve had traveling all over S America (more on him later). It’s a 35min drive to the Mayan site. Climb as much or as little as you want. The structures are impressive with panoramic views from the top. From there the drive to the river & caves is longish (1.5hr). About a 30 min walk up the river and then leisurely tubing down through huge caves. Tubing through the caves was phenomenal made even more enjoyable by our guide Jose. He shared interesting details about the caves, their evolving nature and intricate passages one could take if one wanted to. Jose was full of interesting little details of the flora and fauna of the region which he learnt growing up in the area. Above all he enjoyed the work he did and spread the joy to our party freely and frequently. I highly recommend him and the tour company he works for (sorry cannot recall the company’s name).

Response from Host, Mar 2026

Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful experience. We’re so happy to hear that Jose made such a lasting impression, as his passion for Belize, its caves, wildlife, and Maya history is something our guests feel right away. Growing up in the area, he truly loves sharing the little details that turn a tour into a meaningful adventure. At St Leonard’s, we believe the best memories come from guides who genuinely care about the people they are with, and it sounds like Jose did exactly that for your group. We’re so grateful you spent the day with St Leonard’s, and we hope the magic of those caves and jungle views stays with you for a long time

This was a long and fun...

Candace_M, Mar 2026
This was a long and fun day! We were picked up at 7:30am and dropped off just after 7pm. Carla was a lovely and friendly guide. Pros: The van we were in was air conditioned and Carla gave us a good idea of what the day would be like. She definitely knew her archaeology and gave many details about the ruins. And she was an amazing cave guide! She had to work so hard to get the group of 6 of us moving on the slow moving river- she is small but mighty! She also led our group to explore and swim through the Crystal Cave, which was an incredible experience that our whole family (kids aged 10&12) loved! On the way home, Carla had watermelon and local plantain chips to snack on. She was pleasant and very knowledgeable. The only suggestion I’d give is to make the ruins tour a bit more beginner friendly. My kids and I had no prior knowledge about the Mayan culture so felt a little lost. It would have been helpful to have an overview of the culture, and comparisons to cultures today, to help us understand. But other than that, I’d recommend St Leonard’s wholeheartedly- the communication, the customer service and the actual tours were awesome!!

Response from Host, Mar 2026

Thank you so much for taking the time to share such a thoughtful review of your day with St Leonard’s. We’re thrilled to hear that Carla helped make the experience memorable with her warmth, knowledge, and that “small but mighty” energy while guiding the cave adventure. From floating down the river to exploring Crystal Cave and enjoying fresh watermelon and plantain chips on the ride home, it sounds like a day filled with special family moments. At St Leonard’s, we love creating experiences that both children and adults will remember for years, so it means a lot to hear your whole family enjoyed it. We’re especially glad Carla’s passion for archaeology and guiding helped bring the adventure to life. Thank you as well for the helpful suggestion about making the ruins portion more beginner friendly—we truly appreciate feedback that helps us improve the experience for future guests. Helping visitors connect with the story of the Maya in a clear and meaningful way is very important to us. We’re so grateful you chose St Leonard’s, and we hope to welcome you and your family back to Belize for another adventure with Carla someday.

An amazing day with Jose!!!

Lauri_T, Feb 2026
Unbelievable day touring the Mayan Ruins at Xunantunich and tubing snd exploring the Jaguar Paw caves of Nohoch Ch’een! Our guide Jose was incredible in both knowledge he shared and care he took of us exploring parts of the cave that many do not get to ever see! Thank you for a fabulous experience!!

Response from Host, Feb 2026

Thank you for writing this review. We are so delighted that your journey to Xunantunich and the mystical "Xibalba" caves was nothing short of unbelievable. It brings us so much to hear that Jose made you feel so safe and cared for, especially while guiding you through those hidden, sacred corners of the caves that few ever get to witness. At St. Leonard's, we truly believe these soulful adventures are where the best memories are made, and we are honoured that you trusted us to show you the magic of Belize. We can’t wait to welcome you back to the farm for another day of sunshine and spectacular stories!

Fun trip

Audrey_S, Jan 2026
We booked a group tour but ended up having the guide Jose all to ourselves! Xunantunich was great. Jose was super knowledgeable so we leaned lots. There’s a fun hand pulled ferry ride en route. We were there by 8am so there was only a handful of other people there. We climbed to the top of the structure (about 50 metres). You get an amazing view from the top but I imagine it could be a little scary if you’re afraid of heights. The climb is in lots of stages so it’s not difficult. There is a large toilet block in the car park and a few tourist shops. The cave tubing is around 1.5 hours drive from Xunantunich. There are several stalls selling swim suits, shorts, tshirts, beach towels, waterproof phone cases and water shoes or you can rent a pair of crocs for US $3. There’s a simple restaurant. Again, there is a large toilet block where you change into your water clothing then get a helmet with head torch, life jacket and your tube. You can hire someone to carry your tube for you but although they are large, they’re lightweight. You walk for around 5 minutes then wade across the river. The water was thigh height. You then walk for around 40 minutes through the forest on a clear and mostly easy path with a few steep staircases. The tubing was fun - you’re mostly floating through caves - it’s all very peaceful with just the occasional faster flowing section of river. We stopped off en route in a large cave to scramble over the rocks. I’m a terrible swimmer so I just watched while the other 2 jumped off ledges into deep pools. You end up back at the point where you waded over the river so it’s then a short walk back to the car park. Even if you don’t do any swimming, you get wet (from the waist down) so a change of clothing & towel is essential. We rented crocs but I was pleased I took my walking sandals because I found it hard to walk in the crocs - they were a bit too wide. The forest walk was much easier and faster in my own shoes. There’s a bottle holder in the tube and you can attach a waterproof bag to your life jacket to put your spare shoes or your phone in.

Response from Host, Jan 2026

Thank you so much for sharing this wonderfully detailed experience, and we’re glad you chose St Leonard’s for such an unforgettable day in Belize. What a gift to have Jose all to yourselves—those private, unhurried moments are exactly where his deep knowledge and warm personality really shine. Arriving early at Xunantunich and climbing to the top before the crowds is one of those magical experiences that stays with you long after the trip ends and a reason we aim to start early. We love how you captured the mix of adventure and calm, from the hand-pulled ferry to the peaceful forest walk and floating through the caves. Jose takes great care to make sure guests feel comfortable at every step, especially when activities involve heights or water, so everyone can enjoy the day at their own pace. The cave tubing portion is such a beautiful contrast—quiet, grounding, and awe-inspiring rather than rushed or overwhelming. Your practical tips will be so helpful to future guests, and they reflect exactly how thoughtfully these experiences are planned. Thank you again for trusting St Leonard’s with your adventure—we’re honored to be part of memories like these.

D_B, Mar 2025
We had a great time with Jose!!! We did Xunantunich in the morning and cave tubing in the afternoon. We were so lucky to have the morning tour with Jose privately, and had the tubing with some other lovely people. Jose was very knowledgeable, he explained the trees, the archaeological site in great details, and took lots of pictures of us. We were the second car arriving Xunantunich, so there was no other tourists there. We had great photos, enjoyed the site by ourselves, and we finished the morning tour when heat came up. The afternoon tour was even more impressive. Jose was taking care of everyone. We were lucky that we didn’t have to carry the tube for 30mins hiking. The cave was so beautiful, we saw many fragments of Mayan pottery. Both of us enjoyed the tour very much! And highly recommend Jose and the tour company!!

Response from Host, Mar 2025

We appreciate your high recommendation and hope to welcome you on another adventure in Belize soon!

So much fun!

Lindsy_B, Feb 2025
Great time with Carla and Marc! They were extremely personable and gave us a ton of history and background on Belize. The ruins were so cool to see and you can even climb to the top to see into Guatemala. The steps are very steep though, just a heads up. Lunch was super yummy and even came with a complimentary beer! The cave tour was super unique and fun to do, and you even get to explore inside a bit as well as Carla guided us along the way. Even though it practically down poured rain on us most of the day, we still had a great time! Would definitely recommend this tour!

Response from Host, Feb 2025

Thank you for your wonderful review! We’re really happy to hear that Carla and Mark made your experience with St. Leonard’s so engaging, sharing their passion for Belize’s history and culture. Xunantunich truly is a breathtaking site, and climbing to the top for that incredible view into Guatemala is always a highlight! We’re glad you enjoyed the delicious lunch and that even the rain couldn’t dampen your adventure through the caves. We appreciate your recommendation and hope to welcome you back for another unforgettable tour!

Do Not Miss This

Rachel_G, Feb 2025
We were lucky enough to have Jose all to ourselves, he took us farther into the cave than any other group and had us laughing and exploring for hours. This tour is a must! Jose was very knowledgeable about the ruins and the cave, it was an incredible learning experience and he made sure we were comfortable at all times. Amazing tour, incredible guide, do not miss this! Thank you to our friend Jose!

Cave Tubing Was Great!

Terry_H, Feb 2025
Great experience! I probably would have given all five stars, but the ferry was broken to get to the ruins so we only did the cave tubing. But our guide, Jose made the cave tour fantastic with his knowledge and taking the time to explain the plants, birds, and history. Rain or shine it was great. If you don’t have a waterproof case for your phone/camera buy/rent one as you will wish you had it.

Response from Host, Feb 2025

Thank you for sharing your experience! We’re sorry the broken ferry prevented access to the ruins that day, but we’re glad you enjoyed the cave tubing adventure with Jose. At St. Leonard's, we always aim to provide the best service and have refunded the part of the tour impacted by the ferry; we hope you’ll join us again for the full experience soon!

An excellent adventure

Ben_R, Jan 2025
Jose was excellent. He was friendly, intelligent and out going. He had an answer for everything we asked. He ciuld tell us about the history of Belize, the towns, the Myans, plants, animals, geopraphy, everything. He knows the cave system inside and out I think. He worked hard to provide us with everything we were looking for. It really was a great day!

Response from Host, Jan 2025

Elio with St. Leonard's Tour was fantastic. He was so knowledgeable, professional, fun, and informative. He imparted really interesting historical information while keeping things moving and upbeat. The cave tubing with his extra excursion WAS AMAZING. I thought just tubing through the caves would be fun enough, but Elio took us off-path and it was even more interesting, fun and literally made our whole Belize trip. Would highly recommend Elio and St. Leonards.

What an amazing day. Elio was our guide and made it so interesting. Between seeing Mayan ruins and cave tubing, he added so much knowledge and variety for our group of 6. We saw monkeys, went tarantula “fishing”, jumping off a rock into a cenote. This is a great trip for all family members.

A great time with laughs and friends

Patrick_L, Jun 2024
Booked this using Google and I didn't really look at reviews. But Elio it's legit. We booked two days before, they provide lunch, and ride from your hotel if you're in San Ignacio. We went to Xunantunich and cave tubing. Elio knew the water was a little low (June) and he got out of the tubes and dragged the entire group through shallow water. Elio laughs easily and makes jokes. Be relaxed and he'll treat you well

Response from Host, Jun 2024

Thank you for taking time to share your experience! We're so glad you found and booked with St. Leonard's, and that Elio provided such excellent service. It's great to hear that he went above and beyond by navigating the group through the shallow water during the cave tubing. His easygoing nature and sense of humor truly enhance the tour experience. Our guide was amazing. Funny and very knowledgeable. We had someone who had knee problems and he was very good at helping him out and going slow. The ruins were amazing and it was nice to have someone explain them to us. The cave floating was so much fun and so beautiful. I would definitely do this again.

Amazing tour!

Melissa_A, Apr 2024
This was an amazing tour. My husband and I were delighted to realize it was just us and Elio, the guide. We spent the morning walking through Xunantunich. We were early enough at the site that we largely had it to ourselves. Elio knew an incredible amount about the history and culture of the site. Where the tour was really amazing though was in the caves. Elio took us off on an adventure where we got to explore special parts of the cave at our own pace. I strongly recommend this tour and Elio as a guide.

Response from Host, Apr 2024

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your wonderful experience! It sounds like your tour with ST Leonard's and Elio was truly exceptional, especially with the personalized attention of having just you and your husband. Exploring Xunantunich in the morning must have been magical, and having the site largely to yourselves must have added a special touch to the experience. It's fantastic to hear that Elio's expertise enriched your journey, particularly with his insights into the history and culture of the site. Venturing into the caves sounds like a thrilling adventure, especially with Elio as your guide, guiding you through unique parts of the cave at your own pace. Your recommendation speaks volumes, and we're grateful to have had the opportunity to create such memorable moments for you. May your future adventures be just as enchanting, and may the force be with you!

Amazing adventure! Elio is an exceptionally knowledgeable, and hilarious, guide. Book this tour. You will not regret it! Some people were telling us we could just take a taxi to visit Xunantunich on our own, but I’m so happy we didn’t. Having additional context from Elio to understand the site made the visit much more impactful. I think this tour was the perfect combination of education and adventure. : )
