Pros: Swam with a whale shark
Cons: Highly disorganised day. We didn't realise there were 20 people on the boat so you were only in the water for about 15mins. Everything seemed rushed and chaotic. The journey to and from the site was also very rough.

Hola. ALL operators here in La Paz work under the control of SEMERNAT the local Mexican Authorities who schedule this activity. All boats are limited to 30 minutes with the Whale Shark we encounter and only 5 swimmers with your guide in the water at a time. (per regulations of all permitted boats) This is for safety of clients and protection of the animals, our two most important points of this activity. During high volume this system is challenging to navigate although we have over 5 years of experience, this is a new system this year and we all are working to ensure all our clients have the opportunity o swim with this highly threatened species. I was traveling on a cruise ship and saw the times available for this excursion and it fit perfectly within the time I had in port. The tour operator contacted me 2 days before the excursion date letting me know that it might not happen at the time I chose, and he would let me know the day of the excursion. The morning of the excursion, he contacted me saying the time was a couple hours later, which didn’t fit in with my cruise ship schedule. So I couldn’t go, and because I didn’t give 24 hours notice, viator won’t refund my money. That was a lot of money I just paid for nothing. I booked with Viator because I’ve used them many times in the past and they’ve always been great. Don’t list excursion times if they’re not valid or accurate. An expensive lesson I just learned and now I will definitely look at other companies instead of this one.

Hola. We are disappointed as well and I will contact Viator today to request a full refund for your missed trip. All operators work under the control of a local whale shark control group and we are all subject to the schedule they announce the day before the activity. Obviously this makes all the companies here struggle to have a finalized schedule. Again we apologise for missed opportunity for you to experience these amazing animals.

This is a must do experience in LA paz! The water was a little choppy, but an amazing experience. Might be nice with a couple less people on the boat. Definitely recommend.
