The 2:30 AM hotel pickup...

The 2:30 AM hotel pickup was brutal... but 100% worth it! I might suggest skipping the restroom facilities at the travel plaza along the way to Agra, but once we arrived and were met by our guide everything else was top of the line. Vikas was a good storyteller, great photographer, and delightful to spend the day with. This was more than I expected... in addition to the Taj Mahal we saw the Agra fort. Yes, there is some sales / shopping push, but it is fun and if you don't want to buy, you don't have to. But it is interesting to learn more about the process of mosaic and carpet weaving.

This was not a sunrise at the Taj Mahal as promised . Sunrise happened on the way there. There were many times when we were not well informed of what was going on. Also, be prepared to be nickel and dined. There are several places we were told to pay something extra without much explanation. Our tour guide was just ok. He spent time on his phone when he was supposed to be working with us. He kept trying to avoid taking us to the third stop; it felt as though he wanted to be done with us. Lastly, the included food is really a joke. The guide told us it was a “5 star breakfast” that was a crowded buffet at a Marriott Courtyard. And they took us there after the Taj Mahal and then just two hours later they said it was time for lunch which of course we were not ready for. When the driver stopped at a rest area later, we had to pay for our own. With the cost of drivers in India being so low, hire a driver from your hotel and go on your own. Definitely not worth the price.

I did a solo tour. Was promptly picked up around 2am from my hotel and driver took me to Agra. It was a peaceful ride. Upon arrival, we picked up tour guide, and made our way to Taj Mahal. Being 5am, the crowd was very little, weather was a wonderful breezy day, and the sun was not as hot. Tour guide took some exceptional pictures of me and the scenery. We made our way to see Agra Fort, and then Baby Taj. Since it was early enough in the day, the sun was not hot, and the crowd was very minimal. After Taj, I was taken to have breakfast at Courtyard by Marriot. Where they had a wide selection of food and drinks, and clean bathrooms. The only thing I would change from this tour that isn't mentioned in the itinerary, are the handicraft store visits after the tours. Being that I was the solo tourist, it was awkward for me to endure the sales pitch of the handicraft store. Their products, albeit beautiful, were priced way out of a typical budget (hundreds - thousands range). I wish I would have been given the option of participating in this part, instead of simply being dropped off to hear a sales pitch of a $2,500+ product.
