Itinerary

Begin your full-day shore excursion with a meet-and-greet and pickup at the Warnemunde Cruise Center, then settle in for the approximately two-and-a-half-hour drive to Berlin. During the journey, decide whether you would like to focus on World War II history, Cold War history, or a combination of both. As a private tour, the itinerary can be customized to match your interests.

Once in the city, explore Berlin with a local guide using a mix of driving and walking to cover more ground. Hear the story of Berlin’s complex and often turbulent past, from the rise of Adolf Hitler and the Nazi Party to the divided city of the Cold War.

Visit the site of Hitler’s former bunker and the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe, then step into Cold War history at Checkpoint Charlie, once the best-known crossing point between East and West Berlin. Continue along preserved sections of the Berlin Wall at the Berlin Wall Memorial and East Side Gallery.

Walk beneath the iconic Brandenburg Gate, once a symbol of division and now a national monument to peace and unity, and see the Reichstag, home to Germany’s modern parliament.

When it's time for lunch (own expense), your guide can recommend options such as a traditional German beer garden, based on your preferences.

After your day of sightseeing, relax on the return drive to Warnemunde, where your tour concludes with drop-off back at the cruise port.

Great Day in Berlin

Gary_K, Sep 2024
Even though we were hours away from Berlin everything went so smoothly! Our driver Peter did a great job getting us from the port to Berlin, all around Berlin and back to the port ahead of schedule. Our tour guide Nicholais was very knowledgeable, we gave him a wish list and we saw all of that and more.

Response from Host, Sep 2024

Dear Gary, Thank you for your wonderful feedback! We're thrilled to hear that everything went smoothly despite the distance from Berlin. It's great to know that Peter ensured timely transportation and that Nicholais provided a knowledgeable and fulfilling tour, covering all of your wish list and more. Safe travels. Insider Tour.

Super Historical Tour of Berlin

William_H, Jun 2023
This tour was just super!!! We requested that our tour guide have a knowledge of World War II and the Cold War. Glen our tour guide was perfect! He exceeded all our expectations, and his knowledge was excellent. For myself, I learned a lot from Glen and I am very grateful! Again, this was a super tour and it is worth every penny and more!!!

Response from Host, Jun 2023

Dear William_, Thank you kindly for this woinderful review of your Berlin shore excursion with Insider Tour. Glen is a great guide and we are delighted to read that he exceeded all your expectations. Thank you for touring with us. All the very best, Gerard

Day trip covering historical Berlin

Nicholas_B, Sep 2022
Communication with the company was very easy. Our guide Cian, did an amazing job not only showing us around, but enhancing the stories as he is a student at the local university. Cian is fluent in English and German, which was extremely useful. Also, having a private vehicle was great! We would walk and meet the vehicle when needed. Cian took us to many spots and explained the history of them, recommended a delicious bier garden for lunch, and ended the tour at a convenient spot to meet the vehicle. Our drive was only 2.5 hours from port and we got to experience being on the Autobaun! This was by far the best excursion of our trip, best price, and best experience of the vacation!

Good service, met expectations

RogelioDavid_G, Jul 2019
The service was on time and met the expectations of the group. The only hiccup was that the driver that was sent for us only speaked German so the 3hr drive from Warnemunde to Berlin was “lost” as we could not either plan or start hearing some history on the way, once we got to Berlin and the guide met us, at that point the tour was great.

Wonderful Tour

Totally worth the drive to see Berlin! We were met, as promised, by our driver Olaf, and taken to Berlin. Olaf was gracious answering all of our questions and had a great sense of humor! Heiko was extremely knowledgeable about Berlin and able to keep our 10 & 12 year old boys interested and engaged! You could tell Heiko was passionate about sharing good beautiful city with others! Thank you for memories that will last a lifetime!

Day in Berlin

Robert_S, Jul 2018
A long but excellent day in Berlin. I arranged this tour long before the cruise as I like to do own private tour not a ship excursion. Our family of 5, ages ranging from 15 to 82 all enjoyed this event. Our tour guide Nigel was very knowledgeable and most amusing.

This tour was a highlight of our Viking Baltic cruise. We enjoyed a personalized tour of historic Berlin and prompt pickup and return to the cruise ship. I think we saw more than those who chose the ship's tour. Will definitely book through Viator again.

I had mentioned that I am in a wheelchair on the Viator website when signing up for the tour, and it never got mentioned to the guide. Even after seeing me in a wheelchair he brought us to a restaurant where the bathroom was down a flight of stairs. There should be more mention and importance of accessibility on the Viator website. The guide was energetic and charismatic, but spoke too much and did not listen to our needs. However, being provided the opportunity to visit Berlin when the port is so far away was a great experience. Fascinating city.

We highly recommend our guide Uly and our driver who did a wonderful job showing us the highlights of Berlin. Instead of going with a large cruise ship tour company we actually got a great personalized tour for our interests at a better price in our own vehicle with our excellent guide and great driver. We are very pleased we chose this tour

Tour guide Brian was incredible. He was the best. From the itinerary we thought we had more time to see other sights with the driver. He took us straight back to ship. we arrived back at the ship what we thought was early.

This tour was very nice and very informative. Our tour guide was an American living and working in Berlin and he knew much about Germany's history and the sights to see in Berlin. I would recommend this tour to anyone interested in Berlin's history.

Nancy G, Jun 2015
From the moment Herbert, our driver, picked us up at the ship, this tour was simply the most professional and enjoyable of all the tours and shore excursions we've taken! Herbert was prompt, the van was clean and comfortable, and the drive to and from the city included stops at a very clean rest stop that had a restaurant and gift shop, in addition to very clean restrooms. Our guide, Ashleigh met us at the Museumplatz, where we began our walking/riding tour of the city. Ashleigh was extremely knowledgeable, enhanced her commentary with black and white photos taken during World War II and the Cold War, and is absolutely passionate about Berlin and its history - all of which added to our visit to this incredible city. We provided Ashleigh with a list of attractions we hoped to see prior to our visit and she accommodated our requests and then some, including sharing her favorite spot for bratwurst and beer. From the Museumplatz to the Berlin Cathedral, from Humboldt University and St. Helwig's to Gendarmes Square, from many stops along the former Berlin Wall to Checkpoint Charlie, from the Holocaust Memorial to the Kaiser Wilhelm Church, from the Schloss Charlottenburg to the Unter den Linden and the K'dam - we did it all and in the company of two very professional, very friendly and accommodating people. If you only have one day in Berlin, we can't recommend Insider Tours enough!
