Great tour with Francisco who was gracious and well versed in the area and the topography. Loved seeing the country side and learning about the olive tree and other plants. The Mission was fascinating and the food plentiful and even a cervaza if required. Good quality tour and well worth the trip.

A unique experience seeing this old mission, still very much alive with local people in the village running the gardens, vineyard and date, citrus and olive orchards, using the cisterns built hundreds of years ago by Jesuit priests. Santos was a wonderful guide, explaining sights on the scenic drive to and from the mission as well. Lunch at the local restaurant was delicious!

Santos our tour guide was amazing. Learned the history, geography, tasted the local abundance of the oasis in the desert Mountains plus the Jesuit history.

Our guide, Carlos, was fantastic. Intelligent, engaging, thoughtful, and informative. We learned so much about the history of the region and the mission.

A lovely historic outing

Helene_s, Mar 2026
There is a lot of driving to get to the Mision, but it is through a beautiful and interesting landscape. The road is winding in many spots as it climbs in altitude, but the van is very comfortable and air conditioned. Santos was an excellent tour guide and driver. He was very knowledgeable about the history of the Mision and area. Lunch was in a small restaurant near the Mision, where we had a number of dishes to choose from. Overall a very nice outing.

Great historical tour with knowledgeable friendly guide

Vanessa_A, Feb 2026
Fantastic guide who was really knowledgeable and friendly, and was able to answer all sorts of questions. It was nice to have a restaurant lunch, though it was pretty salty and options were limited (combo of small burrito and quesadilla or just burritos, both with rice and refried beans). There was also beer and water on the shuttle, which was pretty cramped even for average size people but otherwise clean and comfortable. Of our three excursions we enjoyed this guide the most. Instead of taking the shuttle back, we asked to stay in town to walk around a bit so he took us to the wild Loreto office to arrange our ride back at a later time in the day. That saved us from paying for a round trip ride into town separately and we just paid for one way back.

Discovering the mission

Beth_L, Feb 2026
San Javier is a special place and worth visiting, stepping back into history. The mission is significant as the second oldest and it's a lovely little mountain town with amazing scenery.

San Juan Mission experience

Gary_G, Feb 2026
Our guide was very knowledgeable about the history of the mission and local people as his grandfather lives in the small town where it is located. There was actually a photo of his grandfather’s great grandmother in the local restaurant so you know how far back the heritage goes.

Well done Francisco!

SAN Javier tour

Garnet_G, Jan 2026
Lots of history about the area. Santos was an excellent driver and guide! Enjoyed the church and the tour.

Culture and nature

Leslie_J, Jan 2026
Great tour to learn history, see flora and fauna and have a really good local lunch. Joselino (Lino) was an excellent guide...from Loreto, with grandpa still living in San Javier. This is not a tour for shopping/trinkets as much as local culture and nature. Beautiful.

Great Excursion.

Oscar_M, Jan 2026
Carlos our guide with Wild Loreto was very knowledgeable about the area, we stopped at various points so he can describe the flora and fauna.

Great tour, great food, great history!

Tasha_M, Jan 2026
Lino was an amazing guide. His family has been at San Javier for generations and he added extra insight to the tour. Lunch was wonderful and felt like sitting around the family table. The history and scenery were great! I’d definitely recommend this tour!

Excellent tour

Christie_D, Jan 2026
Wild Loreto was an excellent company to work with - great communication especially when we needed to re-schedule our tour. Carlos was a wonderful tour guide and his English is excellent. He is a very enthusiastic, patient & knowledgeable tour guide. The ride to San Javier Mission was very comfortable (8 passenger van) and included many talking points relevant to the history of San Javier and Loreto. We saw horses, cows, burrows, many birds, butterflies and other wildlife along the way. The lunch at La Palapa was excellent and Carlos provided a variety of drinks throughout the tour. There was plenty of time for photos, some local shopping & souvenirs if you wished. Overall a great tour. Thanks Carlos 🙏

San Javier Mission Experience

Lino was amazing. He knew San Javier because he had family that lives there. He was passionate about telling us about the local culture, and history. I highly recommend this tour.

GREAT Tour Guide

John_B, Dec 2025
GREAT tour guide. One of the best I have ever encountered. He was very knowledgeable and friendly and knew his stuff and was from the area so he was able to provide a more personal experience.

Great Tour in Loreto

Mike_A, Dec 2025
This tour is a must for anyone visiting Loreto. You can't truly appreciate the town of Loreto without understanding the history of the Sierra de la Giganta and the San Javier Mission. Our tour guide Joselino ("Lino") was outstanding and it was a huge bonus that his hometown was San Javier! The van ride was very comfortable and plenty of drinks were provided along the way. The restaurant lunch included in San Javier was excellent. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone wanting to learn more about this fascinating region.

Excellent tour. Highly recommend.

Mitch_Z, Dec 2025
Our guide was the best. Leno was very knowledgeable having been born and raised in San Javier. We learned the history of Loreto and the Jesuits who came from Spain in 1695 encountering the native tribes and feeding them thereby gaining trust. Leno also was very knowledgeable about the various trees, vegetation, and climate. We also toured the church and had lunch in San Javier. There was time for souvenir shopping in San Javier. Would recommend this tour.

Something for everyone

Cindy_W, Aug 2025
Many interesting facts about the mission and its culture were presented by Santos. The places we visited were authentic and were not commercialized in any way.

Beautiful drive up the mountain, to visit a historical Jesuit mission.

Kaprece_B, Jul 2025
The mountain drive was beautiful and out guide was so knowledgeable on local history and entertaining. Great tour with a knowledgeable guide. He even offered suggestions several other excursions to do in the area.

This company cancelled...

Nick_R, Jun 2025
This company cancelled all 3 tours I booked with them during our 4 day trip to Loreto and left us with very little to do during my girlfriend’s birthday trip. They never even gave us an option to pay more for a private tour. Completely unacceptable and I hope they understand that this continuous cancellation of our tours had a huge impact on our enjoyment of what was supposed to be a special birthday trip. So lame!

Highly recommended for 1st timers in Loreto

Melissa_Z, May 2025
Joselino was a wonderful tour guide. His family is from San Javier and so he is incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about its history. The ride was comfortable and smooth and included many talking points relevant to the history of San Javier and Loreto. There are many plants and fruits to observe and smell there, such as pitayas, mangos, wine grapes, oranges, lemons, grapefruits, olives, and bananas. The views from the tops of the mountains to get to San Javier cannot be overstated in their beauty. We saw horses, cows, and even a young deer. Joselino allowed plenty of time for photos, and was engaging and incredibly nice. Overall a beautiful and unique experience. Highly recommended!

Carlos was an amazing guide. We thoroughly enjoyed this trip. He was informative, kind and a terrific driver.

You must take this tour while in Loredo!

Thomas_B, Mar 2025
Truly amazing experience, wonderful scenery very good local guide. We were facinated by knowing that this church is the beginning of the El Camino Real missions.

Great day tour option

Glenn_O, Mar 2025
Excellent half day tour from Loreto. Lino picked us, a party of eight, in a large minivan on time. We had several email confirmations prior to pick up. He was very friendly, helpful, and spoke English well. We traveled up the mountain to the original mission with several stops on the way. The mission is quite interesting with surrounding agriculture. A very good simple lunch with drinks, including beer and soft drinks, was included. The tour duration was 4.5 hours.

Great excursion!!

Lzermani, Feb 2025
Wonderful tour and informative. Carlos our guide is very personable and professional. Jesus our driver equally kind and very good driver.

If motion sickness is a problem, this may not be for you.

Michelle_H, Jan 2025
Loved stepping back to a simpler time. The guide was engaging and scenery is beautiful. The ride up and down the mountain to get to the mission is very windy and the driver was safe but fast. Beware if prone to motion sickness.

Loved this Tour!

Chris_S, Dec 2024
Our guide, Damian, was fantastic, very knowledgeable and detailed about the area’s history, plant life, and focus of the tour, the San Javier Mission. You could tell he genuinely cared that we were learning a lot and enjoying ourselves. The scenery was gorgeous, the food was delicious. He went above and beyond showing us some highlights in Loreto as well on our way back. We highly recommend this tour, all seven of our family members, from 19-70 years old had a terrific time.

A great experience in a small Mexican town

Art_W, Dec 2024
the road trip is very interesting. The Mission and town were a chance to see how most Mexicans live. The price compared to the cruise line was a great bargain and there were only 8 people on the tour compared with what looked like 50 on the cruise tour. Also we were able to do photo stops!
