My family of 14, from kids to grandparents, all said this was the highlight of our trip to Sri Lanka. We learned so much about Sri Lankan food, cooked many delicious dishes and all loved the incredible food. The hospitality of the host family was very special. They were always helpful, kind and accommodating and even set up a surprise new year’s eve party for us after our meal. We wholeheartedly recommend this to anyone visiting Kandy who is looking for a very special, memorable experience.

Great experience! Especially loved the market tour at the beginning, the hands on cooking class and seeing a local village. Only lost 1 star because we weren't told we had to find our own way home (and we were 30mins out of Kandy in a village, where Uber didn't go, so had to pay for multiple tuk tuks despite us having a driver we could have organised if we had known)

Attended this cooking class during our stay in Kandy and loved it. The experience was fun, authentic, and hands-on, starting with a visit to the local market before cooking our chosen dishes in a traditional village kitchen. Our host was warm, welcoming, and knowledgeable, explaining each ingredient and its role in Sri Lankan cuisine. Highly recommend for anyone visiting Kandy — a memorable experience!

It was a very special cooking class, starting with a visit to the market and buying what we were going to prepare. We had lots of interesting tips as we went around the market stands, making it a very lively event. But then, the cooking class was phenomenal, ending up making 7 different dishes and learning other tricks (e.g., how to crack a coconut, how to make coco milk, etc.). Needless to say that the dinner with our prepared dishes was fantastic and ended up making new acquaintances with the rest of the group. Definitely, not to miss when visiting Kandy.

We were picked up from our hotel and taken to the Kandy market, where we were introduced to a variety of local spices and vegetables, which we purchased for the cooking class. We then continued to the village, where we were welcomed with tea before beginning the lesson.
With the guidance of our instructors, we prepared rice, six different curries, and fried papadam. Every dish was delicious and not too spicy. We also learned how to make two different types of coconut milk, and the instructors even prepared pancakes for dessert.
Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed the cooking class and found it to be excellent value for the price.

We enjoyed our cooking class very much and the recipes and food we cooked were really good and tasty. Also we liked that we went to the local market before and were able to chose what curries we wanted to cook and got the special vegetables and spices explained. We can highly recommend the class 😊

What a brilliant experience! From visiting the market to learn about and pick out fresh produce to getting hands on in the kitchen preparing amazing food. I learnt so much and really enjoyed the wonderful setting to cook in! Shyama is an excellent teacher. As a solo traveller I felt instantly welcomed and engaged with a group of like minded people all there to learn and experience. Would 100% recommend!

It was one of the best cooking classes I have ever done. We went first to the market to buy some ingredients and then they took me to their beautiful house in the countryside. We cooked 8 delicious dishes. 100% recommend it.

It is one of the best experience I did in Sri Lanka. I have no words to say how lovely it was. The family brings you in their beautiful house, in a luxuriant forest. Then you cook different types of curry. I also did the market tour before and it was very worth it, with explanations on different vegetables. It also allows to go talking with the people selling the products and taking pictures. The family was so so so nice and explaining every thing very well, asking about preferences, taking pictures if needed and answering all my questions. I highly recommend it, it was just simply amazing. It will be the highlight of your Sri Lanka Stay !

We had a truly memorable experience with Shyama and her husband. The market visit was great to start with to gather the really fresh ingredients. The traditional kitchen next to their house is a lovely venue. After tea and intros we set about cooking the numerous curries we had chosen. We used all the traditional methods and the recipes were easy enough to follow under Shyama's helpful instruction. After a couple of hours we had prepared about 11 lovely varied dishes. We then had the best lunch and nearly finished it all! We each had our favourite dish; Sambal, special aubergine curry and chicken curry. Delicious pancakes with caramel coconut were cooked to finish us off.
The whole experience was really great and the food amazing. They are lovely people too. Thank you.

Amazing experience! Nested in the tropical forest, the kitchen is a triumph of colors and the lesson was incredibly informative... and tasty! I thought we tried everything in Sri Lanka, but the 5 curries of our own making were simply the most tasty dishes in the whole holiday! Highly recommended

The Kandy Cooking Experience was exceptional in every way. There was superb communication right from the start and a tuktuk arrived promptly to collect us and take us to the village where we recived a very warm welcome in a beautiful setting of an authentic outdoor kitchen. All the recipes were painstakingly explained to us and we were ready participants in making our sumptuous meal. There was a lot of learning of spices and herbs and a lot of laughter with two beautiful ladies keen to teach us some of their culinary skills.It was a real hands on cooking lesson with all our questions answered and we truly enjoyed the product of our efforts.I cannot recommend this experience highly enough.Book it now!

We loved this amazing cooking experience with Shyama! Shyama was friendly and knowledgable and made us feel at home in her house. We got to choose our ingredients and make many different dishes afterwards. It was a wonderful evening and we left stuffed!

My mother and I attended the cooking class together, and we had a lot of fun. A driver picked us up at our hotel, and drove us approx 10 km out of the city to the village. Note that you have to pay for the return. It was really nice to see a traditional clay house. We learned new ways of cooking in Sri Lankan style, and also about spices, a variation of vegetables and how to make coconut milk. The rice and curry were really good. I also have celiac disease and therefore cannot eat gluten. There wasn’t any gluten free options, but they just removed some ingredients (soy sauce, mustard, papadam and pancakes). It was a great, authentic experience and we could recommend it.
