Richard and 16yo Dahi were superb guides. Even sang to me! Tour was in Irish but they translated for us. Lasted three hours. Gorgeous scenery. Need to be in good hiking shape. We got wet and muddy. Loved it!

Very nice walk

Olga_S, Oct 2025
Wonderful 2-h walk in Killarney National Park, Richard is very knowledgeable and told us a lot of stories. Relaxing walk, good with kids.

Wonderful tour from a trusted local guide

Katie_R, Oct 2025
This was a great way to explore the national park! The walk was relatively leisurely with only a few minor hills. Most was paved, but we did explore off the path a little. Our guide was born and raised in the area and the park was where he used to frequent as a child and all through this adulthood. We learned about the history and got to see some unique sites we would have missed on our own. We also enjoy the wildlife! We saw many deer and a type of cow that almost went extinct until being brought to the national park. One of the deer even almost came right up to us. It was just the right about of time but we loved seeing the beautiful sights from a trusted local!

You don't need a guide ....

Rosalind_K, Oct 2025
You don't need a guide . You can walk the park without one. Saw a few cows but no deer. Very little communication along the way. Very pleasant guide.

Fantastic hike!

Hidden gems in the national park

Landra_J, Jul 2025
Richard took us on paths through Killarney national park that we wouldn't have found on our own. Saw deer, egrets, heron etc. and very few people. Recommend long pants and hiking shoes.

Insightful and Knowledgeable

James_C, Jul 2025
Richard was a very kind and knowledgeable tour guide with plenty of wit and humor along the way! I would highly recommend this tour for a relaxing walk through the park.

great tour of Killarney national park

SHANE_L, Jun 2025
Richard is a fantastic guide It was a great tour of the Killarney national park I would recommend for anyone visiting Killarney to consider this tour

Great tour with insights to the park history.

Sasirekha_T, May 2025
Our guide was a friendly person who knew his stuff and the national park on the back of his hand! We had a great walk in the park. He brought us to the best spots and we were lucky to spot some sika deer and even the highly elusive red deer! We are glad to have met him. Thank you for showing us around! :)

Katherine_G, May 2025
We took the flora and Fana walk through Killarney national Park with our guide. We would’ve appreciated more history of the park and of the area. Our guy did point out some of the vegetation, but we would’ve appreciated more flgeneral information about Irish culture and history, especially of the area.

An enchanting walk through Killarney

Prateek_P, Mar 2025
My wife and I were the only participants when we met our guide for the day Thomas. A soft spoken man full of stories and an incredible set of talents ranging from story telling, to singing, to design. Thomas is a proper renaissance man, and it was an absolute delight to hear the real, historical and mythical stories of Killarney. He has an encyclopaedic memory and interests in a large range of topics, which meant that the 2 hr walk felt far too short. I would strongly recommend this walk to anyone reading this.

Amazing

Isabel_G, Feb 2025
JAMES WAS THE BEST EVER. He was super sweet and so so knowledgeable. He sang songs and showed us the magic of Killarney.

Response from Host, Feb 2025

I am glad you enjoyed the two hour walk in Killarney National Park with James. He loves to sing the mountains, lakes, and woods inspire him. Even the deer are attracted to his voice so he might hire them as a backing group. Slán go fóill (bye a while), and thanks for the great review.

Guided walk and fun

Alexandra_L, Dec 2024
Great walk through the national park and a wonderful guide! Richard was an excellent guide. Thank you!

Response from Host, Dec 2024

Glad you enjoyed the two hour guided walk at 11am, because i certainly did. I have walked in this area all my life, and its always enjoyable. Safe journey home, and happy New Year. Slán go fóill (bye a while).

Dea Shampla

Sean_G, Dec 2024
We had a great time with Richard and spoke Irish for most of our walk. We learnt a lot about Killarney and we both reinvigorated our Irish over the 2+ hours and got some great pictures. Ana mhaith ar fad! Maith an fear!

Response from Host, Dec 2024

Daidí na Nollag Santa gave us an early Christmas present with some bright sunshine for the duration of the walk. It was great to walk, and talk with you especially in the Irish language which i love. Looking forward to meeting you sometime in the future, and we can walk a different route. Go dtí sin tóg bog é, agus Nollaig Shona daoibh.

Beyond expectations!

Ken_G, Nov 2024
Richard was an amazing tour guide. He knew so much of the history of the park. We walked through out the park meeting many of his local acquaintances, it was the best. He sang for us a Johnny Cash song about Ireland and his voice was amazing. We highly recommend this tour. Richard was a great ambassador for Ireland!

Response from Host, Nov 2024

It was a pleasure to walk with you both as you were so positive about what our country has to offer the holidaymaker. Just great to see you enjoying ourselves, and the weather was kind to us. I like the song written by Johnny Cash on the plane home from Ireland back in 1959. Its called Forty Shades of Green but some people think he missed out on a few. Thanks for walking with me. Slán go fóill (bye a while).

1 hour waiting 1 hour of a nice tour.

William_C, Sep 2024
The guide was excellent. Told great stories and played several traditional Irish instruments. The owner of the tour company, Richard, seems a bit disorganized and not great at communicating. It unfortunately caused us to get only a one hour tour, pretty much on a paved trail in Killarney National park. Which we could have done on our own. The park is beautiful and is a don't miss.

Response from Host, Sep 2024

Sorry that you didnt get full value from the guided walk. I had an assistant guide in place at 11am at the meeting point with other walkers so i dont understand how you didnt see him. He left then with the other walkers, and you phoned me at 11.38 to ask where is the guide ? Its a pity you didnt phone earlier before the others had gone too far. In any case he returned to meet you and would have extended the walk if desired. If you are around this way again i can give you a free guided walk. Slán go fóill (bye a while)

Beautiful walk in the park

Ami, Aug 2024
I had a lovely time walking through the park learning bits about plants, animals, and the town. Guide was very friendly and seemed to know everyone we passed!

Response from Host, Aug 2024

It was lovely to meet you, and show you some of my favourite places in Killarney National Park. The sun was shining and that made it even better. Thanks for walking with me. Slán go fóill (bye a while)

A hidden gem

Hanna_K, Jul 2024
I booked this tour spontaneously and didn't have very high expectations, but it turned out to be an amazing experience thanks to our guide Mike! He was just fantastic - super friendly and knowledgeable, and a true local. There was only one other person in the group (a female solo-traveler just like me), so it almost seemed like a private tour. Mike took "off the beaten path" quite literally and we saw some places that I never would've discovered on my own. It was by far the best walking tour I've ever done!

Response from Host, Jul 2024

Thanks for walking with Mike who certainly knows his stuff, and has a very friendly nature he loves to show people his beloved Killarney National Park. We always try and show people places off the beaten path close to the shores of Loch Léin where the deer like to roam. Thanks for the great review, and maybe you can return soon. Slán go fóill (bye a while).

Eating wild herbs, while listening to Irish legends and landscape knowledge.

Rose_d, May 2024
It was a tiny group of people. I could share much more, and more awesome pictures, but this photo underlines the lively atmosphere that the guide managed to create: many stories, both natural and legendary, and all laced with loads of humor. Below is one of his stories:______________ This memorial is in honor of the monk who elevated HYPERSOMNIA to an art: He was tired and took a rest under this tree. He woke up and walked back to his abbey where, strangely enough, no one seemed to know him. When they searched the name book they found him: He was once known, but inexplicably disappeared... two hundred years earlier!

Response from Host, Jul 2024

Yes thats a true story about the monk Bro. Mac Cudda who followed a bird from the island in the middle of Loch Léin. When he returned to the monastery he discovered that two hundred years had elapsed. This is just one of the legends of Killarney. Slan go fóill (bye a while).

Killarney National Park

Meredith_G, Nov 2023
Enjoyed our stroll through the park with Richard. He was very friendly and knowledgable about the park and town. Very easy to find our starting point.

Disappointed

James_S, Jul 2023
We could not locate the meeting point and I made a call and got voicemail. Left a message and it was not answered.

Response from Host, Jul 2023

i am very sorry to hear you could not locate the meeting point as its opposite the best landmark in the area St.Marys Cathedral. I was outside oSheas Funeral Home the meeting point at 11am, and my phone never rang, around that time or no missed call. its a pity that you didnt ask somebody nearby on the street or in your accomodation.

Excellent tour

Tana_T, Jul 2023
Excellent tour. He was very knowledgeable about the history of the area and current issues with the park. Thanks Mike!

Response from Host, Jul 2023

Yes Mike is very passionate about Killarney National Park, and the area in general. Not sure if he ever kissed the Blarney Stone but he dosnt need to as he has a warm, and friendly personality. So i am very happy to call on him when i cant do the walk myself. Thanks for the great review. Slán go fóill (bye a while).

Walking with Richard through his backyard, Killarney National park.

Cheryl_D, May 2023
We enjoyed a small group tour of Killarney National Park today. The first national park in Ireland, Killarney is famed for its wildly scenic landscapes, its herd of red deer, and its medieval castle. We were able to see all these beautiful sights and learn about Killarney’s history from our guide, Richard. Anthony even saw an adjacent golf course! It was one of our best Ireland experiences! Highly recommend!

Response from Host, May 2023

I love the Mayflower tree with all its luxuriant white flowers at this time of the year in the Irish countryside. In the Irish language its called An Sceach Gheal (the bright bush), and was planted as a natural boundary hedge. Cows didnt mess with its sharp thorns. Thanks for walking with me, and please return to discover more of our National Park. Slán go fóill (bye a while).

A unique view of Ireland

Kathleen_M, May 2023
We had the opportunity to see parts of the park that we would not have been able to see on a bus tour. Richard and Nial shared a lot of information about the flora and lakes as well as personal experiences. I was hoping to see Torq waterfall but the whole trip was a really enjoyable experience and we met some wonderful people in the group of 8 people.

Response from Host, May 2023

It's our passion and pleasure to share some of the places we love in Killarney National Park. Thanks for walking with us, and I hope you return as there is a lot more to see. Slán go fóill (bye a while).

Lovely walk

Anna_G, Oct 2022
Lovely 2 hr walk with our guide James O'Connor. He was very interesting with his stories. When you pay in face you will save 3£ ;-)

Response from Host, Oct 2022

Delighted you enjoyed the walk so much with James who has a great love of the outdoors particularly Killarney National Park. He is an expert on trees, and wildflowers, and will usually sing a song or two as he walks around Loch Léin as well. Thanks for your great review. Slán go fóill (bye a while).

Wonderful guided walk! Thanks

Nancy_K, Sep 2022
Richard was a wonderful guide to have while exploring Killarney National Park. Having grown up next to the park, Richard was knowledgeable of the history, vegetation and special spots within the park, and he had some wonderful memories to share (he was also a keen photographer!). I cannot imagine exploring the park any other way and would highly recommend this tour!

Response from Host, Sep 2022

Yes i grew up just across the road from Killarney National Park, and i developed a great interest in exploring the area from a young age. We walked in the woods, picked blackberries, sweet chestnuts, mushrooms, swam in Loch Léin,and were delighted to see wildlife like red deer. Thanks for walking with me and giving me a great review. Slán go fóill (bye a while).

Great off the beaten path guided walk

amandafollett, Aug 2022
Wonderful walk through the Killarney National Park. Definitely saw views that I wouldn’t have seen alone - would highly recommend!

Response from Host, Aug 2022

It was very nice to walk with you, and show you some of my favourite places virtually in my back garden. That's what I call Killarney National Park because I was born nearby, and spent my youth exploring the area around Loch Léin. Lots more to see so I hope you get to visit us again. Slán go fóill (bye a while).

Nice nature break

Rosemary_F, Jul 2022
I recommend this tour for anyone wanting a quick way to experience Killarney National Park. It does not go to the places named on a bus tour, but for nature itself and some of the history, it is perfect. Just a stone wall separates it from the starting point in the city, but once inside, it is quiet and beautiful. Mike was a great guide. He told us about the buildings and history of the park and we saw the lakes at a distance and many deer up close. Highly recommended for nature lovers.

Response from Host, Jul 2022

I am glad you got to see the deer up close not too far away from the town centre not just the sika but also the native red deer roam here. Some of the best places are off the beaten path close to the lake, and the deer like these places as well. Thanks very much for walking with us, and for the great review. Enjoy your travels. Slán go fóill (bye a while).

Wonderful Walk

Laura_C, Mar 2022
We had the best time walking with Richard. He is so friendly and kind. He showed us trails we would have not known about. We saw wildlife and beautiful views. We also sang a bit of Rocky Top straight from Tennessee to the Irish mountains. Highly recommend. Thank you for a lovely time.

Response from Host, Mar 2022

it was lovely to meet you both, and the nice Spring sunshine helped as we walked around the shores of Loch Léin. The deer seemed to enjoy the improved weather as well, and the birds sang for us as well. I hope you continue to have an enjoyable tour around ireland, and come back this way sometime soon. Slán go fóill (bye a while).

To explore Killarney,...

Anila_K, Oct 2021
To explore Killarney, this is one of the best choice. Richard brought us around the park, explained everything in detail. The 2hr walk was woryh and enjoyed the nature's beautiful sceneries.

Response from Host, Oct 2021

It was raining when we met at 11am which was a bit disapointing but as often happens the sun came out a few minutes later, and stayed with us. I was glad to show you some of the places i love in Killarney National Park which i refer to as my back garden, as i was born just a short distance away. Thanks for walking with me, and for writing a great review. I hope you enjoy the rest of your time in Killarney. Slán go fóill (bye a while).
