The group was small, Karl was knowledgeable and took us to some hidden gems in Valleta that are locally owned by Maltese families - we would definitely have walked passed these places if doing the tour ourselves! There was plenty of delicious food to try so go with an empty stomach.

Overview

Experience the culture of Malta’s capital city through its cuisine during a food and walking tour that reveals Valletta’s top sights and bites. You’ll explore on foot for a more intimate glimpse into the Old Town, and discover dishes that you might otherwise have missed due to the language barrier. Plus, exploring in a small group limited to 10 people means you’ll receive personalized attention from your guide.
  • Sample both classic and contemporary Maltese dishes
  • All food and drinks are included, there are no hidden costs
  • Get recommendations on where to eat for the rest of your stay
  • Explore on foot to observe the smaller details

What's Included

  • Coffee and/or Tea
We get to try the cooked infused Maltese coffee with chicory, cloves and aniseed.
  • Soda/Pop
We get to taste the local bitter sweet drink, Kinnie.
  • Alcoholic Beverages
A nice bottle of local beer at one of the Valletta clubs to wash down the ftira with.
  • Breakfast
The Maltese have pastizzi for breakfast and we will let you decide whether you like the pea or ricotta ones better.
  • Snacks
We're sure you will love the fried date pastry sweet which we call imqaret. We also taste the baked cheese snack called Twistees and some sea salt chocolate along with the coffee.
  • Lunch
We end our morning having some nice ftira lunchtime bread which we traditionally fill with tuna chunks, tomato conserve, onions, capers, olives and other Mediterranean produce.
  • Gratuites

Really interesting tour, learning about some of Malta’s history and tasting the lovely food. Guide was lovely and very knowledgeable. Loads of food, you don’t need breakfast beforehand!

Basic food tour with history lesson included

Caterina_F, Jul 2026
I really wish that this tour covered more about the food of Malta. We did have some taste testing. I expected a bit more than this. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and accommodating. However I didn’t really need a history tour as well as that was something I did the previous day on a Malta walkibg tour. I would’ve preferred if there was more discussion on food and a good variety.

Great Food Tour

Great food tour! Our guide was amazing and we got so much history paired with amazing food. Would highly recommend if you enjoy learning and eating.

Guided tour of Valletta and Malta's culinary delights

Diane_L, Jun 2026
Excellent 2.5hr tour guiding the group around Valletta with frequent stops to taste local Vallettan and Maltese food and drink. Starting just outside the main city gate we were guided through both main thoroughfares and quieter streets to visit small local Vallettan run restaurants, coffee shop and hostelries to been given a truly delicious experience of the main delights of local food both savoury and sweet, and locally produced wine, beer and Kimmie to drink, with a midday stop at the Upper Barrakka Gardens to experience the firing of the noon gun. This is for anyone wishing to experience an interesting and different tour of Valletta.

Nice tour with different food groups and some history thrown in. Tour leader was very amicable. But you still have to fight the crowds.

A Delicious and Heartfelt Journey Through Valletta

Jeannette_D, May 2026
Our food tour in Valletta with Karl was absolutely fantastic! The combination of amazing historical information and authentic Maltese food made this such a special experience for our family. Many of the dishes reminded us of the food my mother and grandmother used to make, which brought back wonderful memories and made the tour even more meaningful. Karl’s passion, knowledge, and storytelling truly brought the history and culture of Malta to life. Highly recommend this experience to anyone visiting Malta!

Excellent tour. Really friendly guide. Learned lots about the history of Malta, got tips about places to visit for the rest of our stay and as for the food......there was so much! Not just little bites like on most tours, this was full snacks , drinks and finished with a full meal. All excellent from lots of local places that you could easily just walk past. Make sure you arrive hungry!

Great Experience

Jack_S, Apr 2026
Very informative plus good food! Our tour guide was fantastic giving us a great introduction to Valletta.

Excellent experience - highly recommend!

Ted_S, Apr 2026
This was an excellent tour - the perfect mix of history, food, and walking. Chris moved at a perfect pace, with not too much walking but just enough to see the sights and digest in between food stops. He was very knowledgeable and shared that knowledge in an approachable and understandable way. The food was all delicious as well. He made accommodations for our kids (12 and 9) and was very conscious of food allergies in the group as well. Highly recommend this tour and Chris as a tour guide generally!

Food and history, excellent.

Karen_F, Apr 2026
Excellent tour, mixing history and food. Out guide was Karl who made everything fun with tales of knights of old and ancient battles.

Informative and enjoyable.

Steph_R, Apr 2026
Very clear information re starting point of tour. Guide Chris, was so informative and friendly. We enjoyed each of the stop off points for food, all delicious and with information given about each item. We felt it was good value for money as we were 'full up' at the end.
