Our driver Farid was so accommodating and kind. He didn’t speak English, but we used google translate and had a great time learning from each other. He took us to the absolute best lunch spot called Katta Tosh Tabdir with the most wonderful lamb we have ever had. He also took us to a gorgeous hiking spot upon request after the Shahrisabz tour. Our guide in Shahrisabz, Ms. Firuza was so kind and taught us everything there was to know about the history of the palace, mausoleums, mosques, and everything else we encountered in the city. Overall a fabulous experience and just great people all along the way!

This is a great trip and both the Driver and the Tour Guide at Shahrisabz were fab!. I recommend this.

Excellent tour of this small town. With its Mosques and Mausoleums. A garden city with its greenery. Tour guide was excellent with her local knowledge and her 2 assistant students.

Great day trip to Shakhrisabz from Samarkand. Informative guide and a fab optional lunch stop on the way back, including being shown the outdoor kitchen where the lamb was being prepared and tandoori cooked

Feruza is a great guide and she is well versed on the history of Shahrisabz! She is kind and also has strong English. The site itself was cool to see if you’re looking for a day trip from Samarkand and are interested in learning more about Amir Timur. Zafar was also a kind driver and very patient, would recommend this excursion if you’re interested in history!

I really enjoyed this tour. Amir, the tour operator, sent me the itinerary of the tour beforehand so I knew what to expect. He also contacted me after the tour to ask for feedback, which I really appreciated. The drive to Shahrisabz is very safe thanks to the driver Timur. We drove past some impressive mountain range, where I witnessed the lives of local Uzbek people. In Shahrisabz, I met up with my local guide Firuza who spoke fluent English and was very familiar with the history of her country. We had a fun time at the bazaar, where I tried out local snacks. Shahrisabz is a quaint little town with lovely locals. I would recommend this tour to everyone who is in Samarkand and who would like to see what authentic Uzbek life is like.

We enjoyed the tour the driver was very cheerful and safe. Feruza the guide was absolutely excellent she really knew her subject and her English was perfect. The drive through the mountain pass was interesting and we stopped at a market and viewing point.
I have given the tour four stars and that is because the tour operator needs to improve their communication. I booked the tour 2 days before and the afternoon the day before the tour the operator said they would be in touch. I had to chase for the drivers name etc the evening before the tour and in the end contacted Viator. We have been on several of the tours in Viator, this was the only tour operator who didn't contact us afterwards to confirm the day went well.

Had Firuza as my guide. She is lovely, knowledable and takes pride in her history and heritage.
The sights itself is contained in a fairly small area and doesnt take more than 2-3 hours to cover.
The drive from Samarkand is about 2 hours each way with some interesting viewing points along the way.
4 stars seems just about apt. If one is short on time, this tour can be skipped.

Mrs. Firuza was an amazing tour guide. Very knowledgeable and kind. She made the history come alive and was very passionate about her country's history.
Keisuke_K, May 2024
Shahrisabz itself is interesting if you are interested in Amir Timur, but the view from Takhtakaracha Pass over looking Tajikistan border is even more worth a visit.
Response from Host, May 2024
thx Keisuke I could not agree more with you that is why we take our time in driving over the mountain pass and make several stops, it gives our guests a chance to take a closer look at Uzbek mountain and its inahbitants.
Haruo_O, May 2024
This was such a lovely trip. The teacher brought her students of English and Japanese and we had a very informative tour, learning about the history, Amir Timur and trying different foods in the bazaar. They did everything to make us happy. Would highly recommend. As other reviewers mentioned, the driver does not speak English but this was not a problem for us. We had photo stops on the way to Shahrisabz to see the mountains and on the way back we were tired out from the lovely day out.
Response from Host, May 2024
thx for your view Harou, we r glad that you enjoyed the trip. We encourage our guide to interact with their guests to have a moer human to human experience. We r enrolling our drivers in English courses but will take time.
Annie_M, Apr 2024
The driver was great and very helpful. Even though he was not an English speaker, it was great to have him. The tour guide Fairuda was just ok rushing us and not personalizing it at all. We were not impressed.
Response from Host, Apr 2024
Hi Annie
I am v surprised to read your review, we had 16 very staisfied customers who rated our Guide Ms, Fairuza so highly that we got certificate of excellence for this tour, Actually every other review mentioned her by name and was thankful for her wonderful excursion, none the less we had a serious conversation with her to be 100% respsonsive to cleints responses since every guests has is a unique person with their unique need.

Delightful experience. Brand new car, friendly and polite driver. Ms Firuza was the guide: knowledgeable, amicable, relatable and patient . Her English was perfect and very easy to follow. She helped me to interact with local people and even we shared some laughs. I gain another perspective of Amir Timur.

The drive to Shahrisabz takes around 2 hours and is one of the experiences. the views of the moutains are spectacular and stunning. We met our guide in Shahrisabz who was very enthusiastic and spoke perfect English. She explained in great detail the history of the town and you can see how passionate she is to host visitors to her city. She had two wonderful students with her who bonded really well with my little son and practiced their English with him.
Suciani_A, Jan 2024
The driver was on time, but speaks no English. I was under impression that the guide will be with me from the start, but turned out I will meet the guide in Shahrizabz as she is a native of the city. She brought her student with her to practice her English and we made a short video of me and the student conversing in English. It was the cutest thing ever! 😂
My guide Firoza was amazing, she truly is passionate about her hometown and the history, so listening to her story was a delight. She even gave me chocolate, shawl, and perfume as New Year gift and it was really touching 🥺
The tour was short, as most places are reachable by foot, we stopped for lunch and went to the local bazaar and I ended up buying a bunch of dried fruits and nuts. They're so cheap and fresh and tasty!
The drive from Samarkand to Shahrizabz was lovely, passing through the mountain and it was covered with snow. The driver stop twice to let me take few pictures. He was so kind, I really wish we can converse more coz I'm sure he has lots of interesting life story. Don't even know his name but my guide says he's of Tajik and Iran descendant. Please do send my best regard to the mister.
Gizelle_Y, Nov 2023
It's interesting to know the history. The tour was okay. The driver doesn't speak English, but the guide speaks English well. The guide brought along her two English students and it was fine with me. The drive from/to Samarkand was longer than my actual stay in Shahrisabz.
Lunch was expensive.
Response from Host, Dec 2023
Hi Gizelle, I am sorry that your experience was just good instead of excellent as in most of our reviews, Drive is only 100km but it takes 2 hours since it is a beautiful but rather narrow mountain road and beside taking time to make extra stops we instruct drivers to drive carefully as safety is paramount issue for us. so In total you drive 4 hours there & back which is equal to time you spend in Shahrisabz, however the mountain gorge is a part of the experience. Thanks for your understanding about students, we take extra measure to prepare guides to meet increasing demand in Uzbekistan. Our Drivers do not speak English but we r working on teaching them basic English language Vocabulary.
Blanka_E, Jul 2023
The local guide in Shahrisabz was an absolute delight. A smiley, happy woman who spoke perfect English and possesses a vast knowledge about her city and country. It was an absolute delight listening to her.
Leonhard_C, May 2023
The scenery on the drive to and from Shahrisabz was absolutely stunning. We made multiple photo stops and climbed on some of the boulders. We also made a stop at the "Valley of Demons" / "Devils Helmet" for some very special views.
The city itself was also nice, although the amount of souvenir vendors who all sell the exact same items was bothersome. We would recommend going earlier in the year as it was very hot, but still okay, just bring a lot of water. Our guide was also very nice.
Overall it was a good experience.
Rafael_A, May 2023
Shahrisabz is a great little town, full of history and pride for its past, as well as a well kept, modern city. I really enjoyed the tour, and my guide's (Farouza) knowledge and enthusiasm and love for her hometown were contagious!
Noor_H, Apr 2023
The drive was scenic, we made 2 stops with stunning views.
We reached Shahrisabz and met the tour guide Fayrooza and her student Asal.
She was wonderful, informative and genuinely passionate about the history and culture of her country.
We learnt so much, she showed us the historical sites, bazaars and as we were fasting for Ramadan, she showed us how to make plov and other dishes instead of lunch. We had a lot of fun. Thank you for a great experience.
Response from Host, Apr 2023
You are welcome Noor, we make extra effort to train our guides to meet our Guests expectations..
Greg_R, Jul 2022
My tour guide was very refreshing to be around and she possessed excellent knowledge of Shakhrisabz, where I got to learn about the history of Amir Temur. Afterwards we had some lovely shashlik at her sister's restaurant. It was so lovely to meet such hospitable, determined and inspiring people!
Response from Host, Jul 2022
Dear Mr Greg, thanks a lot for you feedback!
Amir_Z, Jan 2022
Trip was organized very professional. Driver and guide were very friendly, seems that local people have this mentality to be very respectful to tourists. The city and sights were very beautiful and different what we are used in modern countries. So far, I like this country a lot.
Response from Host, Apr 2022
Thank you, Amir, for your kind remarks, we are proud of our heritage and tradition as a guest friendly nation. Wish you nice memories in your future travel,
Peter_R, Aug 2025
We've obviously been forgotten. We were only picked up from the hotel after several WhatsApp over an hour late. The tour with a tour guide who barely spoke German - she had obviously memorized her text well, but could not answer any questions - was then completed very quickly.

Response from Host, Aug 2025
Dear Mr. Peter Raidl,
Good day to you.
Your feedback is very important to us, and we truly appreciate you sharing it. As you experienced, on that particular day many roads in the city were closed due to important circumstances, which caused heavy traffic. Although the driver was delayed by about one hour, he nevertheless managed to reach the hotel.
Regarding the guide, please accept our sincere apologies. Unfortunately, there are very few local German-speaking guides available in Shakhrisabz. We fully acknowledge and respect your concerns, and we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused.
Thank you once again for your valuable feedback and for your understanding.
With best regards,
Amir

Firuza was one of our best guides in Uzbekistan. Very high preparation and competence on many aspects, not only historical-cultural. And with impeccable English. Thank you ❤️
