Itinerary

Depart your Kandy hotel by private, air-conditioned vehicle with your driver-guide, and travel north to the Euphoria Spice and Herbal Gardens in Matale.

Take a guided walk around the shady gardens, seeing how the spices and herbs used in local cuisine and cosmetics are grown. Learn how the ingredients are used and enjoy the chance to try and buy (own expense) some of your favorites.

After about 1.5 hours here, visit Kandy’s Jayamali Batik Factory, a workshop where artisans produce beautiful batik prints. Watch the detailed batik-making process and admire the vibrant results. Then, perhaps purchase (own expense) some printed tableware, clothes, or soft furnishings.

After lunch (own expense) at a restaurant of your choice — your guide can recommend eateries around your budget like The Cinnamon Citadel, Mahaveli Reach, or Helga’s Folly — continue to a traditional woodcarving center.

See the woodworkers whittle decorative items from native woods, and if you wish, buy some souvenirs (own expense).

Afterward, visit the Tiesh Gem Museum, a showcase for Sri Lanka’s natural gemstones. Learn about the local mining and gem-crafting process, and perhaps buy (own expense) cut gems or gem-studded jewelry from the shop.

Your tour then concludes with a hotel drop-off.
